Thank you. Dermot Dempsey et al did NOT tell me this, nor have I ever read this in the Reference Manual, rather I just observed that this is the consistent case since I started using Chief back in Version Four (no X4 but 4). DJP

Chief Architect software is designed to match fascia heights by default but when you have adjoining roof planes at different pitches then the lower pitched roof plane's eave must be extended to match that preprogrammed setting when building auto roofs. When this occurs one then has to manually make the shed roof match the adjacent higher pitched roof fascia tops match but maintain the uniform default pitch. I have seen this countless times over the years and is a bit annoying but IS understandable when dealing with an automatic software tool. DJP

It the "Landing" is a Deck Room then Yes. If you are speaking of a stair landing or Balcony then NO, you must manually add them. DJP

Also if you have imported any PDF, .dwg or dxf files they tend to bloat a plan's size. Also the use of symbols imported from 3D warehouse can be problematic in terms of 3D faces and they also can add weight to the plan file. You purge unused material associations by opening plan materials dialog and then select a material that does not have a check mark by it and then press the "Purge" button which then removes any material associations in the plan but leaves all actively used plan files. CAD blocks are usually stored in "CAD - CAD Block Management - CAD Details. This is OK to do IF you have not also sent some of those details to your layout plan- deleting them form CAD Detail management will remove them from layout as well. DJP

Can a Polyline Solid and Steps Show on Both Floors?
DavidJPotter replied to ClarkeThrasher's topic in General Q & A
Turn on the "Reference Display" on the floor where the stairs are to be annotated in plan view. Draw a dotted polyline where the steps are (whether above or below) to show that they exist in plan view. In other words you have then show in 3D on the First Floor and only in 2D on the foundation level plan view. DJP -
I manually save every few seconds as I work. Since I lost 12 hours of work back in 1999, I have adopted manually saving AND being extremely careful of settings, procedures and NO loose ends as I work. I have not had a reoccurrence since 1999. DJP

I have both X4 and X12 on my PC and archived plans. X4 Plan files open just fine in X12 without anything else. DJP

Besides the building world do you use Chief for anything else?
DavidJPotter replied to ShaneK's topic in General Q & A
My best friend owns a Pool company. I did the attached image in old X1 for a brochure he published. DJP -

Stop Using Paint Tool!!!!! Especially the newbies!!!
DavidJPotter replied to ShaneK's topic in General Q & A
Any end-users should take the time and personal responsibility to study and practice with their tools before they inflict their use on a plan file. The Materials tools are no different AND that is again why Windows has an "UNDO" command when one screws up. DJP -
Not me. DJP

Currently, legally licensed users of Chief cannot legally sell a hardware lock to another as that is part of their license holding contract with Chief Inc. If they sell you the hardware lock, they are also selling you their right to use ANY version of Chief Architect Premier. Your best shot is to communicate to Chief Architect Customer Service to perhaps replace your broken or lost hardware lock. Find out what is actually legal and within existing agreements and laws. DJP

Michael Gia (above) answered as I would have, that is what custom materials are for. DJP

Are you currently working with cloud memory? is it slow?
DavidJPotter replied to wkshank's topic in General Q & A
The slowness comes when you open and from time to time save the plan file. If you save to your local Solid State Drive on your computer, the resultant lag is at its minimum. If you have a legacy, non-digital hard drive, the lag increases. If you are saving to cloud storage then the lag is dependant upon one's internet speed and through-put at any given moment. For greatest efficiency, I use my onboard SSD hard drive for moment to moment work and only use the Cloud as a backup, redundant way of protecting my files after the fact. DJP -
Control Panel. In my case "red cursor" I actually imported that image and set it as my default. DJP

I downloaded your shared file and then using the "File - Import -3D Symbol" dialog, the file imported just fine but it is not just a chair but the symbol contains a chair AND a footstool DJP

A key is the same thing as selling one's license (permission to use Chief Architect Premier). If your license is legal you should contact Chief Architect Sales or Customer Service for help and advice. My X10 is not set up for a software key like a gongle, in fact I believe Chief stopped using physical software keys many versions ago, so there is something fishey about your request at the get-go. There is NOTHING negative in Mick's post. Whoever marked it with the red down arrow is being merely suppressive. I know of NO ONE more helpful and knowledgeable on this forum, than KBird or Mick, knock that off, please! DJP
