Plan files! If you need to re-position a view in layout, you would also need to remember to move all the callouts at the same time. This creates an unnecessary opportunity for error.

I would never. Never ever ever.

If I had to model this, I'd create a cad polyline profile of the chimney in elevation view. I'd use this cad polyline as a snapping guide to adjust the wall polyline. I'd also replicate the polyline twice and convert it to a 3d molding polyline to apply the outside and inside corner trim. And, I would be using a 3d solid for the sloped portions, again using my cad polyline as a snapping guide. All very fast and easy to do. Much quicker than dealing with the variety of settings in various dialogs.

I did have to change the callout labels on over a hundred notes. That takes time my friend!

An optional solution to this spacing is to use a Rectangle as the text note callout.

The spacing is increased in the longer schedule because the callouts are larger for numbers with 2 digits. Spacing is based on the largest symbol shown. Make over a hundred notes to see what's happening.

I was looking for a silhouette of a person and noticed this fellow from the Chief library. It seems that 'Man Looking Right' is overdue for a visit to the doctor. I suspect an advanced case of testicular cancer. Yikes! Can't use this in a plan... Perhaps the symbol should be renamed to 'Man Looking Wrong'?!

Depending on ones purposes there are multiple ways to skin this cat; I used 6 cabinets to model it in just about 5 minutes (not bragging). 2 cabinets for the sinks, 3 cabinets for the...cabinets and 1 for the base. I did use a saved vanity which already had the right type of sink.

Ditto. I spend very little time on layout. A bit of layout box shuffling is all I do there so if I need to refer to my time log, I use the plan file and a reasonable amount of rounding...never rounding down of course.

A window will not show up in 2 different floors. In order to get this to display on both floor plans you can use a reference display with a customized layer set, you can overlay a cropped layout box, or use some CAD and Text tools to indicate the location. Either way, some manual manipulation is required.

Hi Michael, 2 things that should help you out. 1. Adjust the roof opening polyline. I've highlighted the correction on just one side so you'll need to do this on both side. 2. Double click the main roof plane and go to the Structure Tab. Uncheck Use Room Ceiling Finish.

Can you post that plan file? You'll have an appropriate answer to your issue in no time!

That is correct. A simple way for you to examine this is to send a plan view to layout. Perhaps crop the view to show just a small portion. Copy the view just beside and set a different scale factor. Zoom in and visually review the line weights. Toggle line weight scaling to see the effect.

Kevin, it's also very important that the line weight scale is the same in layout as it is in plan view, section / elevation view, and cad details.

In layout, 1:1 will keep the paper the correct size. You probably want that...:) In plan view, set it up using the most frequently used scale factor for plan views.

The drawing sheet won't change automatically based on layout, and I don't think there would really be a benefit. You can of course use some CAD boxes / polylines as a guide for various sheet sizes, however the real benefit of adjusting the sheet, and more importantly, the scale, is proper line weight control and display. That being said, we are already able to maintain consistent line weights in layout, even when sending plan views to layout at varying scales. All we need to do is remember to ensure "Use Layout Line Scaling" is checked, and to make sure all our layer sets used in plan views have our desired line weights set consistently.

Double click a wall (or select all walls), go to Structure>Framing> uncheck Insert Floor Framing Below

You can edit the framing or draw it yourself from scratch. Currently, this cannot be edited as a default, nor can it be specified in any of Chief's settings.

In layout, turn on the layer for layout boxes. Then review every page looking for empty layout boxes or boxes with seemingly 'random' drawings. Relink them or delete them.
