  1. Let me ask you this, why call it a garage. Why not call it a bedroom and drop down 6". IOW, what is the difference between a bedroom and a garage each dropped down 6"? Maybe the fact that the garage will not have a finish floor yet the bedroom will. Quick answer to your question, yes, what you suggested should work.
  2. I know, sounds dumb now. There is or was a point. I assume you know that joists break over a bearing beam, and are continuous over non bearing beam, so I am assuming I ran into a situation where I wanted that option for a floor joist. But I cannot think of an example now.
  3. Here is a vid on a method. Really good vid, worth watching. Note at beginning of vid, the drywall at ceiling is missing.... bug? Maybe. I do not know how to fix that. Essentially I added an additional floor level without messing around with aCAD's floor system. http://youtu.be/vZhtcrdMz9Q
  4. Here is a vid showing the two methods of finding a particular plan file in layout. http://youtu.be/XkXgR3HmFqE
  5. A pass thru window for what at top of what?
  6. That is the solution, I will do a vid when I have time.
  7. How about a wall pulled down in elevation, stick a door in it, and then build the floor platform/shelf out of a flat roof plane.
  8. Yeah, how about a pony wall with the top half of wall being defined as a material that is invisible.
  9. In your picture you have PRINT IN COLOR checked. Uncheck it. And then, go to PREFERENCES<APPEARANCE<DISPLAY<COLOR OFF IS< and check BLACK & WHITE, do not check GRAYSCALE. Let me know if this works, I am curious...... BTW, if this works, this is the Perry Solution that I learned from him a while back. That guy is pretty smart.
  10. ain't that interesting, it works with the word "reverenced" Thanks for the help Joe. I think Glenn's solution is very very quick and easy.
  11. Got it, thanks Joe, you forgot to tell me to check the EVALUATE BOX. So it took awhile to learn how to do this. But I did. It would be easier if CA set it up so us nitwits could get this information without having to learn Ruby.
  12. The layer linked macro I received from you..... I do not think this is what you meant to send. { "Version": 2, "UserDefinedMacro": { "Name": "layout_linked_plan_file", "Value": "begin\n owner.referenced_full_filename\nrescue\n referenced.referenced_full_filename\nend", "ShouldEval": true, "Context": "none" } }
  13. This thread is a perfect example of why I do videos. I have posted 9 times this morning and I still do not know how to do it. A video tends to show the method used and if there is a problem, the problem pops up. Another reason I do vids, I do not have to go back and forth answering questions on how to do something. easy peasy, it saves time for everybody.
  14. which macro did you use Joe? I am in the middle of a GTM so I am having a difficult time deleting all the options until I find the correct one.
  15. I would recommend Michael Blake contact David Potter, he probably knows more about HOME DESIGNER PRO than anybody else. And quite frankly, I think GOTOMEETING can be more time efficient than everybody meeting in an office.
  16. I give up. I have not needed it yet, I hope I never need it. You are on your own Scott Menard.
  17. If I knew how to do it, I would do a quick vid so everybody could understand how to do it an we would not be going around in circles.
  18. Nope, I still can't follow. Even if I could follow, I do not want to be a programmer. So Dermot, Joe and Glenn (some of the greatest minds of the program) have solutions and I still can't figure it out.
  19. I am trying but I do not follow this. I do not understand where your dbx came from. File name of what in what title bar of what dbx? I want to select a layout box in layout and identify from which plan file this came from. Is that what you did?
  20. From the different solutions that have been posted in this thread, I still do not see an easy solution. It seems like a layer in the layout , a layer that could be turned on, and this layer would have text in each layout box that would identify from which plan file the layout box came from, would be helpful. As I said earlier, this is not a huge issue for me, but I do understand how a means of identifying the plan file source of a particular layout box could be useful in some situations.
  21. I could not follow your instructions. Can you do a quick vid?
