  1. That statement is probably the most understated statement I have read in the past 18 months. I agree, I bet if we got the CA team in a locked room, I would bet we could ask them to model certain scenarios that we face many times, and they would not have a clue...... just guessing, but I bet that is so. And how anybody would be able to model auto is a complete mystery to me........
  2. Richard, this is such a great question. I am not sure if I have my head wrapped around it either. I do not think your question is super clear...... "around when it is better to use the "Floor supplied by foundation room below" vs. just doing a lowered slab with stem walls on the same level. I have never really figured out why garages, for example, use this concept." .... but I think it is a super question. I am working on a couple of projects right now that are a little bit technically challenging, and I am hoping to hook up with The Great Glenn Woodward in the next day or so to get his take on the situation. When I get a better grasp on an answer for you, I will share what I have learned. From my point of view..... the answer is like trying to nail down a blob of mercury, you can press down on it, but it squirts away.... I cannot fully explain what works, what does not work and what and why is the best approach to take. Thanks for the post.
  3. I bet that is defined as a RAILING WALL
  4. Hey guys, a request....... Would you guys mind posting images of some of your floor plan presentation drawings. I am talking about a top down view of a floor plan, probably using the cross section slider to show door openings and windows. I do not do these top down floor plan presentation drawings but I have a feeling with a new client of mine, I may need to be required to do them. I do not care if they are watercolor or paint or technical illustration, whatever you guys think is the best way to present a floor plan..... with or without color..... with or without shadows........ with or with textures....... whatever you guys think is the best way to show a floor plan. In the past some of you guys have posted some really neat stuff.... I would like to see them again. Also, if you have time, maybe make a comment or two on how CA may improve your ability to enhance the presentation plans. Maybe you want to add text to these plans or dimensions.... how do you do it now and how may CA improve their program to help you with the presentation. CA is working on Vx8, so any comments you may have may not get in the new version, but any recommendation you may make might make it in vx9. Thanks for your time on this, I really appreciate the effort.
  5. Yep, I will be looking forward to the Big Bear UGM next year at Joey's place.
  6. You are the best JB, and thank you Mr. Curmudgeon for further clarifying the issue. This is a very good stainless steel material for me. I have been using it a long time. I hope that with one of the plans, you can get the material for your own use. If not, let me know. One further note, if the OP had posted his plans initially, he probably would of received an answer even quicker. Dang newbies! Thanks guys for the help.
  7. That material has always been shiny for me, always, but in bad plan it is not shiny. My request is, can anybody make that material shiny in bad plan? Put all the lights in you want and used any camera. My contention is you will not be able to make material shiny in bad plan, and I do not know why not.
  8. I have been using this material forever and the camera does not matter and the number of lights do not matter as long as there is at least one light. JB'a material is flat, Jon's material I do not see but he says both materials look the same on his plan, Larry's picture is not helpful to me because he is looking at the material in the same plan. The point I am making is the material looks different in both plans Larry.
  9. If that is the case, if you open plan with dull material, you should be able to manipulate lights so they are not dull.
  10. This is the kind of crap that frustrates me and must frustrate others. Why do I end up spending 30 minutes trying to figure out the problem. Below is a pic, the refrigerators are the same yet they look different.
  11. Okay guy, here are two plans with the same refrigerator yet the materials look different in render/normal mode. Can you explain why? BBB SS IS GOOD 2.plan.zip BBB SS NOT GOOD.plan.zip
  12. JB, camera angle will not matter, DG, I will post the plans when I have a time, I have an appt. in a minute...... tried to set up plans and I am getting inconsisitent results......
  13. See pic, note the stainless steel appliances. I have two different files open but I am using the same appliances in each plan yet they look different depending on the plan. Is there some kind of legacy setting that one plan might have and the other does not. Again, they are the same exact appliances with the same exact material yet they look different in render view.
  14. Just post the plan with what you are working with and somebody will help you.
  15. This will probably not work because the symbol she is using is probably for base cabinets..... I have seen this before.
  16. This probably will not work because the origin will probably be in the incorrect location.
  17. Wall with arched top..... Put a curved roof on top that matches the arch you want. Wall will stop at arched roof. Select top right corner of wall and drag down 6". Now grab same corner and drag up 6". Delete roof, done..... Wall with arched top will remain as is.
  18. Jon, you did not miss anything. I have no clue how to work with the sketchup terrain.
  19. You are probably not missing anything.... but as they say, model it as they would build it.
  20. A wild guess...... I believe I can have several schedules for windows, a schedule for windows on first floor and another schedule for windows on second floor. Using that logic, I wonder if you can put the "plants/plan notes" on the 14th floor and the PLANT on the ground floor. Have not checked, just a guess.
  21. Possible so, I used the foam domed ceiling in my own bathroom..... an off the shelf dome would not work.... the profile etc was to match the tub in the bathroom therefore it had to be custom. Cost about 5000.00. I also worked on a project where we had a dome over a piano in a piano room, again we used the foam that was custom shaped... do not remember the cost of that one.
  22. Great question. I think the way this will be built is a hole is framed. And then the builder will have a FOAM dome that he will mount in there. So...... you need to think about using SOLIDS...... DO NOT USE PSOLIDS. Form a half dome SOLID and put that in a square SOLID (the square solid is bigger), and then subtract the half dome SOLID from the cube SOLID, you will end up with a CUBE that has the dome carved out of it.
  23. Number the doors and windows individually via the labels. Put the door and window schedule in a cad detail and put it where ever you want it... IOW , do not put schedule in plan but put it in a cad detail.
  24. Can you eliminate any outdoor light so I do not see the green grass?
