  1. report: in preferences / render/ DBX ...turned off "hardware edge smoothing" = no luck
  2. My buddy builds a house, uses a camera view and there is not light..... the walls are black, see picture. He saves plan, sends it to me, I look at it and the walls are not black, they look as they should. He tries with another OOB plan, same problem. He tries same thing on his second computer, same problem (both computers are using the same CA license). Why is he seeing black walls. It could not be a default setting because I am not seeing problem, I do not think it could be a preference setting because I do not know of a preference setting that would cause this. It is not a plan setting because it also occurs with oob plans. It happens on his two computers, not my computer, does anybody have an idea to the cause? Could it be both of his computers are screwed up? Plan and pics attached. Black wall pic is render, blue wall pic is vector Scott's black render.plan
  3. Bill, I had to give you a negative point for that suggestion..... but I bet if you could, you would of given yourself a negative point.
  4. I am wondering if it would of been faster to manually enter dimensions in lieu of asking the question, and big hugs to DJP....oops, maybe I need some hugs too.
  5. oops, I was not being smart because I did not acknowledge the request, I agree there should be a find and replace text tool, but even more powerful would be adapting the Perry Method.... much more control.
  6. Listen to Perry.... he is the maestro for this..... macros for General notes .... in fact macros for just about every note..... I love Perry's method.......
  7. I think you missed the point. He wants the rafters to frame perpendicular to the roof slope, not parallel. The answer....... build roof, define rafters as spanning 3568' o.c., now put in manual rafters....... if you rebuild framing, they should remain.
  8. Lots of times, I think it has been user error every time.
  9. UGM's are big parties with the pretense of learning something. Joey, all we want to do is to take a 2 night vacation with some on line friends in your cabin, go fishing in your boat and say nasty things about our friends at headquarters. Did you say you were going to go to the UGM this year? They are fun and I always learn a thing or two and I think this one will be the best UGM yet.
  10. Sorry Shane, apples and oranges........ this leads me to believe you are not up to snuff with the mono slab footings......... apples and oranges my friend.....
  11. If you don't get the outside decks on, I ain't coming.......... oh heck, maybe I will come anyway. This could be fun Joey. I hope you are serious about hosting something next year. By the time you put on the Big Bear UGM, X8 may be out and there might be a lot of stuff to share and talk about.
  12. errr, my version of ver 10 did not have it. You must of received a special version.
  13. Of course you would not of used that option in version 2 because it was not available until probably X3 or x4.
  14. Thanks Larry, now I understand. Richard, are you okay now?
  15. That statement is probably the most understated statement I have read in the past 18 months. I agree, I bet if we got the CA team in a locked room, I would bet we could ask them to model certain scenarios that we face many times, and they would not have a clue...... just guessing, but I bet that is so. And how anybody would be able to model auto is a complete mystery to me........
  16. Richard, this is such a great question. I am not sure if I have my head wrapped around it either. I do not think your question is super clear...... "around when it is better to use the "Floor supplied by foundation room below" vs. just doing a lowered slab with stem walls on the same level. I have never really figured out why garages, for example, use this concept." .... but I think it is a super question. I am working on a couple of projects right now that are a little bit technically challenging, and I am hoping to hook up with The Great Glenn Woodward in the next day or so to get his take on the situation. When I get a better grasp on an answer for you, I will share what I have learned. From my point of view..... the answer is like trying to nail down a blob of mercury, you can press down on it, but it squirts away.... I cannot fully explain what works, what does not work and what and why is the best approach to take. Thanks for the post.
  17. I bet that is defined as a RAILING WALL
  18. Hey guys, a request....... Would you guys mind posting images of some of your floor plan presentation drawings. I am talking about a top down view of a floor plan, probably using the cross section slider to show door openings and windows. I do not do these top down floor plan presentation drawings but I have a feeling with a new client of mine, I may need to be required to do them. I do not care if they are watercolor or paint or technical illustration, whatever you guys think is the best way to present a floor plan..... with or without color..... with or without shadows........ with or with textures....... whatever you guys think is the best way to show a floor plan. In the past some of you guys have posted some really neat stuff.... I would like to see them again. Also, if you have time, maybe make a comment or two on how CA may improve your ability to enhance the presentation plans. Maybe you want to add text to these plans or dimensions.... how do you do it now and how may CA improve their program to help you with the presentation. CA is working on Vx8, so any comments you may have may not get in the new version, but any recommendation you may make might make it in vx9. Thanks for your time on this, I really appreciate the effort.
  19. Yep, I will be looking forward to the Big Bear UGM next year at Joey's place.
  20. You are the best JB, and thank you Mr. Curmudgeon for further clarifying the issue. This is a very good stainless steel material for me. I have been using it a long time. I hope that with one of the plans, you can get the material for your own use. If not, let me know. One further note, if the OP had posted his plans initially, he probably would of received an answer even quicker. Dang newbies! Thanks guys for the help.
  21. That material has always been shiny for me, always, but in bad plan it is not shiny. My request is, can anybody make that material shiny in bad plan? Put all the lights in you want and used any camera. My contention is you will not be able to make material shiny in bad plan, and I do not know why not.
  22. I have been using this material forever and the camera does not matter and the number of lights do not matter as long as there is at least one light. JB'a material is flat, Jon's material I do not see but he says both materials look the same on his plan, Larry's picture is not helpful to me because he is looking at the material in the same plan. The point I am making is the material looks different in both plans Larry.
  23. If that is the case, if you open plan with dull material, you should be able to manipulate lights so they are not dull.
  24. This is the kind of crap that frustrates me and must frustrate others. Why do I end up spending 30 minutes trying to figure out the problem. Below is a pic, the refrigerators are the same yet they look different.
