  1. Yes, I still use the SAM. I know CA recommends not using the SAM. Today I had to set up new 24x36 borders and 30x42 borders for a new client. If I did to use the SAM, I would of needed to do this twice or I would of needed to set up in template layout before beginning. Both methods work well, inefficiency occurs if neither method is not used.
  2. this reminds me that we can now delete MOST layer sets.
  3. Does this make sense? I don't mean to say "does Tommy's statement make sense", I am asking if the wall changing makes any sense. BTW Tommy, thanks for this insight. Truly, why would anybody want the wall to change to an invisible interior 4 wall because I changed the ceiling height on one side of the room divider. This is the kind of stuff that must drive people nuts.
  4. If you think about it, and I did vids on this, if you have a separate ANNO SET in LAYOUT (I SAID LAYOUT), for each builder, and if you have a separate LAYER SET for each builder IN LAYOUT, and since ANNO SETS are king, select the correct anno set in layout, this will trigger the correct layer set that has the correct layers predefined for a particular builder. I have been doing it this way for years now, I think Perry does something similar. And this is another reason I use the SAM in lieu of template Method. The latest layout will have the correct anno sets etc. in layout for the newest builder.
  5. That is why he can afford to live in Carmel and we are stuck in the slums north of Tijuana.
  6. Good catch. My bad, I assumed it was a cmu wall with no finish.
  7. I heard this breakdown at one time..... 40% prelim 40% construction docs 19% Plan check and wrapping things up 1% on phone with wife.
  8. Play with your window ROUGH OPENING SIZES. You chose 1/2", if you look closely, you will see a gap between your window and your block wall... change the RO to zero and see how that changes the model. RO for block walls behave differently than RO's for framing.... at least I think so.
  9. Well, ain't I a pistol, check your ROUGH OPENING SIZES,.... ZERO out the rough opening and it should look better... I ain't saying it's perfect, but it is better....... Suppose the wall was wood framing and you had a 3" rough opening? Would you have the same problem... I don't think so because the EXTERIOR FINISH magically covers the gap.... at least I think so... bottom line, for your situation, change the ROUGH OPENING for the SGD.
  10. Got it. Yeah, if we start throwing in F.F., it does complicate things a bit. The stairs do not have a finished floor.
  11. Don't, turn on roof labels in the ref set...... the roof labels are separate from the roof planes. You say the roof labels are turned on in ref set, I do not believe it. Turn roof labels on in the ref set. Post plan if you can't figure it out.
  12. I cannot explain why you would of had that problem..... except maybe..... and I have not seen this.... but you can now define the top of the stairs as either at the top tread or at the second floor level.... thank goodness they finally put this in. BTW, I just tested on an old plan, I did not have problem..... so, I do not know what went wrong with your plan. Did Brian confirm he too experienced the problem"
  13. ........... The SAM or the Template method, essentially the same idea, the SAM gives you the latest and greatest, the Template method means you do not need to strip the old project out of the plan file. 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Pick what works best for you.
  14. Someone might find this video interesting. It is the SAM Method vs Perry's Template Video. I did not rewatch this, I did this several years ago, but it might shed some light on the different methods.
  15. Check the rough opening size, and then post plan.
  16. Larry, what is so weird about your plan is I can do auto story pole dimensions for the front, left and rear elevations. I get the dimensions on both sides of house. However, on the right elevation I only get dimensions on the right side..... I can not explain it.
  17. Not necessary to assign an elevation to contour lines if they were imported with the elevation data. Already assigned to contour lines.
  18. Hi Joe, we are playing golf at the Vineyard at 12:30 today, are you interested?
  19. Thanks for checking Larry, that is what I thought.
  20. Here is the question, can you open the plan, take a camera view, and have the camera view use the GENERIC SUN<SUN FOLLOWS CAMERA. As it stands now, a camera view uses a USE SUN ANGLE. I would like to have some SUN ANGLES in plan, yet when I take a camera view, i would like the camera to default to use the GENERIC SUN<SUN FOLLOWS CAMERA. Is this possible? Thanks BBB DEFAULT USE GENERIC SUN.plan
  21. I think maybe since I have some sun angles in the plan, the camera auto defaults to using one of those in lieu of the generic sun.
  22. See my pic, this is what I have set right now, yet I still must set GENERIC SUN after I take camera view. Would it be possible for you to take a screen shot of the setting you and Joe are talking about?
