  1. Did you see my post in the other thread that I gave you the link for when Mick and I tried to help you with the same question ? Here is a direct link : If your design has a bottom rail this technique may work perfectly for you but without the details I asked for I am unable to test it for you as railings are very finicky. You can draw whatever you like manually but if one of the existing tool can be used it will save you a lot of time.
  2. Yes likely you are asking a bit too much however there is almost always a way to accomplish what you need. Can you provide a little more information about the project ? Maybe what you have done so far and what your goals are and the shape of the road or driveway.
  3. Yes make them floor mounted and then adjust the offset.
  4. That was a new feature in X8 I believe and is still the same and is done purposely to save memory while you are working with the file and plan and layout is open. It does however print at full resolution and if you want to view it in layout at full resolution you just need to zoom way way in on it and press update and then back off but be aware that this will use more resources to display it that way and may slow you system down as it does mine. Nothing broken it just looks that way.
  5. As usual there is some of each but if you keep your expectations low I am sure everyone will find a little something impressive or useful. Just remember to keep the suggestions rolling in as they do seem to eventually shape the software.
  6. I am a little confused about why the video is all fuzzy when playing at 1080p. Is there something wrong with my internet or are they hiding something. I think even my walkthrough's are sharper than that. Is there a Facebook bandwith restriction or something. There are a few things Larry that if you go frame by frame you will realize can't be done in X9 but really just a teaser.
  7. Not sure of all the details but likely the best method would be a pass through window. Create a square Pass-Through window and remove the casing if you like and the frame also can be removed. You must remove the sill, and make it a Round Top Arch and then Reflect it Vertically. If you need a smaller hole just use a power drill.
  8. Not sure if you saw this thread or not but you could likely just continue on from where I left off and add another Polyline Distribution Path line for the fascia tiles with the correct orientation as well as a finishing tile as Joe suggested but likely for those to stay attached they are one piece but just guessing at this point.. Not so common in my area for some reason.
  9. This is a start and the key is to just make small adjustments at a time and watch in 3D if it is working or not. But the reality is you may need to make some adjustments to your foundation height and grade levels on the lot as the municipality is not likely to let you move the street. I have not seen the site photos but your terrain data on the plot map is rather extreme for a typical building site. Looks like Maple Lane is rather steep with a 10 or 12% grade and your lot is even steeper. Hope it does not snow where you are. That is currently the best terrain video and I am glad you found it hidden away where it is. I have linked it for people in several other threads myself. Cottage_Lane_006.2_Chopped.plan
  10. You may also want to take a look at the possibilities of the new 360 deg. raytraces and maybe even screen capture video of several of those could be edited into a video if you are on a tight budget. Don't forget to post your results if you come up with something good.
  11. I believe that the answer is yes but the time and computing power involved would make it impractical for the majority of clients to be able to afford unless there was a Hollywood budget available. If you have lots of time or two or three high end Xeon workstations at your disposal it would be possible to use Chief's precision camera controls to produce thousands of high quality ray traces and stitch them together into a movie with editing software. One of the guys did a short clip just in Movie Maker a while back using the zoom and pan features of the software and a few raytraces and it was quite effective, so depending on your level of perfection there are lots of choices when heading in this direction. Also Chief did reveal some significant rendering improvements at the UGM this year for the upcoming version, so there is that to look forward to.
  12. Not quite sure what might have happened but they are a little glitchy at times. You could just delete and make a new one and see if it works a second time or select it in plan view and see if it is hiding behind the drywall or something. You could also make a break in it and bump it out over the fireplace if you wanted to break up the extra height of it. Or maybe not.
  13. This is the secret right here : Room Molding Polyline and it will allow you to substitute the existing Room Molding for the manual one. Give it a try when you select the room but if you can't work it out you are welcome to use my plan and continue on or copy the two items into your original file.
  14. Created a Room Molding Polyline for the upper level trim ( Eric's Method ) which allows editing of the polyline and placed a polyline solid under the railing wall that you can paint. There may be a better way but that works as a suspended railing may not be so common. The_CraftsmanRedo1_Chopped.plan
  15. You are using X8 now is that correct ? I can post a test plan if you like.
  16. You should be able to accomplish that with a Room Molding or rather a series or Room Moldings chosen from the library or custom drawn and set to the correct elevation ( Offset ).
  17. Jonathan, This came up again in another thread so I took another look at the situation and was able to use the railing tools to create what I think is the correct configuration and cross section. However things start to fall apart when you come to the next newel post or a corner as Chief just does not seem to have the flexibility to do anything like this properly yet when it comes to railings. Getting closer though.
  18. It should work on Symbols (Manufactured Items) and you can always open the DBX if you need to accurately resize. The only problem with the software that I am currently aware of with the movement of symbols is in elevation view we are limited to an accuracy of 1/16" in vertical movement. Also you can put your software version and system information in your Signature so it is always visible for people that want to help.
  19. The size of a pixel depends on your screen resolution. If you want to adjust how much movement you get when using the arrow keys go to your General Plan Defaults and reduce the default 1" Snap Unit to a suitable fraction. Bump distance is a little different so read the help file when you go to Preferences> Snap Properties> Maximum Bump Distance: Also read about Other Snaps when you are there.
  20. Do you have a photo or cad detail with the rest of the details... Spindles and rail configuration etc. I have been working on something new that might work and is a little more automated. Each workaround seems to have limitations that you have to be aware of. I think I may have since figured out a way to complete this system if yours is anything like this :
  21. It may just be a stuck selection glitch. Save your file and close it then reopen and see if that helps. You should not even have to close Chief but there is always that option or a complete system reboot but that has never been necessary for me.
  22. Sherry, Likely a good test would be to re-import the STL model and take a look. You might find that things like windows all need to have their materials changed. Please let us know how it goes as there are only a few previous threads on this subject.
  23. I certainly hope not. But this could also be the perfect opportunity to write some new code so it does work as described.
