Just let us know if you need specific clarification on an issue as you go and we will try to help. This is a little beyond the general chief knowledge base or training video's so it is great to see someone like you giving it a try. I just sent in a bug report today on one of the procedures that is a little confusing in the way it functions so that is how the software keeps improving when people like you and your customers keep on asking great questions. If this ceiling is all you need to finish off a plan then it might be a good idea to make a test plan of the basic room size and try out some of the suggested procedures and then you can also post that file or create some screen shots so we can see your progress.

One Default width that should satisfy most builds but you can also adjust it for each individual window by wiping out the (d) and entering the new width. If you need to have different widths in the same window then again 3D Molding Poly lines or symbols.
-
There was a recent request for thickness and profile which can be done custom with the 3D Molding Polyline but is quite complicated. But if you mean width, then that can be set in the Window Plan Defaults under the Lites tab.
-
Yes that is a good and bad thing about the software all at the same time. The tool will appear on the bottom toolbar after cad blocking the cad lines and reselecting the window however some doors do not allow this feature. If that is the case then things get a little more complicated and you may have to use 3D Molding Polylines like in my Symbol tutorial:
-
Did you try to regenerate the 2D Cadblock after rotating ? This was the one reason I thought that the symbol method might be worthwhile. So that you would not have to use cad to draw out the plan view but are there enough snap points that it could be dimensioned ?
-
You can make custom Muntins. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00930/creating-custom-muntins.html
-
Well it all looks great in standard view. Just wanted to make sure you had not found a trick to keeping the molding attached to a sloped Soffit placed under roof because that would be a handy tool if it worked. Maybe even a feature request. Did you try to regenerate the 2D Cadblock after rotating ?
-
So is that all symbols in both directions created from soffits with molding ?
-
Just to clarify, this will only work for the creation of symbols as these items can not be used on a sloped ceiling.
-
Yes there is usually a choice of versions in the drop down menu when downloading from the 3D Wharehouse.

How do I change the scale of my layout in x9
Chopsaw replied to ChiefUserRudolf's topic in General Q & A
Yup it all looks fine here as well so it must be something in Preferences so I would take Michael up on his offer.- 17 replies

Nothing in the file Rudolf. Be sure to save and close the plan before uploading.- 17 replies

It may be something majorly messed up with your wall definition that is just making you zoom way out when you draw it causing you to draw it longer than it should be. But that is really just another guess and posting the plan is the way to find out for sure. If you have confidential stuff in the plan post a test version that is doing the same thing. We are all just volunteers that are willing to help.- 17 replies

Looks like you must have fowled up your drywall material. It should not have a texture. Does stucco display the same way?
-
Here is one I worked on a while back and it was even more complicated than it appears you are looking to accomplish but there were some lessons learned that should easily apply to your build. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/11548-wainscotingmolding/#comment-99539 Symbols may be the way to go but it could also be done with 3D Molding Polylines for the verticals and 3D Molding Polylines with a rotated Molding Profile or even and extruded polyline solid for the horizontal pieces generated from a Placed Molding Profile in elevation view.
-
Here is a link to some links of Michael's on the subject.

I don't think chief has put any programming in place to display bird's mouth cuts unless you want to apply a perfectly precise rafter tail. The "point" looks to be generated by the frieze board and Eric may have a solution or comment on that.
-
Was the one that failed a 2018 version ? It is a bit of work but you can use the delete surface tool and remove surfaces from the grouping and create a new smaller symbol.

Mick, Something really strange must be happening for you. Here is the same plan file with eave sub fascia turned back on.
-
Interesting, Check out my test plan just in case there is something we missed. Transparent Soffit Test.plan
-
Mick, Try turning off the sub fascia with it set to 5 1/2" like Perry suggested and then set the Insulation air gap material in the Materials tab with Edit all roof planes. I can post the plan if it does not work but I think it should be working for you.
-
Thanks MIchael, I did not realize rafter tails could be applied to individual rafters. That opens up more possibilities. Thanks Perry, I did not realize the sub fascia settings would still be active and cut the soffit when it is turned off. That is a real bonus because it allows you to keep Auto roof turned on. Do you use that setup often ?
-
Not done so quickly but as accurate as possible and it works but there seems to be an issue with the hip rafters. As usual there is always something that breaks when you try to be more precise. Rafter Tail Demo 2.zip
-
Hey thanks Eric. It looks like that might even work to cut a proper rafter bird's mouth. I will give it a try.
