And you have to switch the Annoset and Layer Set at the same time.

You can only have one sheet size in a Layout, but you can have more than one Layout for a project. You are just limited to having only on open at a time - without some special gymnastics which I don't recommend.

Sherry, This is a classic for use of "Saved Plan Views". You can specify the Reference Layer Set & its Floor for each Saved Plan View. It will take a little work to set it up but once you have the Reference Layer Sets defined it should work fine.

CRC compliance for wall assembly U-Factors
Joe_Carrick replied to Renerabbitt's topic in Building Codes and Compliance
Besides that, for almost all new construction today we are using 10' ceiling heights and 2x4 studs just don't work. I use 2x6's for all exterior and bearing walls. The walls are much stiffer and getting the extra insulation (even fiberglass batts) provides the necessary U value. -
I find that using Distribution Paths and Regions works pretty well without too much degradation in performance. I think this is because Chief is using "instancing" with these tools.

You can use custom fields (Window dbx OIP) with macros for each of those. Then you can add those fields as columns in the Window Schedule. AFAIK, there's no way to reformat the Schedule to side-to-side vs top-to-bottom. However, I could create a custom table showing the information in that format. It would require a set of custom macros.

exterior arched opening with railing... how do I accomplish this
Joe_Carrick replied to jenmarsch's topic in General Q & A
To answer the question, Create the Arched Openings Create the Railing Walls off to the side Open the Railing Walls dbx and check "No Room Definition" Move the Railing Walls into the Openings. -
Send to Layout - Total New user Problem
Joe_Carrick replied to StockDrafting's topic in General Q & A
Usually my views are at 1/4" scale, but I may also have views at 1/2" scale, 1/8" scale, etc. Each Saved Plan View is scale specific and sent to Layout accordingly. I have a separate framing plan for each floor as well as for each structure (in case the garage is detached). I also have separate ceiling framing plans. Our permit submittals in California are a PITA so I provide as much information as possible. -
You will need to make the first set of treads/risers longer so that the second landing can be higher. Then make the third set just as long as it needs to be. All three sets should have the same riser and tread sizes per code. Automatic Stairs only work for some of the most basic configurations. Three run stairs are not one of those.

To get a true 3D representation of this in Chief requires some special 3D tile symbols and use of Distributed Regions and Paths. I have the required symbols and knowledge of how to use them. If you need this done, I would be happy to do it for you - for a reasonable fee of course.

Do you have a Plan or Layout open? If not, then the Library might not load.
-
You have to set the Data folder as the shared folder in Dropbox. Then check the Preferences.
-
Actually, if you set the Library folder to a shared Dropbox folder the User_Library should be in that folder as well. I just moved my entire X10 Data folder to Dropbox and set that in Preferences. My Laptop, Home Desktop and Office Desktop all access that location. I used to use mklink but haven't needed it since I started using Dropbox. Dropbox syncs all user systems. D:\Dropbox\Chief Architect Premier X10\Data (D: is my SSD)

So what happens to the Gable End when you do a Full Perspective Overview (Standard Render)? Do you still see the exterior finish?

Send to Layout - Total New user Problem
Joe_Carrick replied to StockDrafting's topic in General Q & A
That depends on the reason. They provide locks for Layers,Truss Envelopes, Wall Framing, etc. IMO, this particular item (Floor Level - within a "Saved Plan View") is a very good place for a lock. -

It would be nice. Maybe even a way to "Lock" the Floor Level if the view was opened via the "Saved Plan View" in the Project Browser. -
For those who are having slowdown with X10. Check your AV software and make sure that you make it ignore X10 and all X10 folders/files. That is often a problem when we upgrade and copy plans, etc to version specific folders in order to keep everything version specific and not eliminate the ability to use those older plans in the previous versions. The AV software may have been set to ignore the X9 version folders and files but now it needs to be told to ignore X10 as well. Also check your Firewall Settings.

Send to Layout - Total New user Problem
Joe_Carrick replied to StockDrafting's topic in General Q & A
Yes to what Dermot said. I specifically name my "Saved Plan Views" as: Foundation Plan Basement Plan 1st Floor Architectural Plan 2nd Floor Architectural Plan Roof Plan 1st Floor Framing Plan 2nd Floor Framing Plan Roof Framing Plan etc. Then I make sure I only open and close those specifically so that I don't change Floor Levels. That's the one kind of dangerous things that can happen with "Saved Plan Views" -

What version of the software are you using? -
Yes, but basically, you have to set the floor level of the house (bottom of framing) and the top of the trailer bed to the same elevation. Once you've done that you can "lock the trailer layer" and proceed with the design. So assuming you have a trailer bed that's 18" above the terrain and you want to frame the floor with 2x6's and 3/4" plywood (6.25" total) you would set the Floor Structure so that the Floor Elevation to 24.25".
-
You should try to find a 3D Trailer model. There are many at the 3D Warehouse and if you can't find one that's exactly the right size you can modify it using the Transform Replicate tool. If necessary you can open the Symbol dbx and set stretch planes so the resizing will be at the correct places.

Delete the Attic Gable End Wall. Right now you have both a Gable End Truss and an Attic Wall. That means that if you Build all Wall Framing you will have a mess.
-
One think I've found is that "Gable-End Trusses" don't provide a finished Gable End Wall in 3D Views. We have to add "Attic Walls" without framing in order to get the 3D to display correctly. IMO, we should be able to just specify the exterior layers to be added to the "Gable-End Trusses" similar to a Wall Material Region.

If you use a Window Schedule it's all there. Then if you use the Schedule Callout as the Window Labels ..........

I downloaded and installed at the office but I get an error when trying to install at home. Something about "CAFull1.lib" is corrupt. PITA!!!
