How To Get Rid Of Siding On The Interior In 3-D?
Joe_Carrick replied to Woodcraft's topic in General Q & A
Select the Wall and reset the material to "Default". Most likely it was painted at some point unintentionally. -
Can anyone confirm my analysis that there's no reasonable way for two people to be working on the same Plan File at the same time?
-
OK, got the system set to PDT vs PST. Now everything looks right.
-
Why is the Forum time off by one hour? It's 8:34 PDT but the Forum is reporting 7:34

How do you handle more than one person working on the same Project? It seems to me that the only way to do this is with different Plans that link to the same Layout. But the only way I can see doing that is with Details being done by one person, and the Model (aka Plan) being worked on by another. Does anyone know of a way to do otherwise?

See the Stairs Wish List Threads. This is something that everyone seems to want - CA needs to get this stuff done because it's a requirement for almost all CDs.
-
I haven't experienced this - is it reproduceable? What do you have to do to make it happen?
-
You are probably grabbing the Room rather than the wall - it's a setting in Preferences I believe. If that's the case, just press the Tab Key to get to the wall. OTOH, once you have actually selected the wall - you can open it and change it to a half wall (same as a Solid Railing) and set the height to whatever you want.

You will get what you pay for. Depending on the capabilities of the person you hire and the type of work, you can expect to pay up to $100 per hour - or maybe a bit more. Several (probably most) of the power users charge $80-$100 per hour. There are some Chief users that may charge as little as $25 but you might be disappointed in the performance. The power users are much faster and have their systems fine-tuned to produce as much quality work as possible in the shortest amount of time.

No way!!!! You can't blame me for your language. You can say whatever you want about my age, but your language is your own. BTW, thanks for the referral.

Nice tip Curt. I bumped your reputation. -
Alternate behavior with multiple copy command??
Joe_Carrick replied to Richard_Morrison's topic in General Q & A
I can see some validity for both arguments. Definitely for General Objects the current method makes sense. In some cases I can even see it making sense for joists and beams but I don't think it makes any sense for studs. OTOH, it might be nice to have the option to have the third alternative but it's easy enough to just select (or group select) and change the muticopy interval for those cases where a different spacing is needed. -
The only reason I can claim so many years is that I doubled up (16 hour work days) BTW Scott, We only had 3 players on my team in the golf tournament last week (the day before the fires) so we had to take turns taking a shot for the missing fourth (I invited you but ...). Anyway, our average age was 72 (67, 72, 77) with me in the middle. We won low net with a 64 (gross 72) so I can finally say I've shot my age!!!

OK, thanks - I'm glad I didn't get the MAC BUG !!!!!!!

Doug, I'm curious about this - just about the only Text I have in my Layout is the Title Block and Layout Box Labels. I do all other annotation in the Plan and Camera Views before sending them to Layout. Does your statement about Text in Layout mean that the Text in the Plan and Camera Views is OK? Of course since I'm totally PC based and use a secondary PDF Printer vs Chief's "Save as PDF" - I'm evidently immune to this problem anyway

My advice: Get an 17" ASUS G74X Series with 12 GB Ram, NVidea Graphics Card with 3GB Ram and a minimum 2.4 GHZ quad core processor. You should be able to find one (new) for about $1200.00 It's big and fairly heavy but it's a Gaming Machine with adequate cooling and it'll run Chief just about as well as a Desktop machine of the same price. You can hook up a couple of extra monitors (VGA, HDMI & ????)

Is there a way to turn off Auto-Room Name Behavior?
Joe_Carrick replied to Cheryl_C_Crane's topic in General Q & A
Ive got a few years on you - I remember the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's & 80's. The 90's to now seem to be a blur - but I still remember how to kid around. -
John, Here's another way to do it. 1. Create the Door 2. Create the SideLites and Transom using Windows 3. Mull the Door and the SideLites 4. Mull That with the Transom 5. Save to the Library
-
John, I don't know how competent you are in modeling a "Doorway" Symbol, but that's what you need. I could do one for you to your details for $150.00 that you could then just put any door you need into. I would need the dimensions and the wall thickness. Most Door Mfg use 36x80 doors and 14x80 sidelights with frames either 4-9/16 or 6-9/16 deep. I am assuming that the pic on the right is the one you like to use - or is it the one on the left?. The Transom is typically 12" or 14" in height. Let me know if you want me to create such a symbol for you.

Is there a way to turn off Auto-Room Name Behavior?

Kidding, I am. You spend more time complaining about this than it takes you to fix it ps: "Unspecified" automatically suppresses the label and the "Liveable Area" -
Creating a direct vent gas fireplace in X6
Joe_Carrick replied to LynnBuilders's topic in General Q & A
For metal fireplaces I use an "Opening" (Door or Window) in the wall and then move a Fireplace Symbol (Fixture or Appliance) into that opening and apply whatever facing I want. -
Select a wall - the 3rd from the right icon on the Edit Toolbar is "Edit Wall Layer Intersections"
-
Ron, Here's an alternative. It's a Panel Symbol that hangs on the wall. It has a 1/2" reveal all around it and you can stretch it to whatever size you need. The panels will but up against each other. IMO, it's not perfect but it seems to be easier than the Wall Material Region. Wall Panel.zip

Just use an "Opening" and a "Symbol" or "Solids" for the Roll-up Doors.

I believe you just need to display the appropriate layer in the Framing Camera Layerset.
