  1. John, Here's another way to do it. 1. Create the Door 2. Create the SideLites and Transom using Windows 3. Mull the Door and the SideLites 4. Mull That with the Transom 5. Save to the Library
  2. John, I don't know how competent you are in modeling a "Doorway" Symbol, but that's what you need. I could do one for you to your details for $150.00 that you could then just put any door you need into. I would need the dimensions and the wall thickness. Most Door Mfg use 36x80 doors and 14x80 sidelights with frames either 4-9/16 or 6-9/16 deep. I am assuming that the pic on the right is the one you like to use - or is it the one on the left?. The Transom is typically 12" or 14" in height. Let me know if you want me to create such a symbol for you.
  3. Kidding, I am. You spend more time complaining about this than it takes you to fix it ps: "Unspecified" automatically suppresses the label and the "Liveable Area"
  4. For metal fireplaces I use an "Opening" (Door or Window) in the wall and then move a Fireplace Symbol (Fixture or Appliance) into that opening and apply whatever facing I want.
  5. Select a wall - the 3rd from the right icon on the Edit Toolbar is "Edit Wall Layer Intersections"
  6. Ron, Here's an alternative. It's a Panel Symbol that hangs on the wall. It has a 1/2" reveal all around it and you can stretch it to whatever size you need. The panels will but up against each other. IMO, it's not perfect but it seems to be easier than the Wall Material Region. Wall Panel.zip
  7. Just use an "Opening" and a "Symbol" or "Solids" for the Roll-up Doors.
  8. I believe you just need to display the appropriate layer in the Framing Camera Layerset.
  9. Maybe add to that a Rep Point for every 5-10 downloads of an attachment. IAE, I agree that it really should be for a useful thread, suggestion or answer. In the long run, maybe we just need to be judicious and award a point when it's warranted and not award one when it's not. I rarely award a negative point - but there are a few posts that deserve to get them.
  10. There's more than one way to skin a Cat. Some Symbols will work as Balusters and some will work as Panels and then some will work as either one.
  11. Thanks Chris. Is it worth a reputation point? I just have a lot of experience with Symbols and understand the little tricks to make them work.
  12. 1. Copy that Baluster to your user Library 2. Right Click on the name in your user Library and open it. 3. Rotate 90 degrees about the z-axis 4. Go to your Stair (or the railing itself if it's not a part of the stair) - Open and select the modified Baluster for the railing.
  13. Glenn, I was testing on X5 - trying to verify that Auto Detailing would use the Current CAD Layer as specified in the Section View Layerset. I thought I had it working that way but couldn't duplicate it later. In X6, I can define an Annoset to force the Current CAD Layer to function so that Section Views and derived Details are on the Layer that I want.
  14. Jim, Post your exact sequence. You might need to actually save the Plan before making the section. Better yet, open the Template directly, make those changes and save the Template. Then when you open a New Plan, it should work. Basically I don't think the Defaults are updated until the Plan is saved. Nuts, now I can't get it to work either.
  15. Jim, Jim, Are you trying this in X5 or X6? If in X5, you would have to make that change in the Defaults for the Section View Layerset - and then create a new section. That new section should have the prescribed CAD Layer. In X6 it simply won't work except by selecting an Annoset with that CAD Layer (or manually changing the Current CAD Layer) - again, before creating the Section View.
  16. OK, I did a bit more study of the differences. 1. In X5, the Current CAD Layer is controlled by the Layer Set - which is the Section View Layer Set. So by having the Current CAD Layer be CAD-DETAILS you get that for your Auto Details. 2. In X6, the Current CAD Layer is controlled by the Layer Set. However, creating a Section doesn't automatically select an Annoset - it just selects the Layer Set. That means that you would had to have either changed the Current CAD Layer or selected an Annoset which changed the Current CAD Layer. It would seem that Chief should have an Anno Set for Section Views and that creating a Section should switch to that Anno Set (letting the Annoset activate the Layer Set). Dave, Doug, & Brian - This is an implementation BUG in X6. We lost a feature by moving control of the Current CAD Layer to the Annoset. It can be fixed simply by adding a Section View Annoset which would automatically be activated when a Section was created. Of course, that would have to be done in programming because there's no way for us to specify what Annoset is activated per view.
  17. Jim, I went back to X5 and it seems that CAD, Default was the result there as well. Can you verify that it was different before X6? ps: I'm finding that my Sections are not automatically selecting the correct Annoset and Layerset either.
  18. These "Fireplaces" use a fuel that gives off no noxious gas.
  19. Jim, Just go into the Annotation Defaults and change the Section View Annoset to use whatever Layer you want as the Default CAD Layer. Whenever a Section View is selected, that's the Annoset that should be activated automatically. So when you create an Auto Detail, it should be on that Layer.
  20. What if you have an Annoset Details that sets all the defaults for your Details, including the Current CAD Layer.
  21. Here's a Symbol that I made for one of those Fireplaces that don't need a vent. I hope I don't get in trouble for using the name "EccoFire" It's set to hang on a wall 12" above the floor. Normally these things are recessed into a wall, so you'll need to place a "PassThru" Window where you want it and then move the Symbol into that space.. EccoFire Fireplace.zip
  22. It's likely a problem with the scale settings of the drawing - as opposed to the Annoset defaults for text. This is why I've adopted a set of Detail Plans (with the appropriate defaults and scale) where I put my details in CAD DETAILS .
  23. Check this post https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/955-recessed-ceiling-tile/#entry7497 and download the Symbol Library. You might need to define a Layer Set for the reflected ceiling as well.
  24. I've made a few changes and added a triangular 24x24 tile. Note that the z-origin is now offset 3/4" so that the bottom of the tiles align with the ceiling height. They are designed that way so that recessed lights will be flush with the bottom of the tiles. In order for the grid to show in 3D the "Finish Ceiling" of the room needs to be a transparent material such as "Insulation-Air Gap". I generally like to make the ceiling material at least 6" thick - Think of it as a suspended grid. Also note that these were defined as "Interior Fixtures" and will show a label and be included in the fixture schedule so it's important to suppress the label and un-check the "Include in Schedule" box. Once a tile is placed in a room and those things have been done, there are 2 basic ways to populate the grid: 1. Multi-Copy Tool 2. Transform/Replicate Tool I hope this is useful to everyone.
