See if this helps you out...

I'd like to see his work. Is he related to M C Escher by any chance?

I understand the desire for a quicker method, but you should be able to make pretty stinkin' quick work of this by inserting 5 pages using either Insert Page Before or Insert Page After. Then, using your Project Browser, go to Page 1, Control+A (Select All), Control+C (Copy), switch to Page 6, Control+Alt+V (Paste Hold Position), and repeat for pages 2-5 and 7-10. I just tested this method out on 5 layout pages and it took just over a minute. Oh ya, I guess I forgot you also need to relink all the appropriate views so maybe another minute or 2 doing that, but that part would be necessary anyway.

The highlighted portion of your suggestion is really my main problem. I wouldn't say any of them are actually used very often. On average, I'd say I might use any given one of the hard to find textures 2 times in any given year...if that. I think its one of those problems that has no easy answer. It serves as a good reminder as to why I appreciate my tile and flooring saleswoman. Not only does she have a good eye for things but perhaps more importantly...she knows where to find it. Reminds me of a line from Pirates of The Caribbean:... "It's an island that cannot be found except by those who already know where it is."

No, that's not right. Deck framing always gets placed on the floor below the deck room; HOWEVER, in a case where the deck room gets built on floor zero, there is no floor below to place the framing onto, so the framing gets placed onto the same floor as the deck. Its a pretty limited scope we're talking about here. Only an issue with decks built on Floor zero.

Can you not just go to Floor 0 and Build Floor>Insert New Floor?? I should think that would fix your probelmo...no?

Nice catch Ray... HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCOTT!!!!

Unfortunately this bug actually got a little worse in X10. I’m really hoping they get this sorted before final X10 release.

Layout text/information displayed on multiple pages
Alaskan_Son replied to sfriehe's topic in General Q & A
There are many ways to do this. Some using custom macros, but also... You can just create a CAD Detail in plan or layout and then send from that CAD Detail to layout. You would have layout boxes all linked to the single CAD Detail instead of multiple text objects. -
Funny, I was actually just thinking that might be a possible solution and was planning on testing it out when I got back to the office. It seems that it may only work if you at least temporarily remove one of the roof planes or put it onto a different floor.
-
Eric is correct, truss bases are only designed to separate trusses that are running perpendicular to each other. I wish it worked for parallel trusses though. I think the best solution is manually modifying those overbuilt truss profiles.
-
I think this is a good idea and might be about the best solution for me. As you say...at least it’s all in one place. I think I’ll start there and see how it goes. Thanks

That sounds nice and workable, but really time consuming. Maybe if I have a 2 or 3 days or so with absolutely nothing to do I’ll give that a shot. I don’t know though...the problem is I’m not even sure how I would organize that stuff either. It’s a tuffy.

You should not use the bounding box to correct sizing issues after importing. That's really not what it's for. It's a little complicated, but for all intents and purposes, the bounding box is basically just telling the program that I want my geometry to be represented in the plan by these 3 dimensions. Chief will still use the same 3D geometry except that it will reference your bounding box for sizing. I made this video for something else a little while back but maybe this will give you the idea... Now, the best way to actually correct the symbol after importing is to resize it, take a 3d view, and then Tools>Symbol>Convert to Symbol. This will create a brand new symbol with brand new geometry, properly scaled geometry.

You guys are very welcome.

There are several methods, but I think the vast majority of us do it with 3 plan files as both you and Dennis have alluded to. The basics: Draw As-Built plan. Name it "As-Built". Save. Use "As-Built" plan but Save As "Demolition". Create a CAD Detail From View of your floor plan(s), modify and delete items as necessary, put all the line work onto a unique layer, paste hold position and move to back group. This will allow you to both see and display the as-built items if desired. Modify plan as necessary to create demolition plan. Save. Use "Demolition" plan but Save As "Proposed". Modify plan as necessary to create Proposed plan. Save.

You aren't exploding the block when you drop it in your plan.

Thinking of upgrading my MAC COMPUTER, should I?
Alaskan_Son replied to dshall's topic in General Q & A
32 GB and SSD...no doubt. -
Those actually aren't beams, those are soffits. You can consider using actual Beams, polyline solids, slabs, solids, etc. And you can also block that soffit and it will behave better. You can also draw them 3-1/4" wide instead of 3-1/4" deep. That's about all I have for you though. I actually almost never use soffits for anything. I've never understood while so many users like them so much.

I don’t personally need this texture, but I wanted to thank you for sharing anyway George. Awful kind of you.

I’m away from my computer now, but no... you should not have to cut and steal from the same wall type. You should be able to take the hatch and put it in ANY wall type. The reason I suggested maybe having a series of walls was for the hatch FILL as an alternative to the palette idea.
-
Here it is...
-
Try using the Hatch Wall tool. I think I made a video a while back. I'll see if I can find it.

Nice video Lavor : ) Thank you for bringing this up too. This was a fabulous challenge that really peaked my interest and so I decided to make a video of my own with my take. I would highly encourage anyone and everyone to watch this one. I think there’s some pretty good stuff in here...

I think we're talking about 2 different things here: PLAN VIEW: Walls, Normal layer controls the display of the wall and all its framing. If that layer is not on, the wall will not show...at all. If that layer is on AND Walls, Main Layer Only is on, then just the main layers will display. If Walls, Layers is also on, then you will also see the various layer breaks (if you have multiple main layers); otherwise you will just see the wall outline. 3D VIEWS: None of those special layers have any affect. They are for Plan View display only. Turning Off Walls, Normal just turns the wall display off completely. If you happen to have wall framing that will still show as it is being controlled by the framing layers.
