    Good comments, Richard. This one, #7, is my biggest time killer. I have seen several plans that a long-time designer in this area, now deceased, prepared during his working days. The contractors loved him. His plans were so simple and didn't have 1/3 of the info mine do (we are not in a code county, just the city areas). I just can't bring myself to the point I can send this type of plan out the door and I "fiddle" with them until I am happy. Unfortunately, the contractors don't care. But, I am making some progress in the OCD area -- I think.

    I do too. I usually make a copy of the final approved plan with all of the textures/patterns in place. I then use the copy as my new plan for condocs. I use the "Edit all roof planes" icon and change the roof planes to a solid gray. All views sent to layout show clean roofs.

    Yeah, it has 3-HDMI, 1-Display port, and 1-Dual-Link DVI-D port, which I am currently connected to. My 24" HP can also be run from HDMI I think; never have hooked it up that way; seems like HP recommended the DVI when I first rec'd it and hooked it up. I remember this post now that you mention it. Wasn't sure how far back it was.

    Hi, Perry. I seem to recall you mentioning in the past that your eyes are not as good as they used to be either. How does the text look, zoomed out on a plan, at 1080P? What size TV's are you running?

    I am considering going to a TV for a monitor in addition to my 24" HP monitor. My existing HP runs at 1920x1200 native resolution thru a DVI connection. I could possibly go to a 4K TV but that may be overkill for me. My eyes are tired and don't work as good as they used to; I have been looking at monitors for many years. What would you guys suggest that you know works. I am mostly concerned with clear linework and text size/clarity on the new one. I believe Joe uses a 55" to keep his plan on and others, I guess, for his various views and menus. I know some of you may use just one TV with everything on it. I don't want to open Pandora's Box here with all of the variations but I am hesitant to go to a TV without some guidance from those who use them for Chief. I believe my 1070Ti card with 4gb will handle it OK. Any problems running a 1080P TV and a 1920x1200 monitor together? I guess the text clarity is my biggest concern, now that I think about it.     I still use plot lines to layout (no color). CA has done a better job of cleaning up the views and I don't do near the editing I did years ago. With that said, I still have some cleaning to do. I add whiteout boxes and CAD lines sometimes in the view itself - works pretty good. Framing is usually one of the biggest culprits. Where the section is taken can sometimes show weird framing I just don't want; I don't have to do much cleaning in layout anymore but always some.

    I will have to try that next time it happens. It is not consistent; happens sometimes, doesn't others.

    The SAM method basically saves a current plan using the "save as" option, giving it a new name, delete what you don't need, and use that as your new plan. Scott Hall, and others, use this all of the time. There are several threads on the forum dealing with this method if you will do a search for "SAM method." That method allowed us to keep things like cameras, details, schedules, etc. already set up in the plan several versions ago. Much easier to do that now with the changes to Chief.

    There was a thread awhile back about this problem. Mine was cabinet labels. Cabinets in another room would show on the elevations. You could not select them, turn them off, etc. I resorted to using "whiteouts" to cover them up. I believe Chief's response was, "Don't use the SAM method for plans." I never understood how deleted cabinets could have an affect on the new cabinet elevations using the SAM method.

    Not sure where GTdraftingdesign is located (sure would be nice to know a real name), but he may be in an area like I am where almost all of the foundations are concrete block. We almost always flush the mudsill and framing to the outside of the block with the OSB just down over the top of the block.

    Gives an entire new twist to "black light." Never understood why they glowed purple! Sure worked good back in "the day" of our little garage band.

    Are you actually clicking on the save camera icon or just saving the file and then exiiting? The save camera icon is available when the camera is open. If you don't click on it the camera will not be saved and not available the next time you open the file.

    Thanks, Michael. I usually use CAD lines on simple sections but am going more and more to "CAD detail from view" after watching some of your always good videos. Thanks again for your valuable time and expertise; it is very much appreciated.

    Hey, Chopsaw. I guess I should have said, "I haven't seen this on Chief's PDF's; your results, of course, may vary." I remember reading that thread but didn't remember the incident with CA generated PDFs. Thanks for the clarification.

    Not sure why I did it now, but I did exactly the same thing a couple of years ago in my template plan. I don't usually have this problem but it does occur occasionally. My biggest problem usually comes more from the sections; I still have a dickens of a time getting snaps to work properly in cross sections and I have tried changing every locate setting in the dialog box.

    Mark, are you using BB as a print driver from Chief or just reducing Chief's file size post production?

    Another observation. If I view the 144 dpi CutePDF file in Acrobat Reader DC I get the selectable "blue boxes" as I click thru the plan view. These are the areas where the view shows, and prints, lighter than surrounding areas. Sometimes it is not too bad and other times it is unacceptable. I don't get the tiled blue boxes in plot line elevations or CAD views - just plan views. Chief's PDF print driver does not do this. Strange.

    Thanks, Mark. It appears, from the searching I have done so far, that BB now offers a monthly rental but I have to dig deeper to verify if that is true; I suspect this is the way most software is going.
