  1. In your preferences, under "render", you can uncheck "enable gpu raytracing". I don't have a video card that supports it so my option is always disabled. You might also be able to turn it off in the "render technique options", for either the camera or in the render technique defaults for all cameras. There is an option under "global illumination" to turn off ray tracing but I don't know if this works the same as turning it off in your preferences. This option is also disabled for me. There is more info in the help under "gpu raytracing". To be honest, if your card supports it, I don't know why you would want to turn it off. From the pictures I have seen, you should be able to get much nicer views.
  2. I can think of several ways although I am not sure which way is "best". - you could use a molding polyline. - you might be able to use a stacked molding for the wall cap that also includes the bottom piece - you could create a thin cabinet just like we use for interior wainscotting.
  3. I'm not sure from your picture if that is what you want. If it is, then great, you're done. There are a couple of different ways you can do this, but I think a very useful tool is to use the reference display. You can display as many different floors as you like using what ever layer sets you want using the reference display. So if you have roof planes on different floors but you want to see them all in one view, you can create a reference display for each floor and use a layer set that just displays the roof. This can be used instead of the "display on floor above" tool. If all of your roof planes are displaying on one floor, but you only want to see some of them, you can put them on different layers so that you can just display the ones you want. But if the roof planes are on a different floor, you will need to turn on reference display to see them.
  4. I believe that auto save for unsaved plans was added back in X13. I don't think this was Ben's problem though since I don't think you could send an unsaved plan to layout in X12 either. The only other thing that might have been an issue is if you did a save as on the plan and might be looking for the wrong backup version? I don't know if this will help, but there is a tech article about archive files here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00099/accessing-your-archive-files.html
  5. ...and people have accused me of hijacking.
  6. Just as an FYI for those that read this later with similar problems. The automatic migration of things like templates, toolbars, and libraries only works when you are installing the new version on the same machine as the old version. If you are installing on a different machine, you will have to do it manually. If you did not migrate everything you needed and then want to run it again, reinstalling won't help. You can go into your preferences though and use the "reset migration" button. The migration guide I posted the link to above also has lots of good info on how to solve migration problems.
  7. I think the migration guide might be a good resource in this case: https://cloud.chiefarchitect.com/1/pdf/documentation/chief-architect-x14-migration-guide.pdf
  8. I think you would have to create it yourself using something like photoshop. You might want to copy one of the button files that chief installs and then just edit it to look different. You can find them in the install folder under ".../resources/buttons". Look for "basecab.png" as an example.
  9. Your attached file has no data. You might need to make sure Chief is closed before you try to zip it.
  10. My guess is that you have messed up the wall layers. Pocket doors will normally cutout the framing layer so maybe you made this the outside layer of the wall or something?
  11. You could try switching to "not filtered" instead of a filter with nothing hidden. It looks like you are missing one of the library browser panes (there should be 3 instead of 2). If you use "reset side windows" in your preferences, it should restore the browser. Also, if you are still having problems, I think tech support might be a good option.
  12. Here's a dumb question, wouldn't that step up make it a little hard for a person in a wheelchair actually get into that bathroom? Using the sign as a texture in a material will only display in a render view and not in a vector view. You could try converting the texture into a pattern for the material but I when I tried I didn't think it looked very good. If you just need it to display in an elevation view, you could always just use File>Import Picture and use a picture box instead. Resize as needed and make sure you bring it to the front. Easy, peasy.
  13. It looks like your drawing sheet scale is wrong since it doesn't fit on the page. There really isn't any reason you can't print directly from plan view but you need to make sure your drawing sheet is setup correctly and print preview is a good way of telling if it is messed up.
  14. What does it look like in plan view when you turn on print preview? Maybe the drawing is not centered on the page?
  15. If you have two layout boxes linked to different saved plan views (which is good), and they are both showing the same things, then my guess is that the saved plan views are using the same layer sets. Just make a different layer set for each of the saved plan views. That way you can control what displays in one so it is different then the other.
  16. Try this: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-02932/changing-joist-directions.html
  17. I don't think those chairs will look good at all when closed.
  18. Make sure your symbol is millwork. Try using "reverse direction" on the louvers. I suppose it depends on whether you are building real shutters vs. fake ones. Real ones are supposed to shed water away from the window when they are closed.
  19. Sounds like a soffit to me. Also, if you want to change all of your cabinets that you have already placed, you can always just group select them and change them all at once. If you marquee select while in wall cabinet mode, you will just select wall cabinets.
  20. 1. Chief uses the post spacing as a maximum distance between the posts and will then will always space the posts evenly. You may be able to get what you want by specifying a large spacing and then adding break points to get the posts where you want. 2. Make your rectangular post using a solid (or some other 3d object) and then convert it into a "millwork" symbol.
  21. Have you tried making a custom countertop? You can make it any shape you want and then turn the molding on/off on any edges.
  22. For a faster way to move the plan to the origin, you can just use edit area and then the transform/replicate dialog to move it to the origin. Setting a point at the origin (using input point) and then using point-to-point move, would allow you to set the origin to something more specific in your plan, like the lower left wall corner. I believe that having a plan really far away from the origin can cause all kinds of problems, but I don't think it will cause slow downs. My guess is that it is something else about your plan that is causing it to be slow.
  23. If you are trying to lower the ceiling in a camera view, maybe you accidently selected the room instead of the bay window? Pay attention to what the status bar says because it will tell you what you have selected. If you are trying to lower the ceiling in the bay window dialog, and it changes the whole plan, then there might be something messed up in your plan. I have no idea what though since I have never had that happen.
