    X16 PBR

Well there you go, I learned something new today. Now I am glad I didn't give you a hard time about the star light fixture.
  2. So when you build level 2, the program should use cmu walls like you have on your first floor. If you set your "wall resize about" to outer surface before you change them all to brick, then they should be aligned the way you want. The other way to do it would be to make everything in the brick wall part of the "main layer". This might have unwanted side effects though for things like dimensions. Other than that, I think you would have to move them manually to align them.

@kwhitt Yes, nice pictures. You might want to post the things you want on the suggestions forum though. Might also want to add a couple more outlets to that kitchen. @basketballman How are those other area lights different from Chief's area lights?
  4. Try making a copy of the plan and then delete all the stuff that is not related to the walls. I would start with things like furniture, fixtures, electrical, plants, and maybe even any terrain.
  5. The message says you can't change joist direction for a single platform. You can probably get what you need by splitting the platform using a bearing line or room divider or wall set to be a bearing wall or something.
  6. What version are you using? Might be a bug because I am not seeing this problem. I never actually use scroll bars though and had to figure out how to turn them back on just to see if I could. I always use the zoom wheel on my mouse to move around. You can also just click and drag the zoom wheel (or middle mouse) to pan around so for me the scroll bars just waste screen space. One thing that might help is to see if hitting refresh (F5) will bring the screen back. If it's a case of scrolling too far, you can also use fill screen (F6) to put it back on the screen.
  7. You can always make your own: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00767/creating-a-new-material.html
  8. Take a look at your wall type definition for the brick wall. Look at the wall properties and see what the wall layer is set to for the foundation alignment. Also, check to see if there is an offset set. Should be able to get what you want using these settings.
  9. It sounds like all you need is two different views on your layout, one showing the deck framing and the other showing the finished deck. All you really need to do is setup two different layers sets that show exactly what you want for each view and then make sure the layout boxes are using the layer set you want. Just unlinking it from the saved plan view doesn't really change what the layout box shows, it just prevents the layout box from changing if you change any the settings for the saved plan view. It's the layer set that controls what displays in the view. Chief has a bunch of tech articles and training videos about layers, layer sets and using saved plan views. Might be a good time to start digging into this some more.
  10. Check the wall types and make sure you didn't accidently mark them as "partition" walls under the wall properties. If not that, then post the plan so someone can poke around in it.
  11. I couldn't find a way to have this work automatically. I am assuming that you are using "panels" as your railing style. When you have rails and you set them up so that they are offset or the newel posts are offset so that they will miss the post, the program will automatically make them go through. It looks like it won't do this with the panels. I was only able to get the panel to go through if I manually moved the post completely outside of the railing. I would just set the post spacing big enough to get rid of the middle post and put it in manually.
  12. Here is a tech article that might help: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-02772/troubleshooting-library-download-issues.html If that doesn't help, then I would contact tech support on Monday.
  13. Do you have a room under it? If so, then you should be able to just place the light. If not, then try to place it inside the house and then drag it under the roof. If that doesn't work there are other work arounds.
  14. Open the dialog for your wall on the far left. See if you have an "upper pitch" specified on the roof page. If it's not that, then post the plan.
  15. Probably best to start a new thread when you have an unrelated question. Try a search for "roof plan" on this forum.
  16. I don't think trees and other "billboard" images can be converted into symbols. At least I could never make it work. Try creating a solid or a soffit and put the decal image on that instead.
  17. I haven't seen this either but I did have a couple of thoughts... Are you using the latest update? They did release several but I kind of doubt they are going to release any more since I don't think X17 is that far out. Did you ever report this to Chief? Expecting them to fix something without reporting it isn't usually going to work. You might want to post a plan with one of these large blocks to see if other people see the same problem. Could be something in the text or it could just be something going on with your machine.
  18. Personally, I would probably keep X12 installed just in case you need to make some changes to an old plan and don't want to bring it forward into X16. Once you save a plan in X16, you won't be able to open it up in X12 and if you let your subscription run out, then you won't be able to open it at all.
  19. Sounds like an issue for tech support. In the meantime, you could always just use the pdf of the reference manual that you can get here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/documentation.html
  20. Is it possible that you downloaded the X16 version and you are still using X15?
  21. I recommend watching all of the quick start videos and then going through the tutorial guide. Then I would pick and choose training videos based on areas that you need more help in. This is a good starting point: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/getting-started/ You might also want to check out the training events page because it looks like the "residential intro" class is free along with the residential and K&B bootcamp classes: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/events/
  22. I'll just ask the obvious first, are you using the same DPI? Did you try it with the same plan on both machines? I have not used a mac myself so I don't have any thing to compare to. I have seen some big differences on windows though when I have a layout with live views or when I tried to set my DPI too high.
  23. What happens when you "crash"? Do you get any error messages or does the program just boot you out? Do you only have problems when doing a walkthrough or do you have problems when making camera views using PBR (with or without RTRT)? Do you only have the problems with just the one plan or all your plans? I'm not really an expert at these kinds of problems but answering these questions might help you to figure out if it is a plan issue, video card issue, or just a walkthrough issue. If it is only happening in this one plan, then maybe there is something in the plan that is the problem and I would start deleting things and doing a "save as" to figure it out. If it happens with other camera views, then it is probably a video card issue and I would start looking at drivers or card settings. And if it only happens when doing a walkthrough, then it could be a bug in the program but might also be something as basic as running out of memory or disk space when trying to record it. The first place I would go for more help is here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00106/troubleshooting-3d-camera-view-display-problems-in-chief-architect.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03049/troubleshooting-chief-architect-software-closing-unexpectedly-on-windows.html And if neither of those helps, you might want to contact tech support on Monday.
  24. What version are you using? You may not have all the same tools that are in X16 and the ones you do have may work different.
  25. I have a 4070 card and I fired up my old X13 version and it seems to run just fine. I only ran it for about 5 minutes though so if problems start happening after a while I might not see them. BTW, another thing to check is to make sure you have the latest X13 update. I have 23.4.1.8 which I think is the last one they put out. My video card driver is below.
