It is possible to create a round window by making it a round top arch and then using the "reflect vertically" option. You could make them smaller than 6" by editing them in an elevation view. Turning off the casing, sash, sill, and frame will look ok dead on but you will only get a glass surface in the middle of the wall instead of on both sides. Another thing that might work better would be to create an electrical light symbol that just sits on the wall surface. Would be similar to a flush mount light that sits on the ceiling. You could make them various sizes and colors and they would look like they were letting light through when turned on. The part that would be a pain is having one on the inside and a matching one on the outside and keeping them lined up. Might be able to create a light fixture that is actually embedded in the wall by modifying the 3D origin.

Chief has a bonus library called "wine cellar items" that has some.

Your room outside of the stairwell is also marked as an "open below" room type. That is why you don't see a floor.

I just tried a simple case and it worked fine for me. Could be something silly like your objects are too far from the origin or your edges are on off angles. Try posting your plan and someone can look into it.

User catalog not apperaing as an option in setting defualts.
DBCooper replied to Dave_Winchester's topic in General Q & A
The "user catalog" will not appear in the "default settings" dialog box (the one you open when you click on the toolbar button that looks like a "wrench"). The default settings dialog will show you all of the defaults and settings that are saved in a particular plan. It should appear in the "library browser" though (the one you open when you click on the toolbar button that looks like "books"). The library browser shows you all of the catalogs of objects and other things that are available to all plans. -
Either you are doing something wrong or there is something wrong in your plan. When you put the dishwasher in the base cabinet, the label should change from "b24" to something like "dishwasher". I can see both labels in your picture above which I think means your dishwasher is free standing and not actually in the cabinet. Did you get a message saying something about "the symbol you are trying to place is supposed to go into a cabinet"? When you get this message, it means that you are placing it as a free standing symbol which is why the 2d and 3d don't match. If you can't get it to work, you might want to post the plan.
-
If those are from the core libraries, you can put the appliances into the cabinet instead of as free standing symbols. If you place them as free standing symbols, you will need to change the symbol origin to get the 2d and 3d to match.

Different pattern directions on cabinet separation

I didn't realize those were actual doors. You could use a symbol for your metal doors. Symbol doors can have different materials from the parametric ones. -
Different pattern directions on cabinet separation
DBCooper replied to wolftide45's topic in General Q & A
You might be able to get close by changing the separation into a slab door panel instead. I made my doors inset with 0" clearance and it looked pretty good except the mapping started over at each piece. -
D. It is what it is. As far as I can tell, positive Y is always on the right side of the wall going from start to end and positive X is always away from the wall start. If you make sure that the start and end indicators are turned on in preferences, this is more obvious. This is why Rene's suggestion of reversing the wall can help. The good thing about this rule is that it works for all door and window types, whether they are hinged or not. I think I would prefer it if instead of X and Y they called it "distance along wall" and "distance from wall" though. X and Y seem pretty ambiguous.

You could set the left and right side to "none" but then you would have to place the side partitions manually. Probably a bunch of ways to build this unit and I don't think there is any one in particular that is going to be much better than the others.

As for Erin's original problem, the only thing I can think of is that maybe your camera is seeing hardware for cabinets behind your camera instead of what you are looking at? If this is the case, you might just need to move the camera a little bit forward.

There is a size limit for files on this forum and most plans will be too big. So do a "save as" and delete everything that isn't related to the problem. Then "zip" the file to compress it and make it smaller. You need to make sure you do this when the plan is not open in Chief or it won't work. As for your problem, I got nothing. Really need to poke around the plan to see what is going on.

Tab then delete.

Could be related to not printing in color. If you are printing with color off, see if your preference is set to black and white or if it is set to greyscale.

I would strongly encourage you to spend more time reading and watching videos if you want to learn how to use Chief more efficiently. By default, Chief will save daily archives. You can have it save them more often by changing a setting in your preferences. This tech article will tell you how to find them: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00099/accessing-your-archive-files.html

See if these help/training materials on "split level" entries help. If not, then post your plan and someone could probably give you some better suggestions. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/323/creating-a-split-entry.html?playlist=88 https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00587/creating-a-split-level-entry-or-foyer-with-a-landing.html

One thing that might work is an angled front cabinet. You can actually flip it around to make an angled back cabinet too. The other thing people do is just create a cabinet front using a 3/4" deep cabinet and then place it where you need. Do a search on this forum and you should be able to find a bunch of old posts with various solutions.

My guess is that the partition does not have the molding set up correctly. If you post the plan, I bet someone could figure it out pretty quick. The other thing you can do is select one or more of your cabinets and use the "make cabinet molding polyline" tool to convert the automatic cabinet molding into a custom molding. Then just edit the shape as needed. This is similar to how you can fix room molding problems.

No downloading or importing required. I just did a search for "chaise" in the library browser and was able to find 5 in the core libraries that might work.

I found this in the help system: When content is deleted from the Library Browser, data associated with that content may remain in the library database. If you delete library content for the purpose of increasing available disk space, you can right-click on the User Catalog as well as the Trash and select Vacuum from the contextual menu.

According to Chief, that message means that the file is corrupt and there is nothing they can do to read it. Your best bet is to find a backup or archive file that is not corrupt. Here is a recent post about the same problem:

Separation lines in exterior walls with different interior finish
DBCooper replied to mprovost129's topic in General Q & A
I think if you make any changes to the material in a plan and then paint it from the library, then you will get a duplicate. Changing the material in a plan does not change the library material. Or if you make changes to a material and then copy something from one plan to another, then you will get a duplicate. Changing the material in one plan does not change it in any other plans. This also means that if you open up an old plan and then paint a new library material that it might be different then the old material giving you a duplicate. Or copy something from an old plan to a new plan. Or... I would be that there are a lot of other ways to get duplicate materials. As far as I can tell, Chief doesn't really care about the name of the material and it just looks at all of the settings to see if anything is actually different. This is completely opposite of how it handles things like layers where it only cares about the name and ignores all of the other settings. This is why the purge and merge tools are the only way to keep your plan materials sane.- 15 replies
