From what I have read , depending on the Program/Game the 3080Ti is within 5-10% of the 3090 and quite a bit Cheaper even though the 3080Ti is quite a step-up $$$ wise over a 3080, looks like you are doing okay on a 3070 though..... and a 3080 is likely best bang for the buck currently. The 3090Ti is still all rumors at the moment , no real world tests I've read about and I assume the cost will be through the roof ...IF you can get one.....

Ok Chief's Version of Ruby then , they sure don't make it User Friendly or easy for anyone with an interest as there is virtually no documentation Online to support it's use. There are a few Threads with info but not many.... as some were lost with the Beta Forum, pity Chief doesn't have a Sub-Forum for Users and CA Ruby Experts to help Each other.... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/25611-macro-returning-units/?tab=comments#comment-205770 M.

Knowing ruby inside out helps I guess ..... I played around with it yest. but %area.convert_to_acre% didn't work ( after making the new acre "Unit" ) Thanks. M.

I am not sure what File you are referring to Joe? a Windows 10 Update? I am on the latest Win10 myself (AFAIK) and had no issues installing thee new Studio Driver V.472.84
-
Might be time to try DDU on both the Nvidia GPU and the Intel GPU and let Windows Update provide Drivers and then update from there as it seems you have more than 1 issue. Display Driver Uninstaller https://www.wagnardsoft.com/

Laptops ( your Sig. doesn't mention that ) can be a bit different due to the iGPU and the need for compatibility between the Intel and Nvidia Driver , but the above warning is based on both parties passing the buck when it comes to uneducated Users and having to provide Customer Support. I have no issues on my Asus Laptop (2070s) in my SIG with this Driver but I do run DSA to make sure the iGPU and Wifi/BT are all current , but I encourage you to do what you feel comfortable with , I have been supporting and build computers since the 90's and am hence comfortable doing my own Support Let Geforce Experience do it for you if you are not comfortable running the Installer yourself... https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/ Mick.

As noted above Chief now recommends the Studio Driver for Chief as it is "supposedly" more stable and tested more by Nvidia. But I switch between Studio (SD) and Game Ready ( GR) as needed etc if Issues arise. I have never heard the "Advice" you mention and have always download the latest Drivers Manually from Nvidia, as most Manufacturer's don't update their website often ...or at all... but you can let the Driver install Geforce Experience as well ( I don't ) and it will do Updates for you as well, I just prefer to be proactive in this type of thing. No crashes yet on this Latest Studio Driver......... Version:472.84 Laptop? 1 thing to check would be that Netflix is using the Nvidia card and not the iGPU *I do however used Intel's Driver and Support Assistant App (DSA) on both my Laptop and Desktop to keep all the Intel Drivers Current. Mick.

Did you check the Fill transparency settings?..... M.

I don't disagree and you would think Acre and Hectare were already built in being the common 2 areas for large parcels of land , but CA's track record on supplying "Industry needs" is not stellar... ConDocs are almost a 2nd thought these days.... No, we don't have access to anything hardcoded such as the built in Macros to alter them AFAIK. Ok, you know Macros better than me, but I was thinking perhaps the Num.Formatter could include the conversion equation from say Sq.Ft. M.
-
Why are you trying to do it via the Unit Conversions? , rather than just writing your own macro to put into the Polyline Label for example ? Just wondering if you are over thinking this? you maybe able to use the New Number Formatter in Ruby to convert sq.ft to acre perhaps? M.

True, like you I always look at value and usually buy 2nd (or 3rd) tier to save $$$ without sacrificing too much For sure , these days you likely want to look at a 12th gen CPU ( eg 12700K ) and a Z690 Motherboard for PCIe 5.0 all which will push the budget, and a 2TB NVME 4.0 SSD, but for futureproofing and perhaps getting 5 yrs out of it probably worth it. I would definitely do the upgrade to x12 even with the 970 it will be fine, ( and it's paid for ) but X13 has numerous "little" issues for me but thankfully not many crashes, however CA is getting more expensive all the time and SSA is still the cheapest way to stay current, get a few years behind and it is a major reinvestment. Buying a complete System is still the "cheapest" way to get another 3080/3080Ti , MarkMc got his new(ish) Desktop from AXA Direct and is happy with them.... https://www.avadirect.com/ M.

Chief x13 keeps crashing on my Windows 11 Alienware computer.
Kbird1 replied to JPCompass's topic in General Q & A
Is your Signature accurate? are you using a 970 GTX rather than an 3000 Series as Dermot mentioned in the other thread? see below now Just wanted to give you all a quick update... Our testing team is still having problems finding a reliable way of reproducing this problem or any reliable workarounds. They have setup a special test machine with a specific test case that will randomly crash but they have found it can take anywhere from 20 to 2,500 consecutive tries to get the problem. We are trying out new fixes using new theories daily but this random behavior is making it very difficult to find a solution quickly. Our current theory is that this is a video card driver issue with the new Windows 11 OS. We are also trying to work with Nvidia to see if they can help us find a solution for this problem. When we last spoke to them, they said they could not reproduce the problem. Unfortunately, they were not actually using a 3000 series card on Windows 11 when they tried. Hopefully, we can get this problem looked at by someone else there that is a little more experienced. If you are having this problem, and you have a reliable way of reproducing it or a reliable way of avoiding it, please contact our technical support team and give them whatever information you might have. Also, if you have an Nvidia 3000 series card and you are still using Windows 10, I would highly recommend that you do not upgrade to Windows 11 just yet. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience that this is causing and please be assured that this is still our top priority. -

I am on Win10 , but only seem to see this issue when I am working in older plans started in Earlier Versions and have been seeing it since Beta. I also have the bad Black Flashing Issue still when Sending to layout and Saving Cameras on occasion. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/32432-send-to-layout-and-save-view-issue-black-screen-flashes/page/2/?tab=comments#comment-255566 Mick.

Your 2nd post over there is most interesting except many are NOT using Windows 11 like myself..... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/32694-x13-internal-rendering-error-crash/?do=findComment&comment=257364 M. -
Chief x13 keeps crashing on my Windows 11 Alienware computer.
Kbird1 replied to JPCompass's topic in General Q & A
You could test that by backing up your User Library ( Export Function) , then delete the User Library File , Chief will replace it with a fresh User library (empty) which should let you see if you have a Corrupt User Library Symbol , been a few years but it has happened to me in the past. M. -
Might also be this....... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/18908-signature-here-at-chief-talk/?tab=comments#comment-155662 Mick

I think the exports are "Dumb" ie you get just the Text similar to a .CSV file. M.

definitely need more details but it sounds like a Graphics Card / Driver Issue to me.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03140/forcing-chief-architect-programs-to-use-a-specific-graphics-card-in-windows-10.html Mick -
Not with a Single pc lying on the ground like that but if the Strapping ( seen as a girt in CA X13 ) is in the Wall definition and the longest length is 12' in the buy List and is the Priority length ( above 8+10' pcs ) it will report automatically it looks like. * pretty sad they are still using X3 Videos..... In my Case A:/ is also a NVME Drive ( Patriot Viper) which I use for My Docs ( now 230GB on it's own),plus my Chief Downloads and backups now. Originally I did it as C:\ was too small, so I used win10s ability to move system folders/Libraries off the original smaller 500GB C:\ , but found it helped when a bad win10 update failed and I had to reinstall Win10, I just pointed My Docs back to A:\ and everything was there again, no lost Data. At one Point I didn't have Chief installed on C:/ either but I found library updates didn't always work properly and a fe other strange issues so ended up moving Chief back to C:\ M.
