  1. Thanks Brink , just wondering if your symbols only work for X6 users or for older versions too eg X5 or X4 ?
  2. Thanks Joe , those windows work well , they are on the Furniture ,Exteriors layer so I switched it them to Windows Layer , I assume that's no issue right? definitely easier than messing with the Bay window tool so thanks again. M.
  3. Not sure 100% but only HD Arch. and HD Pro can do Vector view and Elevations , so he is stuck with Camera view only. Some titles deliberately block some of the 3d view too ,eg you cant see the whole foundation ...nothing below ground , unless that change in recent titles ? M.
  4. We'll have to wait for enlightenment till 3pm PST minimum? , its 3AM in Oz
  5. Thanks for taking the time Joe , much appreciated, will try and play with these later. Mick.
  6. I saw this on HomeTalk , and thought the same as you, but he has HD Suite so doesn't have Vector view , so Print to PDF may be an option?...
  7. Guess I'm missing something yes pretty much , except we have to place a post either side in the Corner about 2 1/2 back , as we aren't allowed to Notch 4x4 posts at all (Code) so each Corner needs two. Can it be made to follow down the Staircase too ? Thanks Glenn
  8. "quote" With no base cabinet I think the Soffit Tool is the easy Solution unless you have X6 of course with custom backsplashes. someone may followup on this: If you have a wall cabinet above your hood ,but still have the slide in Range ,does trying the checkbox for "build backsplash down to Base cabinet" , in the Wall cabinets DBX, build it down to 36" counter height or not? , not sure it works if there is no base cabinet? Yes me It is possible to use the Wall cabinet's Backsplash checkbox to generate a backsplash down to the Countertop Or lower as seen in the images . I made the base cabinet standard width BUT made it 1/2 thick and 1/2" high ( making higher changed it's look) ...it looks like the baseboard in the image, but still allows a standalone range to be slide in.
  9. True , might be the only answer , though I was hoping I was just missing something, the Standard Railing is fine but it has to sit On the deck or Stairs. M.
  10. Is it possible with the Standard Railing tools to Fascia Mount Deck posts ? specifically 4x4 is used here a lot and using this method opens up another 6-8" of deck space which can be important on smaller Decks. I know I can use the "Newel Offset" box in the DBX but that only moves the Newel , not the whole Railing it seems. Have I missed something or do I need a Custom Built symbol ? to achieve this ? Thanks. M.
  11. this idea of using the free Oracle VM mentioned in another thread may work too or better than the MS XpMode VM too. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1174-chief-architect-10-on-windows-81/#entry9347
  12. appreciate it Joe . Never made symbols , just a few Blocks , so if it is made in one version it is only good for that version or newer versions ? just curious as I see symbols on the other Forum but most I can't use , not having X6. M.
  13. Ok thanks ...I'm not on X6 , so please post as X5 or earlier ( multi version possible?) thanks. M.
  14. Thx Joe but don't waste too much time if it's a big deal but if you have them a 36hx36w or 36hx48w would work since its normally above the Kitchen Sink so would go in 42" off the floor. I assume it's not resizable then from your comment? Mick
  15. Hi Joe, did you post those windows for X5 on the old forum ? I'd like to look at them if possible... Thx. Mick
  16. The calibz file is a standard zipped folder/file, though 7zip / WinZip / WinRAR etc may not recognise it as such , you can use one of them to open the exported file (Or any calibz file) , mind you the file will no doubt be huge, possibly in the GB's area if you exported ALL libraries to one file... M.
  17. All Libraries can be exported for backup, eg to an Ext. HD if you don't want to download them all again but it does take a bit of work.... M.
  18. Thanks for the update .... I thought I had seen this type of window in one of the Window Library's eg Marvin but I guess not, the search function aint to helpful without knowing the exact name of the window type etc.... M.
  19. This tutorial may help , it is for Post and Beam http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00598/
  20. did you delete the half wall and see what happens ? rebuild it with invisible wall from end of half wall to other wall , not all the way across the room perhaps? maybe it still "sees" the invisible wall? did you hit F12 to rebuild everything yet?.... M.
  21. Sash inset wont help but I used Mark's Pass through solution with a Box window recently but had to increase the FRAME depth so it would show white all the way to the Pass through's casing/frame in 3D. May have played with the Pass through's Frame setting too? Is that a library Window or just the Bay Window Tool ? Here that is usually called a Kitchen Garden Window , they work pretty well for increasing light and making the Kitchen "feel" bigger... M. Edited: correction sorry .....there are two Inset settings frame and sash....not sure if the Frame inset will help but in the Pass thru work around above I set the window frame to 12" deep see the image below. Sash Specify the size and position of the Sash. Increasing the Side, Middle, Top or Bottom decreases the area of the glass. • Specify the Side width of all vertical sash members: those at the window sides as well as the central members of casement and sliding windows. This is also the width of the top portion of the window when an arch is specified. • Specify the Middle width of horizontal components between the top and bottom sash in double hung, double and triple awning, and double and triple hopper windows. It does not affect casement and sliding windows. • Specify the Top and Bottom sash widths. The Top value is not used if the window has an arch. • Specify the Depth, or thickness, of the sash stock measured from the exterior to the interior. • Specify the Inset, the distance between the frame and the outermost sash. If there is no frame, the inset is measured from the outer surface of the wall’s main layer. Frame Specify the size and position of the Frame. If this value is set to zero, the wall’s main layer thickness is used as the frame depth. • Specify the Side, Top and Bottom widths of the window frame. • Specify the Frame Depth. This value cannot be less than the wall’s main layer thickness. • Specify the Inset, the distance that the window frame is inset from the exterior of the main wall layer. Normally, the outer surface of the frame aligns with the outer surface of the main wall layer. A positive value moves the frame towards the wall’s exterior while a negative value moves it towards the interior.
  22. maybe I'm not explaining it well ? so I looked at the KB for more info and found these two articles,,1st one is what I was trying to explain and the second one, last paragraph might help set things up for All Plans by adding things to the Master List once you have it setup for one Plan 1st. http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00510/59/Chief-Architect/Materials-List/Controlling-the-Information-in-a-Materials-List.html and http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00603/59/Chief-Architect/Materials-List/Saving-Changes-and-Prices-Entered-into-a-Materials-List.html If you didn't find your Comment Column , this maybe your issue.... http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00630/94/Home-Designer/Materials-List/How-to-Restore-a-Column-in-the-Components-Dialog.html
  23. If you alter / add to the comment field for any library item it will be there for every plan (BUT you may need to copy the item 1st as I don't think to can edit "locked" items)....... if you alter it IN PLAN it is only good for that plan I believe.... You can hide any of the unused columns ( not floor) and categories so you don't need to scroll so much and reorder ( move up/down list) them in the Materials list display Options..... under the DBX's own Option tab you can also display per floor or per Supplier for example adding the reqd' Energy rating info for Windows http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01074/236/Chief-Architect/Schedules/Specifying-a-Windows-Energy-Ratings.html Since you are doing Cabinets , have a look at this one too http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00991/236/Chief-Architect/Schedules/Editing-Cabinet-Components-and-Creating-a-Cabinet-Schedule.html As I said I am no expert and things maybe different in X6 so you may need to dig into the Reference Manual too. Mick.
  24. you can alter the Comment field in the Components list (scroll right>) if desired and many of the other fields too , which would make the Change Permanent rather than per plan for any given object , so you may or may not want to do it in the Components list , though it is still be editable in the Materials list once generated. M.
  25. Yes in Pref.>Materials>Report style is where you can adjust the order by moving them up and down the order and add sub categories if wanted and decide what categories you want in your materials list BUT you can't edit the Components there, to edit an items components you can select any library item, edit>component , or do the same to any item(object) in your plan. ( maybe other ways too?) it is in this DBX where you can turn on or off the item's components ,listed in the Materials List , with the "Use" Check Box. Once you select an Object ,you will see a Blue icon on the edit menu that looks like a spreadsheet page. in your 3rd pic I don't see the comment column? so you can't edit it...... so my guess would be you have it turned off in the (Layer) Display Options ? (Icon with the checkmark) The Options dialog is useful when you only want to see certain Columns on your materials list once generated IF that category is ON in the Prefs.>Materials>Report style Tab. Once you have the comment field to work with you can edit it by clicking in it and typing , the description and size field are editable too , Count is NOT but extra is..... M.
