  1. The newer programs would automatically use multiple cpus (cores) but with X1 you had to check a box for that in the preferences>general area ,is it on? ....also you can set the NVidia driver to use threaded optimisations too if you haven't for X1.exe
  2. The Room DBX (on the general tab)in HD Titles also allows you to include/exclude the room in the calculated living space , but it maybe off by default ? check the 3 settings.... the HD Forum is here for more questions too ,same sign-in ID as here. https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/forum/5-qa/
  3. yep the framing is built auto , but a few jobs ago I defined the rim joist to be white and it seems to now be the default even on this new play plan I did today , but aint sure right now how/where I did that....
  4. Probably my fault the OP hasn't been back and the question opened up the idea of all stairs being wrapable , inward and outward but so far I can't do it unless it is a deck.
  5. Jon is right the bim models are actually .rfa files so can't be used ..... there are 2D DXF's as well but not sure that's any help ..... pity cos people around here like their toilets too..... http://www.totousa.com/Professionals/Downloads/CADDrawings.aspx
  6. He did David , he had a double post happen , see the other raised entry thread
  7. I wouldn't say it's most of them but better than nothing, I guess you aren't backing up your computer to an external HD ? better start .....if you had you would have My Docs>CA Data folder etc to copy back , but you need to backup the folders in the chief program directory as well , so a $75 USB HD is well worth it..... or even a cheap 16GB USB key just for Chief...
  8. Then it must be something in the newer versions, all it does for me is change the width of the wall......3.5" railing to 4.5" stucco wall ,and hence the railing it does not apply the stucco finish to the rim joist automatically ,however I can change it to stucco in the 3D window if needed simply but I don't need to change wall type to do that. Of course this is just my experience and may have something to do with another setting? wasn't trying to argue , I certainly aren't a Chief Guru......
  9. Played around some more in a new plan with rect. building and it would seem CLICK STAIRS only "recognise" DECKS, they would not wrap the house corners ,at least for me..... haven't tried enclosing the stairs off the house with invisible walls yet..... before placing the stairs , in the Deck Railing wall DBX if you set NO Railing and set the railing height to 0", and the baluster and newel width to 0" , I don't get the weird residual Posts where the initial "doorway" is cut thru the railing by the click stairs left behind ......probably a better way ? ....yes ...see edit below Edit: If you know you are going to wrap the stairs use the straight deck EDGE tool , not the Straight deck RAILING tool , then there are no weird posts when you place the Stairs.
  10. I think the 1500 and 600 in Micro's DBX is referring to mm not inches isn't it? which is 60" and 24" very approximately..... try unchecking "keep all surfaces" I think X1 is drawing EVERY thing in the 3d image even when it isn't necessary , eg behind walls etc. hit "Help" when in the DBX and see what it says about "keeping all surfaces" M.
  11. so far no help and this KB article doesn't work either , so I wonder if I have a setting wrong as click stairs wont wrap either in or outside and they should once inside 6" of the corner..... http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00788/
  12. figured this wasn't a new problem so did a search on the old forum and Scott you have videos , still watching them but yes you used invisible walls for inverted wraps , and you used Click stairs which I think enables the outside corner wrap as it doesn't work with "normal" straight stairs using ALT key to go down. M. http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread.php?63193-Wrap-around-stair-videos-by-dsh&highlight=wrap+stairs
  13. forum is slow today by the looks , I had already edited my reply before your last post showed up again.....
  14. did you mean to post a pic Perry? edit : 5 mins later the pic is there..... and yes at least for me it is....
  15. A lot (not all) of the content is the same as HD PRO and hasn't been updated since 2012 so use the HD Site for downloads to get started perhaps.... http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/useraccess/content.html This situation I have been thru too ,but now export my libraries once download and back them up to DVD.
  16. yep I hope Nick will clarify as my understanding of Winders needing a room comes from this KB Article http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00884/
  17. I don't have a WALL Style tab/option ,only Wall Type, so I thought perhaps it is an X5 or X6 only option ? or I was missing another checkbox.? M.
  18. I thought winders needed an enclosed (defined?) room to "enable" them ? ..... so enclose the whole staircase in invisible walls? all 4 sides? M.
  19. Nice video Kevin , thx..... and your language is so much cleaner than Scott's
  20. Is WALL STYLE an X6 setting? (vs Wall Type) I thought if I changed the wall type after it was drawn as a deck railing , it would change to the new defined wall type but it didn't,in either case of a deck in my play plan above, the rim joist etc stayed as it was, is there another setting to check? M.
  21. As noted checking winders in my above play-plan made no difference... for plan view the standard square stair and some CAD lines may have to suffice , but you maybe right Glenn may know....
  22. Nice advice Curt.... that Ash does look good too Scott...wouldn't you lose your railing if you did that? and a wall would build?
  23. Tommy's pic is right but with the 580 40% should be fine... I am guessing the laptop CPU maybe holding things back rather than the GPU. setting it to zero does help slightly with the redraw speed, it just makes any thing angled or curved more "jaggy" until you do a final view. not sure if X6 works differently or not as far as using hardware AA etc....
  24. a workaround for that one corner ,if you only need it for a few views ? , you can pull the side of the stairs thru the wall in plan view , it may appear on the inside too? though is probably buried in the foundation depending on design, but looks right in a 3d view . It doesn't work so well if you need multiple angles stairs though as the don't "recognise " each other and join up. And of course plan view doesn't look right either.... edit: I had done this in the past but just had a quick play , and with a closed stair and railings turned off it works fine.... nothing on the inside ,so the gotcha is what plan view looks like. M.
  25. there is a KB article on flat roofs I saw a while back, might help..... here it is... http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00295/34/Chief-Architect/Roofs/Creating-a-Flat-Parapet-Roof.html
