  1. I'll leave the main question to others I have no experience with Sketchup , lots with HD Pro and now Chief but wanted to make Sure you knew that HD Pro was not capable of Ray tracing , that is a Chief Feature only. You'll also need to work with an Architect with the same version or newer of Chief, if newer though you wont be able to edit their Plan, just view it which may mean you need to upgrade once you find an Architect . The Current HD Pro 2015 = Chief X6. M.
  2. There was a good discussion on Chimney's about 6-8 weeks ago . Scott even did video's for his method , I had another .....I'll see if I can find the thread M, Here it is https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1313-chimney-how/?hl=%2Bchimney+%2Bchase
  3. strange cos slabs are built all the time without the stem wall (curb) but I learn something every time i'm here
  4. Adobe Reader has a tendency to automatically set the Print size to 95% rather than 100% , i'd check that.... M.
  5. did you try setting the stem wall height to 0" too ? along with the stem wall top = 0" M
  6. strange cos the images in this thread show a Slab footing in Larry's other thread they show a Stemwall foundation.... Good idea how to use the same foundation as the house default (stem) and this Guest Room though ,......footing " = stem wall " settings
  7. If I remember correctly the Brick ledge setting is in the Wall DBX not the Foundation DBX , the checkbox maybe got enabled somehow? M. Yep Perry posted an image here https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/951-another-beginner-question-ground-level/page-1#entry7432
  8. Have not seen the G13 ....interesting , I hate reaching for the keyboard all the time.... thx for the tip.
  9. ahhhh yes it is probably using the default foundation from the house then, didn't realise there were two buildings. designate the Guest house a garage perhaps? Mick
  10. You don't get Stem walls to play with IF you built a Monolithic Slab when you built the foundation as far as I know , so I'd say you used a Stem wall foundation by accident.
  11. did you see post no#4 ? Brick ledge perhaps?
  12. Looks to me like you built it with a Stem wall foundation with 16" footing and 8" wall not a Slab
  13. Looks like you have the Brick Ledge Setting on ?
  14. Don't use it a lot but I have always had to Ctrl-Drag it thru the wall to the outside after placing as far as I remember. I too ,don't remember auto chimneys Mick
  15. Actually a very good point ..I also use PDF995 for many other programs as well almost daily.
  16. This is true Lew , been a while since I saw that problem but I think I had to pull up or down to correct it then , and it all snapped back as it should of been. M.
  17. in X6 under Build> there is no option for Fireplace ? no icon on the toolbar for same?
  18. My Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman (trackball) has 8 programmable buttons and is probably 8 years old at least , I also have a number of their 4 button Marble Mouse (Trackball) but they are simple 4 button mice with no scroll wheel etc which is why I have the Trackman , wheel is great for zooming in chief.
  19. "Show same wall types Handles" does , but don't think the RC - drag does either...
  20. in 3D views the mouse controls are used depending on how the Rotation is set in 3D>move camera with mouse> Orbit/Pan/Dolly etc. the next option lets you do the same for the keyboard arrow keys.
  21. Chief or HD Pro don't do engineering Calcs as they are usually ,by code done by Engineers in most places. However even Home Designer Pro (and Chief) can do Pole Barns and other such structures easily , there are even tutorials on how to do it..... http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00598/ http://www.chiefarchitect.com/search/?q=pole+barn&default_tab=all&site=chief_architect&client=chief_architect&restrict=ChiefArchitect&proxystylesheet=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chiefarchitect.com%2Fsearch%2Fchiefsearch_stylesheet.xslt&output=xml_no_dtd&submit.x=14&submit.y=12even http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01081/
  22. Save to PDF is native in X6 In X5 go to the Help Menu and there should be an option to download PDF Print Driver , I use PDF995 which works well and is Free ,but has a splash screen for 5 secs? when you print, Stay away from CutePDF , it adds other programs to your computer too such as Comodo Dragon , a web Browser. M.
  23. I found with both videos I had to maximise the browser , then maximise the video window , the chaptered video does revert to normal size at the end of each chapter though needing re-maximising. Use IE10 on PC anyway.
  24. upper and lower walls aligned ? did you try manually pulling the upper wall down into the lower and see if it merged properly ? M.
