  1. what does the view look like in Standard view ? that looks like Vector view ....so have you played with materials and your Pattern File/colour for every one is the same beige/drywall? as Curt said always post the plan if possible....it stops the guessing.
  2. Strange Glenn deleted his post above..... this is a thread about that from a few weeks ago ...... but if you rebuild the Roof the new gutter will become the default too as it does in a 3D view....see this thread https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/5778-gutters-keep-reverting-back-to-default/?hl=gutter
  3. if you unlock the Gutter layer (Locked by default once roof built) and display it if needed , eg in plan view you can then alter the Gutter materials, profile etc M.

  6. dennis maybe correct as see no evidence of the Coal Colour on your exterior , however your "stud wall" has no Studs....it should be defined as it will be built in the real world (ITRW) ie 12mm drywall, 90mm stud,40mm Corro ( or whatever depth it is) not 20mm of Coal Colour and 100mm of drywall , though I am not sure if that is part of the problem or not...you certainly wont get any framing...
  7. Come on guys , all that time and effort to do examples , and you don't post the plan ...... Like the Others I think it is a Clever illusion , using Hardi Panel or similar by the looks (horizontal flashings). M.
  8. Great ....should be easy to change the 8" Concrete Stem Wall to the 200mm/300mm Concrete Block it looks like you need , you can also change the Wood Framing to Steel framing for the interior wall if needed. Mick.
  9. @Scott I do seem to remember a Thread on Cabinets as Columns but perhaps the Vids are on the old Forum ? as I don't remember them on your youtube/CExperts pages
  10. Thanks Glenn , I haven't ever seen this technique before , might still be the quickest way to get something in place and then modify settings as needed. You should probably add it to the Tips Section , another one of your hidden gems , that's not in the Manual and likely won't be found by many in this thread. Thanks again. M.
  11. If you have the Status Bar on Johnny , there is helpful Tips on what and how each tools works too
  12. Hi Bob , Scott does a quick intro on what he dubs the MRLS (Multiple Reference Layer Sets) in these two videos done in X3 , not sure what has changed since then... http://www.chieftutor.com/scotthall/mrls1.html
  13. Your last video isn't really a case of where to use the Room Ceiling height to control walls Larry as you only want 2 walls at 72" not all 5-6 that form that Room , using the Half Wall tool or Fence Tool is more appropriate since you aren't really trying to lower the ceiling. M.
  14. or Zipping it often helps get it below the 25mb limit
  15. Dennis is right , it would be better to make a single wall definition and draw it all as one ...only 1/2 the work. and windows and door should insert properly. I added a length of wall in your plan to the left of you test house so you can see what I mean , you can also add it to your library , it is the wall I use for Basement walls here . If you put a checkmark in the INS box in the Wall definition , CA will automatically put Insulation in that wall space. M. Test2walls_MH.plan
  16. Interesting Video Glenn , would you mind posting that Wall (Definition) , I'd like to see how it is setup, looks like a good technique, though Scott made some good point too I think.
  17. Part of the problem with this is that nothing is Documented, even with a 1300 page Ref. Manual, many topics are just glossed over, so you can't Learn about it ,or figure out the "hidden" links inside the Structure and many other DBX's in CA , which makes it even harder for New Users and I see why Johnny has made some of his comments as stuff like this can make you crazy , nevermind the fact you are losing money while trying to figure it out. @ Larry ...I wonder if this might have been a good case for the Edit>Reset to Defaults DBX , something I always forget about....
  18. hi Steve , for me at least the quickest way is to simply draw your own slab , as large as needed and then setting the slab's elevation at the same height as the Room's Floor ie -4 " in this case ,and then use the Slab footing Tool or Foundation Wall tool to draw your own foundation underneath it. In the Room DBX that the Slab footing creates turn off /uncheck the floor and the Roof/ceiling options on the Structure Tab and you should get this : your plan with the alterations: Porches and Porch Slab_MH.plan M.
  19. Larry, curious if your loop happens if " same height walls" isn't checked in the Build Roof DBX (I assume auto rebuild is on?) I too have run into weird issues like this, so I always do plenty of save as plans as I go , and step back if needed, but am definitely wondering what's going on since ,what if for example you want to change the kitchen/family room in a 1storey to be 10' and leave the rest 8',when Client changes their mind? Not going to work well ,if I am reading Joe right. M.
  20. Just to be clear you can also add Slab footings as needed manually if needed(slab footing tool, see ref.manual) , though I didn't need them above, I did add the garage foundation stem walls manually since nothing I did would bring them back. I then deleted the internal stem walls and footings and added a footing to those walls only via the wall's DBX. I think getting your defaults right and your room settings right before building anything is important and seems to be bourne out in another thread today on foundations too.....https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/6065-more-structure-dbx-challenges/page-2#entry53315 Hope this helps, M.
  21. you can use the Defaults Tool too for some things like cabinets see this article in the KB , lots of good info there .... I think there is a video on this too... http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00437/using-the-set-as-default-tool-to-change-cabinet-styles.html
  22. that is more or less automatic once you have the Carport and rear Porch setup for Monoslabs , I have played some more and the only way to get it all was to do stuff manually . like the footing only walls around the kitchen and the foundation wall under the carport and front entry... it seems the Chamfer on foundations only works on Monoslabs not footings too, so you would have to fix that in section views, unless someone else knows how to get it to work. here is the updated plan , I have saved cameras for you to open and look at , for eg. camera 10 shows some weird stuff around the rear porch walls , but I have never seen that effect before ...didn't think a slope topped wall was possible actually.... I setup a layerset (camera view-no walls) so you can see just the foundation and floor slab only so it's easier to see what's going on....not sure why the laundry wall footing doesn't show in some views but it is there in the Cross sections. 23. Uncheck Auto height in the Terrain Specs. DBX , then you can set the height yourself. do a SAVE AS of the .plan file and then delete things like fixtures and furniture ,cabinets, etc ---- eg interior stuff nobody needs to see for this issue. 3D plants and Trees also ad mb to the plan and aren't needed for terrain issues. M.
  24. Andrew Dale the owner of the 3D website got back to me and has fixed the fixed site above Hi Mick, Thanks for letting me know, much appreciated. This is the second time in the last 2 weeks someone has placed re-directs on the .html pages. I have cleaned all the pages so the site is back to normal. What I can't work out is how they are doing it, I can't find any access issues so I will keep an eye on it. Once again, many thanks for letting me know. Kind Regards Andrew Dale
  25. Rob , they just released a new Themador Library last week..
