  1. the Right hand Dormer? That is not a Floating Dormer, ( ie entirely in the Roof Plane) it is sitting over the Knee Wall/Exterior Wall. Manual Dormer is my guess , you'll need to notch the roof plane to let the wall come right up like i did above.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00449/creating-a-manual-dormer.html PS for Exterior Walls in Particular get into the Habit of changing the Wall Definition to change Materials , DON"T paint them as weirdness will ensue..... eg the Dormer walls above...I see four different exteriors on this house so far....
  2. Yes I am not sure either, whether Wall is inline with house wall (right) or if the Dormer is entirely in Roof (Left) as the Dormers as different... RH Dormer works with a 36x36 window 92" off the Floor.....
  3. Well that's a new one but yes it going to move the ceiling upto the 60" you input.... For some reason the Room in the Dormer is Auto set to open Room , just make it any other type even unspecified to get the floor back.
  4. Something appears to be not quite right in your plan..... may need to deal with this 1st ? Has the Roof moved or changed Pitch?
  5. You have a very limited Roof slope below the Ceiling line , so either you need a smaller window or you need to raise the area of the Dormer. Eric may have some other good ideas too depending on your "wants" as afar as the Dormer. M.
  6. Charles is correct , double callouts is an indication you have two Schedules in the Plan ( or Plan and a CAD Detail) M.
  7. the Auto Floating Dormer is trying to keep its' self in the Sloped part of the Ceiling , try the Create Room in Dormer Option in the Dormer DBX. you are moving the Window below the roof plane outside the dormer ...so I'm not surprised you see OSB etc..... M.
  8. I think this happens when you change Plank Direction but Keep Deck Framing is on , so you end up with two sets of deck boards (planks) , unchecking the Keep Option and Regenerating the Framing again should fix it. M.
  9. another review to consider perhaps ..depending on budget...... I know you like Desktop CPU's Mark so the Dell may interest you perhaps... M. https://amp.laptopmag.com/articles/alienware-area-51-vs-msi-gt75-titan
  10. That's where......best to post in the Q&A section as Eric said.
  11. Make sure to add a Foundation too....... and draw a Full Room even for a small interior only reno. A wrong wall definition , such as an interior wall used for exterior walls, I have also seen cause "light leakage" issues on Other's plans here on the Forum.
  12. It's one reason we suggest adding your Hardware Details to your Forum Signature..... especially when it comes to Raytracing or with X10 PBR views
  13. Elevations are a "camera view" in C.A.P , they are under the Menu/Icon left of the 3D Camera Views Icon Dimensions aren't Automatically in the View but there is an Auto Elevation Dimension Icon and a Auto-Storey Pole Tool too. Sounds like you got thrown in the Deep End....... May the Force be with you ! and Welcome to the Forum. M
  14. Looks like turning Auto Rebuild Roofs Off helps with the Rotation Issue of Purlins after saving a plan.... Thanks Michael.... M.
  15. Neil, every deck has the Option to KEEP DECK FRAMING if Room is deleted and Auto regenerate Decking is off.... not sure if that's just where things ended up but nothing would change visually as you hadn't triggered the regeneration of the deck framing at each change you made is what I think it was.... The left hand deck planks were still 75mm and the right hand end is was still set to 138mm......your default is set to 125mm though..... the Gaps are different too which also makes things look different. So I deleted the the Room dividers , reset the Deck Room Defaults , and then changed the 4 areas to the Defaults including Automatic direction for planks, and regenerated the Deck framing (includes planks which are now Teak btw ) in each of the 4 main Areas...then put the Room Dividers Back and I think it is all okay now. You could split the deck rooms differently so the planks are continuous on the long sides of the house too , the outer wider portions of deck would be their own "Rooms" then. The mis-alignment comes from CA starting the planks at the outer edge of each deck room (including overhang) and spacing back to the house ( same as in the real world.) Hopefully this is what you wanted..... MHD_Tracey's House Plan-Decking.plan
  16. Hmmmm...thanks but isn't that the Default setup after doing Purlins ? , So I guess I need to Turn Auto Rebuild Roofs Off then as turning Auto roof framing on again will cause the Purlins to disappear entirely. That's a bummer for sure , so Purlins definitely need to be done last thing then as far as the Roof structure goes. The plan is 4 or 5 posts up if interested... Mick
  17. I'll take a look Neil as it literally took as long as drawing 4 lines to fix it in the Plan of yours I had, so I am not sure what is up then.... M.
  18. Was playing with My posted plan above today and just about any change to the roof , including doing a Plan Undo, will cause the Purlins to rotate out of position, once it happens Undo and Redo won't fix it, and I haven't figured how to stop that, but the "Fix" is relatively easy , in Plan View (2D) ,select one and using the Match Properties Tool > Rafter lookout ( name or Object Type ) you can easily select the whole lot and then simply open the DBX and click OK........closing it is enough to reset them to the Roof Slope. the Worst Part of this is that Saving the Plan and Reopening it , is enough to cause the Purlins to Rotate "flat" in all Views **Plan above updated to full Building M. *** *** The Problem and Fix is in this Post. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/20877-roof-profiles/?do=findComment&comment=172239
  19. That seems weird...I'd have thought Interiors would definitely have NKBA annotations and Plans for sure....
  20. Those are the CA "Styles Templates" , not the Standard Plan Templates..... been I while since I did a Clean install but I believe in X10 it is now called the Kitchen and Bath Template.plan .......not NKBA Standards.Plan ( x9 and earlier) If you don't have it in the Chief Data Folder>Templates, Chief keeps a backup in the Installation Folder>Templates eg : C:\Program Files\Chief Architect\Chief Architect Premier X10 (64 bit)\Templates If you migrated to X10 , it should of brought the Templates forward though.
  21. No.... that one has bitten us all at some point.... get into the habit of naming every new plan when it 1st Opens , and hit Ctrl-S often... Without a Save , autosave does not work ( make sure it setup in Preferences) and Chief can't open it's own Undo.plan files unfortunately. M.
  22. That's one I can't answer Lew , no prizes for guessing how I found out about this myself..... Although they are Automatic Dims. it seems they must be manually deleted too, as Edit>Delete Objects is greyed out....( for CAD>Dims ) at least in this Plan. M.
  23. Jay is in Fairhaven , MA http://www.capecodhomedesign.net/ @Jay_on_Cape
  24. It's just Practice and playing around ...like most things.... was just trying to show/say , it's not quite as difficult as you think... will take you an hour of two if you wanted to do the whole house but that isn't always needed ,especially if you only need a few Crossections , just place the Premade Purlin so it's seen in the Section View and you are good to go , or a few over a Section of the Deck for Client Views etc. As for the Decking , assuming you want it to all run parallel to the house you will need to use Room Dividers to split the 2 U (C?) shaped deck rooms into 3 pieces each. Then you can Rotate each section independently, if needed , as drawing the Room Dividers may cause the planks to change direction auto, due to the Automatic Plank Direction Setting. *** yep that's what happened on all four Corners.....looks like you have two different sized Planks at each end and back vs Front though. ( yes 75mm LH and 138mm RH) M.
  25. Okay 6 minutes cos I've done it before , so 20mins if you watch Micheal's Video above 1st. Here's the Plan with a Purlin or two to save to your Library and some on the other side of the Roof to play with.... **Roof Purlins now completed for building. MHD_Purlins _Full_Setup Plan.plan ****Edit ..if you download this plan you will likely find the Purlins Rotated "flat" , you will need to select them all using Match Properties and Open the DBX , hit Ok and they will Reset. ( no known fix at this point) see 4 posts down.) *** The Problem and Fix is in this Post. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/20877-roof-profiles/?do=findComment&comment=172239
