  1. So, if you specify "roof trusses" in the structure tab of the roof build dialogue and specify zero inch heel height...the top chord of the truss sits at the outside edge of the wall main layer. Is this a bug...or, do we always have to specify a heel height when specifying trusses?
  2. You should be posting a copy of your Chief plan...not a DWG file. Thanks!
  3. It would be nice if we could have a “raise/lower off plate” setting in the wall DBX like we have for roof pitch.
  4. You solution seems like a lot more work in order to get Chief to auto build the roof you want. I like your first solution...just build the roof to default settings then make manual adjustment. Job done.
  5. I offer 1-1 training if interested. Check out my website - link is in my signature. www.mychiefskills.com
  6. Lisa - lots of little things going on in your plan. The dormer fix is very simple. Watch the video...should answer most of your questions. Well...I was going to upload the fixed file - but you are using X12 and I used X14. I'm sorry...I didn't notice this in your signature. The fixes are similar in X12 so I think if you watch the video you will be able to figure things out. Lisa - DefinedDesign - dormer fix and other things - Watch Video
  7. Yes…I pulled the walls out 18 inches. Chief won’t put a ceiling on the underside of the cantilevered area. You can use a molding polyline to add a soffit if you desire.
  8. Wall don't sit on top of roof planes...well, you can make it work but it's not worth the effort
  9. You need to mark the porch room to have a roof above...in the room dialogue. That will fix the boxed eave. Then...open the disformed gable end wall, go to the structure tab, and check "default wall top height".
  10. Don't use a roof plane. Just build another balcony room using railing walls. Use a molding polyline for the gutter.
  11. @Chrisb222 - Yea, I'm not sure if this is an Apple problem, such that Apples graphics hardware is extremely sub-par, or...is it that Chief is unable to justify the resources required to play in the Apple world. That's what it sounds like...but, it's hard to know. It doesn't matter that much to me (I hardly ever need RTRT) however, for MAC users that have invested 5K or more for a robust M1 or M2 Apple system it must really piss them off that this feature is not accessible to them.
  12. @Ryan-M - Thanks so much for that great explanation. Lots of things I did not know.
  13. You could use landings for the first two steps/treads. For the railing wall...the sloped section should be a railing pony wall.
  14. There's just too many steps to just write it down. If I get time I'll make you a short video...no promises.
  15. Not totally sure what the issue is...but, I deleted the deck roof. Redrew the roof and placed a new skylight and it worked fine.
  16. @Cadwork22 Here you go; Kinzler1 - fixed.plan.zip
  17. You can zip the file...or create an example plan and post that.
  18. @LevisL - I don’t believe that RTRT is supported for the MAC. That could be the reason your renders don’t look great. Apple uses “metal” as their graphics engine and I don’t believe Chief has optimized their software to use this. I could be mistaken….maybe someone from Chief could jump in here and set us all straight?
  19. It’s not that the M1 or M2 can’t produce RTRT…Chief hasn’t written their software to take advantage of the ARM chip design. Other rendering software companies have done the work and written their software to work with Apple…still waiting for Chief. But - in X15 we can make custom arrows! Wooo!
  20. I gave it a shot...here's an example plan you should study. You need a 2nd floor. Part of the 2nd floor is "open to below". Make sure your walls have room definition. Adjust your roof pitches as needed...I just guessed at what you want. Brocks Tiny House-My Chief Skills v1.plan
  21. @doitright - We need a bit more info than you have provided. Using a 12/12 pitch roof over the the main 8'-6" wide room does not provide head room needed for a loft floor above. Also...you attached a PDF of the floor plan but no picture of what you are trying to accomplish. That would help...
  22. @Renerabbitt - thanks for the inside info on the path Chief is going. I feel better now knowing this bit of info.
  23. No..the tool now appears on the Edit Toolbar when you click a roof plane...see screen clip below. It's a 3-step process.
  24. Here's my thing. The library improvements are fine...not arguing that. However, I've probably seen a dozen or more posts over the past year or two about improving the deck framing tools. I mean...there is a plethora of improvements this tool needs...but, completely ignored. Instead...we get a library search tool that I wasn't an immediate need...and I don't think many of us have has asked for.
  25. I always try auto roofs...but, I'm fast at doing roofs manually...so, I usually give up if I don't get what I want and just place the roof planes manually.
