  1. You can create the beams using the solid tool...and solids can be shaped like a polyline. Draw them in plan view...set desired width, depth. Rotate the solid to 45 degrees. The pull the end into the corner from the middle of the beam. Then, using the #3 key, put a break in the end of the solid and pull the sides to align with the ceiling.
  2. The simplest fix is as "TeaTime" has posted..."use the soffit for surface" that is provided in the room specification. However, this will reduce the size of your rafters. Another method is to increase the size of the gable sub fascia to that of the rafter size and accordingly increase the size of the gable fascia. You should also increase the thickness of the soffit to match that of the ceiling...or, vice versa...change the room ceiling to match the thickness of the soffit.

  8. It appears your roof defaults were set to use "trusses"...not "rafters" - Open the build roof dialogue and check to use "rafters". - Then rebuild the roof framing. It should change automatically. Make sure you have "rafters" turned on in your layer set.
  9. The reason you don't have a frieze on the front elevation is the roof over the front entry (left side) is not extended to the surface of the brick on the two story section. The area that isn't a room is due to the fact that some of the walls that surround the space are designated "no room definition"...just uncheck this for the walls that surround the space and it will become a room with a floor and ceiling.
  10. Tired of struggling along with Chief and want to supercharge your skills...well, maybe some 1:1 training will help. Most all of us on this forum have at one time or another paid for some help learning Chief. I have trained more than a hundred different users...some just once, others many times. I use zoom and record the sessions. I share my screen and go through the processes needed showing you how to accomplish specific tasks. You can learn more by visiting my website here; https://www.mychiefskills.com

I also have a YouTube page...and there are a number of videos related to dormers that may help you get started. Feel free to email me here; steve@mychiefskills.com Website: www.mychiefskills.com
  15. It can be done... I used an invisible wall to create the room that extends beyound the face of your brick entry wall. I did make a new wall type (a copy of brick-4). In this new wall I adjusted the brick ledge depth to zero. I also specified to build the platform (the concrete floor) to the brick layer. The new "room" has no ceiling or roof specified. Rooms are the key...they control most everything in Chief.
  16. @robdyck - you are so correct. Fast and simple...
  17. Oh…I see now you want two panels of different size. Yea…custom. You could make it quick using cabinets to create a symbol.
  18. You should have this in the bonus catalog...
  19. @luckyudesign - This is how I'd do it. I've attached your plan so you can review/comment. Luckyu_PorchCeilingQuestion.plan
  20. Thomas - Have you watched the "roof basics" series of videos in the Chief Training Videos: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5447/roof-basics.html?playlist=95 Good place to start. You are working on a difficult roof for someone just starting to work with Chief. You might want to create a new plan...and just practice the basics.
  21. @JuneberryMarket - what version of Chief are you using?
  22. Oh...yea, you need to put your signature in the forum. Everything I did to your roof can be accomplished in X13. Nothing is unique in X15.
