  1. I don't do a lot of "split level" homes...or even homes with all sorts of level changes. Just not that popular in "flat as a pancake" Indiana. But...none the less, I don't find the structure DBX that difficult to work with. Oh...occasionally I've wanted to take a stick of dynamite to the software...but, mostly it works and I can figure things out. I doubt there is a piece of residential software on the market that doesn't have similar issues. Actually...the stair tool is what normally brings out my frustration with Chief. Again in X11 the guru's at Chief throw us a little bone of improvement with the hope that it'll keep us happy for 2 more years. And...it probably will. I'll just design ranch homes...
  2. @BFogarty I think you will have to check the box on the "deck" tab to "automatically regenerate deck framing"...which will change the deck material.
  3. I'm wondering if this is a glitch in X11. Attached is a picture showing the dialogue box of a "doorway" that has no casing or jamb. Was supposed to be a drywall wrapped opening... Why is there no "preview" picture in the DBX? Is this the way it always was?

    Notes

I'd love to see a video from Chief...or one of the experts on here showing how to setup and used NOTES effectively. I'm surprised Chief wasn't prepared with a load of new X11 videos to help us all get a jump start.
  5. I did use the Library Import Button...imports fine. Some of the textures associated with the materials are not coming over.
  6. Same result...maybe someone else should try downloading. Maybe I'm screwing something up.
  7. Still missing texture file in: - Ceiling Gyp - Oak Plank Floor - Wall Textured Gypsum Board The Alder Cabinet material is really nice...
  8. 5131 Calacatta-Ceasarstone ALDER DEFAULT CABINET Ceiling Gyp Bd Oak Plank Floor Wall Textured Gypsum Board
  9. Quoted you above so you would see this post; I downloaded your "Starter Kitchen Material Package" from your "X11 Ongoing Symbols Thread"...but I'm getting a "texture missing" on a number of the materials. Is this correct? I love the recessed light you created...works fantastic. The subway tile is great also...
  10. I made "manual" changes to the roof. See attached. Roof issue - fixed.plan
  11. Oh...yea, I see that now. I watched it mostly on my iPhone and never saw the YouTube symbol. Weird...ok, sorry about that.
  12. Ok...but your video on PBR was much longer than 3 min
  13. Not really...but I’ll work on something and post later. Thanks
  14. Your video on PBR shows the possibilities. However most of what you went over was too advanced for me. Needless to say...but i was amazed. Also...I’m always torn about the value of spending a lot of time on rendering scenes. Seems like I waste a lot of time trying to get things just right...but can’t be compensated for the effort required. I would like you to do short videos that explain some of the basics...such as “what is an ambient occlusion map and how do you create one”. Then, where do you store the maps you have created. Same with the other maps. How do you create...what they do...and where do you keep them on your computer. Basic stuff...start at the beginning. One more thing. How do you post a video on Chief Talk without posting to YouTube? Thanks for doing a great video. Very eye opening.
  15. lower wall shows for me...make sure your settings for "pony wall" are correct.
  16. Yes...I completely agree with you. That’s the way to do it.
  17. You could...try putting it right to the intersection of the two walls. You will get a piece of glass return. It’s just not accurate. Your example is perfect if the opening is off the corner.
  18. Did a quick video how to make this railing for you...hope it helps.
  19. You might try downloading one the Chief Architect sample plans...such as the "Lake Point" or the "Grandview". Look at the layout page that is included and find the sections they created...open the view and examine the layer set that they used to create the view. I think they start with the Section View set...copy it, then modify it to show just what they want to see.
  20. All you need to do is "re-frame" your roof...and the section will be correct. You might want to turn on "automatic" roof framing? Here I've built all the framing...roof, walls and floors....and then turned those layers on in the Section View layer set.
  21. Create the section elevation view. Then, copy the associated layer set that is being used for the view. It's probably the layer that is standard out of box (OOB). Rename the new layer set as something else such as " Section View, No Walls"...or whatever you are trying to do. Then edit that layer set and turn on or off the layers you want to see for the view you are trying to create. The answer to what you see is learning how to control and design layer sets.
  22. Good try Eric...but, Chief X whatever still doesn't work well for things like this. The 2D plan view is not what I would want...and the corner with the glass return showing is not what I would want if there isn't a door in the opening. If there was a door...well, possibly.
  23. I have to disagree with Dermot. I wish he were correct...but the software just doesn't work the way he thinks it does. Watch my video...which I did in X11 for insights. Maybe I've goofed...if I have please tell me what I can do to make the software do what I want it to do. I'm not saying I'm some kind of expert...truly.
  24. Well...I disagree just a little. Unfortunately a wall cap...applied via the half wall Dbx does not extend at the end of the wall...just along the sides. Using a specific wall type with needed layers is fine but the ends of this type of wall definition usually won’t finish with tile. I’m not at my computer to confirm this...but this is what I recall and why I went with the single wall layer of tile.
