  1. I've been investigating the plan...and I'm confused by the main entry hall. You want a 16' ceiling. You have the 1st floor clg height in this room set to the default ceiling height...which is 16'. So, then you add a 2nd floor with a ceiling height. Why? Why not just keep it all on the 1st floor with attic walls? Maybe because you are adding windows... I'm still looking at the plan but thought I'd mention this.
  2. Just guessing really...but, it might be due to a ceiling height not being set to "default"....
  3. Lance - you need to make sure you have your toolbar "Checked" in the associated "VIEW". See attached picture...
  4. Bob, I've attached my plan that I created in the video. You can use it as a reference... A roof plane is nothing more than a polyline (in plan view). You should be able to select an edge and drag it. If not, then maybe you have the layer locked? The #2 key I reference in the video is used to "join" together two roof planes. You click the ridge of one roof plane, then push #2 key, then click the ridge of the roof you want to join it with. Same goes for valleys and hips. Federal Style Parapet Roof Design.plan
  5. Saw a post on Chief Talk recently that got my attention so I thought I'd make a video. Hope you learn a thing or two. Also...not sure if the style is "Federal"...I'm guessing. Maybe someone on this Forum knows for sure what style this home is.
  6. Your post got me interested in this type of design...so, I made a video. Apologies for the length...but, it takes a bit to build this and explain at the same time. Hope it helps!
  7. Very nice...thanks for posting!
  8. Could you post a sample plan?
  9. Tommy- can you post your example plan. We’d love to see how you accomplished this “look”
  10. OK...well, my "fill" wasn't working for some odd reason. I changed the color and "boom"...all fixed. Must've been a Chief gremlin. thanks very much. And your roof videos are fantastic...I always learn something.
  11. Eric...how to you get the "green" fill in your roof planes. I've searched...and have not been able to duplicate. I know I can give a roof plane a "fill" after the plane is drawn...but, I like how your roof planes are filled as you are creating them. Thanks!
  12. Eric is a guru! Yes...even on my "test" plan the railing walls were not aligned and so I generated the same error. Just align the main layers of all walls and all is good. Thanks Eric!
  13. I just duplicated your plan using my own template...and I got the same result. Something isn't working. I'd say you found a bug. Please report to Chief Tech support...
  14. You should post the plan... Also...where do you want this gable roof? Do you want it located above the 2nd floor plate...or at first floor line to enclose the porch (this would be a bad idea...)
  15. Thanks Eric. That is exactly how I have it now. I was just trying to see if there was a way to get the screen in the rafter center (or close) thanks all for the tips and suggestions.
  16. I’ve already got a roof with screen as the ceiling surface...I was just wondering if it was possible to get the screen in the center of the rafter. I think the solution is to copy the roof I have “in place”...then use transform/replicate and move it up or down as needed. And some other editing too. And yes...I should have posted a plan.
  17. Good idea. I will give it a try. Thanks!
  18. Is there a way to accomplish a roof section as shown in the using the roof and ceiling tools in Chief X11? What I would like it to have the screen in the roof align near the top chord of the rafter. I know I can use P-Solids...just wondering if there was a more "automatic" method that I'm missing. Thanks!
  19. I I created some door symbols and placed them in the interior corner...I guessed that is where you wanted them. Plan is attached...hope it helps. Shoal Exterior 052319 - with doors.plan
  20. Here is a video that explains how to create corner "nana" type doors. Video was created by "David Michael"...excellent video and I think it will answer your question.
  21. Any wall can be curved in a click or two...see pic below. Draw a wall, select the wall, click the "curve" wall button on the bottom bar. Done. Shape the curve as needed or open the DBX and specify the exact radius. Select lock ends...or lock center.
  22. Just FYI. This roof isn’t easy for someone that knows how to build roofs...and use the software. Also...this roof is really not the greatest design. However I realize you are just trying to duplicate the builders plans.
  23. Can you give us some specs regarding this design? Such as; desired general ceiling height, how tall the garage ceilings are...and how much the garage floor drops. Is there a 2nd floor or just very tall attics? And...anything else you can think of.
  24. Oh, I’m not trying to be snarky. I’ve been exactly where you were....many times. Lots of people here to help you out.
