  1. Scott - Just wondering...why are you building the fireplace and hearth the way you are? I would have just used P-Solids and called it a day. Is this an experiment?
  2. Use a CAD polyline with a fill for your foundation plan view and put this CAD polyline on a unique layer that you can turn on/off depending on the view you are sending to Layout. I think this is the only way to accomplish this task until Chief gives us a solution. There is a set of plans that Joey Martin did that Chief has on their "examples" page...Joey does a lot of basements. You might be able to see what he did by looking at this plan set.
  3. Video that shows one method of creating a stair railing that meets the end of a stud wall...something we wish Chief had fixed for X11 Experts may have some other solutions...but this works well enough until Chief gives us a stair tool that works...
  4. If it were me...I'd adjust my Layer Set first, copy a set that is similar and give it a new name; Then create the unique annotations that are needed for the new plan view...I'd get the plan looking and working exactly the way I want it to, color, fonts, text etc...then, click the "save plan view as" icon. Say you are using your "Floor Plan" plan view. It's working just fine....but, you create a foundation from the floor plan. Now you are looking at a foundation view...using your "Floor Plan" plan view set. Open the "active defaults" and create a new layer set called "foundation plan layer set"...change any other item such as rich text, text, line color and weight, etc.. You may have to experiment to get exactly what you want. Then, click the "save as" plan view button. I think that's all you need to do. The one thing that always gets me is that Chief warns that the view has changed..."do you want to save it". This is weird...because you just created and "saved as" a new view. So...maybe it's a bit quirky. I'm not an expert on Plan Views...still learning like the rest of you. But, this is how I think it works...
  5. I updated my Mac system software and all seems good.
  6. I don't think so...not if all Plan Views are using the same layer set. If you turn it off on one plan view...then that item will be off in all plan views using the same layer set. Actually, Michael (aka Alaskan_Son) stated this in a previous post about Plan Views and Anno Sets. You really don't need Anno Sets...just change your "active defaults" and save the plan view with a unique name. That's all you need to do. At first I thought he was wrong...stupid me...turns out he is absolutely correct. Just modify your Active Defaults....
  7. Now that is brilliant...thanks for the tip
  8. Wondering if anyone else is having this issue. When I use the "full camera"...the view looks fine at first, but after a few minutes...and jumping back and forth to the plan...when I return to the full view there is a horizontal line right in the center of my screen. I changed the color theme...and the color of the line changed also. And...I don't seem to have this problem in any other software I'm running. I'm on a MAC. I've used Chief from version X6...never had this issue before. See pictures below...
  9. Just a quick video on how to create a deck railing panel symbol...
  10. MEGA DITTO HERE! Michael's posts have always improved my ability to use Chief. Thanks!
  11. Thanks for that info...much appreciated. It doesn’t sound like a glitch...it’s consistent behavior. I’m satisfied.
  12. Just did a test in X10...made a drywall wrapped opening, placed in library. Clicked on the library object...no preview. So...maybe this has always been the case. I really don't know...seems odd really.
  13. I don’t think this was the case in prior versions. I made these openings in X11...so that can’t be the reason.
  14. Still having a problem. I have placed specific sized drywall wrapped openings in my library. As you can see in Picture #1...there is no "preview" of this opening in the Library Preview panel. Also...when I clic "open object" for the library object...there isn't a preview in the DBX. Also...the show wall button is not in the tool bar....not even an option. So is this a glitch?
  15. Well...if you look at the picture in my first post the "show wall" button does not appear. Not sure why. However, now it does appear. See attached picture. So...not sure what I did different. Or...if the software just fixed itself...not likely.
  16. I don't do a lot of "split level" homes...or even homes with all sorts of level changes. Just not that popular in "flat as a pancake" Indiana. But...none the less, I don't find the structure DBX that difficult to work with. Oh...occasionally I've wanted to take a stick of dynamite to the software...but, mostly it works and I can figure things out. I doubt there is a piece of residential software on the market that doesn't have similar issues. Actually...the stair tool is what normally brings out my frustration with Chief. Again in X11 the guru's at Chief throw us a little bone of improvement with the hope that it'll keep us happy for 2 more years. And...it probably will. I'll just design ranch homes...
  17. @BFogarty I think you will have to check the box on the "deck" tab to "automatically regenerate deck framing"...which will change the deck material.
  18. I'm wondering if this is a glitch in X11. Attached is a picture showing the dialogue box of a "doorway" that has no casing or jamb. Was supposed to be a drywall wrapped opening... Why is there no "preview" picture in the DBX? Is this the way it always was?

    Notes

I'd love to see a video from Chief...or one of the experts on here showing how to setup and used NOTES effectively. I'm surprised Chief wasn't prepared with a load of new X11 videos to help us all get a jump start.
  20. I did use the Library Import Button...imports fine. Some of the textures associated with the materials are not coming over.
  21. Same result...maybe someone else should try downloading. Maybe I'm screwing something up.
  22. Still missing texture file in: - Ceiling Gyp - Oak Plank Floor - Wall Textured Gypsum Board The Alder Cabinet material is really nice...
