  1. You can use the "place library object" button...and assign some hatches and put them on a custom toolbar...or just put them on a toolbar you always use. I do have to agree with Larry on this one...this "new" feature does not advance the ball. It's cumbersome...and not intuitive. When you go to the hatch pattern and your looking for an angle hatch (standard...use every day)...and there isn't anything there you think to yourself...what the hell? Where did it go....
  2. Here is a video "correction" that shows how to use "stacked moldings" and assign different materials to each component. Thanks Eric...and Glenn. Stacked Moldings are a powerful tool...that I wish I had know about a little sooner. Not sure how I missed that one...
  3. I did not know this...thanks Eric and Glenn. Amazing...5 years using this crazy software and learning knew stuff every day.
  4. Eric...you can't "stack" moldings in the "Sill" DBX...so no way to paint them different colors. If you use a molding line you can stack moldings and also have the benefit of being able to paint each component a unique color...but, not in the window "sill" DBX which only allows a single molding component.
  5. Yep...that works. But...talk about time consuming. What if you had 10 windows to do...different widths and heights. You'd be a molding expert by the time your we're done. It would be better if Chief just "fixed" this little mistake...
  6. @solver thanks for your expert tips. Didn’t know you could paint stacked molding with different materials. Learning continues...
  7. How to make brick sill moldings in Chief X11...
  8. Don't move on yet...I did a video. Also, attached a plan. Maybe it will help you...not sure I did exactly what you were looking for...but, I did get the shelf ceiling to work. But...it takes effort. If I was getting paid to to this...I'd reach for the P-Solid tool. Heres is a video related to the attached plan...Scott Hall Shelf Ceiling .plan
  9. Why? What is the benefit to modeling like you "build it" if it takes all day to accomplish the task? Obviously, Chief isn't helping you out with this one... Is there something you are giving your client from this process...like a list of materials or something. I'm not trying to be a smart ass...I'm asking for my own benefit and to learn. Is this something your clients expect from you?
  10. Scott - Just wondering...why are you building the fireplace and hearth the way you are? I would have just used P-Solids and called it a day. Is this an experiment?
  11. Use a CAD polyline with a fill for your foundation plan view and put this CAD polyline on a unique layer that you can turn on/off depending on the view you are sending to Layout. I think this is the only way to accomplish this task until Chief gives us a solution. There is a set of plans that Joey Martin did that Chief has on their "examples" page...Joey does a lot of basements. You might be able to see what he did by looking at this plan set.
  12. Video that shows one method of creating a stair railing that meets the end of a stud wall...something we wish Chief had fixed for X11 Experts may have some other solutions...but this works well enough until Chief gives us a stair tool that works...
  13. If it were me...I'd adjust my Layer Set first, copy a set that is similar and give it a new name; Then create the unique annotations that are needed for the new plan view...I'd get the plan looking and working exactly the way I want it to, color, fonts, text etc...then, click the "save plan view as" icon. Say you are using your "Floor Plan" plan view. It's working just fine....but, you create a foundation from the floor plan. Now you are looking at a foundation view...using your "Floor Plan" plan view set. Open the "active defaults" and create a new layer set called "foundation plan layer set"...change any other item such as rich text, text, line color and weight, etc.. You may have to experiment to get exactly what you want. Then, click the "save as" plan view button. I think that's all you need to do. The one thing that always gets me is that Chief warns that the view has changed..."do you want to save it". This is weird...because you just created and "saved as" a new view. So...maybe it's a bit quirky. I'm not an expert on Plan Views...still learning like the rest of you. But, this is how I think it works...
  14. I updated my Mac system software and all seems good.
  15. I don't think so...not if all Plan Views are using the same layer set. If you turn it off on one plan view...then that item will be off in all plan views using the same layer set. Actually, Michael (aka Alaskan_Son) stated this in a previous post about Plan Views and Anno Sets. You really don't need Anno Sets...just change your "active defaults" and save the plan view with a unique name. That's all you need to do. At first I thought he was wrong...stupid me...turns out he is absolutely correct. Just modify your Active Defaults....
  16. Now that is brilliant...thanks for the tip
  17. Wondering if anyone else is having this issue. When I use the "full camera"...the view looks fine at first, but after a few minutes...and jumping back and forth to the plan...when I return to the full view there is a horizontal line right in the center of my screen. I changed the color theme...and the color of the line changed also. And...I don't seem to have this problem in any other software I'm running. I'm on a MAC. I've used Chief from version X6...never had this issue before. See pictures below...
  18. Just a quick video on how to create a deck railing panel symbol...
  19. MEGA DITTO HERE! Michael's posts have always improved my ability to use Chief. Thanks!
  20. Thanks for that info...much appreciated. It doesn’t sound like a glitch...it’s consistent behavior. I’m satisfied.
  21. Just did a test in X10...made a drywall wrapped opening, placed in library. Clicked on the library object...no preview. So...maybe this has always been the case. I really don't know...seems odd really.
  22. I don’t think this was the case in prior versions. I made these openings in X11...so that can’t be the reason.
  23. Still having a problem. I have placed specific sized drywall wrapped openings in my library. As you can see in Picture #1...there is no "preview" of this opening in the Library Preview panel. Also...when I clic "open object" for the library object...there isn't a preview in the DBX. Also...the show wall button is not in the tool bar....not even an option. So is this a glitch?
  24. Well...if you look at the picture in my first post the "show wall" button does not appear. Not sure why. However, now it does appear. See attached picture. So...not sure what I did different. Or...if the software just fixed itself...not likely.
