  1. Using cabinets seems to be the way to go...here is a link to a Chief Architect Video: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/825/create-wainscoting-using-cabinet-symbols.html
  2. Just a quickie video about how to display pony walls with plan views. Did not go into depth. Chief Architect did an excellent video on the topic which goes into more detail...and if this is something you do often you should go to the Chief Videos page and watch their video on Pony Walls. Here is a link to CA video: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5226/displaying-pony-walls-in-layout.html
  3. Did a video...experts feel free to comment. I'm just grasping this concept...thanks to Perry and Michael for there expertise!
  4. Thanks Perry...that was eye opening. And...that will save me a ton of work! Yes...I tested. You can create unique plan views that show just the "foundation"...and another that shows the frame wall on top of the stem walls. Wooo! Love it. This is such a common building practice where I live in Indiana. Many developers here in Hamilton County create lots that are "daylight" basement type lots...where you would have a pony wall along the rear wall...and maybe up the sides. The builders love them because they can offer finished area's in the lower level that look and feel much like the main level. Very common...and now, because of the genius that is this forum...much easier for me to draw. Thanks everyone...
  5. Thanks for posting that foundation plan example Michael. I get it now. For me it's a bit weird to draw the foundation plan on level zero...and the basement floor plan on level 1...and then, the first floor plan on level 2. But...it does allow for you to send the plans correctly to layout and show the layers needed for each plan. Very creative...thanks again.
  6. Good suggestions Michael...but, how does this help when you want to create a building or wall section?
  7. Larry here is the plan...I played around with it, created unique layers for each plan view. However, plan views do not control the wall you see in a pony wall. I'm not sure how to accomplish this...so, if someone knows...please post an explanation. Thanks. Foundation Pony Wall Plan.plan
  8. The gap under the brick sill molding can be fixed easily. Just use a "stack molding". You can assign unique materials to each molding in a "stack" molding profile. Assign the "course brick" material to the sill (molding #1 in pic)...and assign the "standard" brick texture to the molding you used to "fill the gap" (molding #2 in pic). You can then assign this "sill" molding to your window default if you are doing a design where the windows are mostly in brick walls...then every window will come into your plan with the sill just the way you want it...
  9. YouTube channel is listed in my signature...
  10. Yea...I realized after posting that I had not created a unique layer set. I’m still not sure that you can control the pony wall display with a layer set. More exploration required...
  11. I don't think plan views control how pony walls are displayed...if someone thinks they do...please post something we can learn from. I think my video shows/explains what the OP wants to accomplish...
  12. You should watch the two videos I posted about brick sill. Might help...see this post.
  13. I experimented with this to see if it could be controlled by "plan views". I don't think you can. Also, can someone explain to me why when I have selected "upper wall"...the upper wall does not show. I get this dashed line showing the inner line of the upper pony wall.
  14. I've been messing around in my toolbars and must have deleted something the wrong way? I get this warning now every time I try to "customize toolbars"... Can someone tell me what I need to do to get rid of this warning...thanks!
  15. You can use the "place library object" button...and assign some hatches and put them on a custom toolbar...or just put them on a toolbar you always use. I do have to agree with Larry on this one...this "new" feature does not advance the ball. It's cumbersome...and not intuitive. When you go to the hatch pattern and your looking for an angle hatch (standard...use every day)...and there isn't anything there you think to yourself...what the hell? Where did it go....
  16. Here is a video "correction" that shows how to use "stacked moldings" and assign different materials to each component. Thanks Eric...and Glenn. Stacked Moldings are a powerful tool...that I wish I had know about a little sooner. Not sure how I missed that one...
  17. I did not know this...thanks Eric and Glenn. Amazing...5 years using this crazy software and learning knew stuff every day.
  18. Eric...you can't "stack" moldings in the "Sill" DBX...so no way to paint them different colors. If you use a molding line you can stack moldings and also have the benefit of being able to paint each component a unique color...but, not in the window "sill" DBX which only allows a single molding component.
  19. Yep...that works. But...talk about time consuming. What if you had 10 windows to do...different widths and heights. You'd be a molding expert by the time your we're done. It would be better if Chief just "fixed" this little mistake...
  20. @solver thanks for your expert tips. Didn’t know you could paint stacked molding with different materials. Learning continues...
  21. How to make brick sill moldings in Chief X11...
  22. Don't move on yet...I did a video. Also, attached a plan. Maybe it will help you...not sure I did exactly what you were looking for...but, I did get the shelf ceiling to work. But...it takes effort. If I was getting paid to to this...I'd reach for the P-Solid tool. Heres is a video related to the attached plan...Scott Hall Shelf Ceiling .plan
  23. Why? What is the benefit to modeling like you "build it" if it takes all day to accomplish the task? Obviously, Chief isn't helping you out with this one... Is there something you are giving your client from this process...like a list of materials or something. I'm not trying to be a smart ass...I'm asking for my own benefit and to learn. Is this something your clients expect from you?
