Well...I was able to do it without a 3rd floor. I did have to use a P-solid to fill a wall opening in the stairwell to the attic. It works...I guess. Maybe someone smarter than me will have a better solution. Hope it's helpful to you... Orphanos Foundation Renovations-steve fix stair 2.plan

Take this as a "guess" as I've have not tried this. To get that stair to go from the 2nd floor to the "attic"...I think you should "insert" a new "3rd" floor. Someone better at stairs than me may have a better suggestion. Attics are just a pain to deal with.

See attached plan...I think it should be self explanatory. I did not use the "u-shaped" stair tool. I just drew the stairs using the "draw stair" tool and then snapped a landing in between each stair. I added the "break line" to each stair to make the appearance better. Hope this helps you out. If you put the interior walls on a unique layer...such as "Wallls, Normal - INTERIOR" you can turn them off or on as needed. Or...do the same with the exterior walls...just put them on a unique layer that you can control. In the attached "perspective floor overview" pictures...you see the standard view and then the view after I have turned off the interior wall layer, doors, windows and moldings. Not the greatest view...leaves holes in the floor and wall surfaces. Just an idea...good luck.

Mick- I like how you used railing walls instead of building a 2nd floor. Much easier to control not only the height of the rails...but, also, far fewer attic walls to deal with. Nice job....

Alan - Your plan was difficult to "fix"...so, I created a plan schematic to try to model what you were trying to model. It's tough...that's for sure. (at least for me) The attached plan isn't dimensioned...it's just a rough schematic. However, it will give you clues how to accomplish what I think you are trying to do. The building is a mix of single and two story. I've also put a "roof" coping on the stem walls. The reason for this is for looks..but, also it keeps these walls from growing taller even if the room height is increased. The roof coping cuts off the walls at a specific height. One thing you will find you need to do a lot of is to fix wall corner intersections. I did a lot of that to get things to look good. I also created new wall types...my stem walls have stucco on the inside and outside above the roof. You might be too far along to "change" your current drawing but feel free to refer to my plan and maybe you can easily pick up an idea or two. Hope it helps. Test 060619 - Steve Suggestions.plan

I think I have an issue with my "template" plan as I cannot get walls located above invisible walls to build correctly. The wall in the attached plan is where the ceiling transitions from 12' tall to a room with a 9' tall ceiling. I attempted the same drawing in a stock Chief template plan and everything worked like it's supposed to...so, I gather I have a setting in my template plan that is goofy... Thanks! I'm on a MAC...and have experienced the same issue. I had the issue since at least X9. Gave up keeping the Object Layer Display window open on 2nd monitor and call up with hotkey...it works.

I've been investigating the plan...and I'm confused by the main entry hall. You want a 16' ceiling. You have the 1st floor clg height in this room set to the default ceiling height...which is 16'. So, then you add a 2nd floor with a ceiling height. Why? Why not just keep it all on the 1st floor with attic walls? Maybe because you are adding windows... I'm still looking at the plan but thought I'd mention this.

Just guessing really...but, it might be due to a ceiling height not being set to "default"....

Lance - you need to make sure you have your toolbar "Checked" in the associated "VIEW". See attached picture...

Bob, I've attached my plan that I created in the video. You can use it as a reference... A roof plane is nothing more than a polyline (in plan view). You should be able to select an edge and drag it. If not, then maybe you have the layer locked? The #2 key I reference in the video is used to "join" together two roof planes. You click the ridge of one roof plane, then push #2 key, then click the ridge of the roof you want to join it with. Same goes for valleys and hips. Federal Style Parapet Roof Design.plan

Saw a post on Chief Talk recently that got my attention so I thought I'd make a video. Hope you learn a thing or two. Also...not sure if the style is "Federal"...I'm guessing. Maybe someone on this Forum knows for sure what style this home is.
