  1. After taking another look at the picture ,if you look back to the off set at the left side it is obvious that the chimneys are flush with the lower walls and the dormers extend out to the point of contact with the roof. The facia and Gutter give a slight illusion that the dormers are set back. Ken
  2. I go with Joe, The floor extends out and the rafters sit on the edge of this floor and the dormer walls are flush with the floor band at this point. Just did an asbuilt of this very situation. The folks bought the house and didn't like the Mansard roof .House had walls that went to the point of the upper roof. Removed sloped lower roof and cut joists back to flush with lower wall then over framed upper roof with a stepper pitch to achieve the colonial look the client was going for. Also a few other things but I think you can see where we went with this project. Have a great week ,Ken
  3. I don't keep time on my projects anymore. Did when I first started and charged by the hour but had a couple clients that wanted to question the time so just charge by square ft and extent of the job. That way the client knows up front what it is going to cost and I know what I am going to have coming in. Charge half up front and rest on completion of job. That seperates the serious from the shopers and info seekers. Have a great Week,Ken
  4. Thanks Michael, Looks great. Have a great weekend, Ken

  8. Larry, I had this problem this week and after not being able to open x-7 to work on a plan I had started in X-7 called teck support and answer was to open task manager and it showed X-7 open .Closed it in task manager and clicked on X-7 icon and hit run as administrator. Opened with no problem that way. Hope this works for you, Have a great week ,Ken

  12. Joe, I have found that your procedure and the changes made from start to finish as you point out are something I can count on about 90% of the times. As to Scott's videos I found them a great educational tool and I have been using Chief since ver-3 and found lots of tips I had missed along the way. Have a great week, Ken
  13. Maybe I am not following this correct, but in the original post it was said that he had the roof planes coming together correctly but wanted the birds mouth to be the same to make the ceilings match. In my world this will not be possible . You cannot use rafters of 2"x8"s and tie into a roof with 2"x6"s and have the roof plane and the ceiling plane both match. The only option to get the matching birds mouth is to lower the wall to make up for the vertical difference between the two different rafters which will still leave you with an offset in the ceiling. Just another one of those things where you have to make a decision as to what is the most acceptable results. Have a great evening to all,Ken
  14. David, I have a designjet 500 and have gone to windows 10 and have had no problems. Had this printer cleaned and a new cable installed last winter and asked the guy then about win 10 and he said then it would be OK but that hp is going to suspend support of this model soon.Ordered another cable at that time to be sure I could make as much out of this machine as possible. The guy told me the 500 has been just to good a machine. Have a great week end coming up,Ken

  19. Perry That sounds like the ticket. Just finished a job that it would have been a great tool to have.. I do as Andy said he does in post #8.A two story full basement with mansard roof. Exterior and interior walls, window and door locations and sizes , floor heights, joist and rafter sizes, and roof pitch. Plan was to remove the mansard exterior roof/wall, overbuild the existing upper roof with a raftered steeper roof and add a second floor over the existing two car garage and add a porch/foyer for a colonial look. About twelve hours and house is drawn. Did remodel and addition as second plan on desktop at home. Have a great weekend,Ken
