  1. I also had a problem yesterday. Got it now. Thanks! (what WAS that location???)
  2. Create an opening the size you need in the base cabinet. Place the microwave in plan view on floor adjust height and move into the cabinet opening.
  3. On the other hand it can be a benefit to be able to see the trim details better. IAE now you have two options. ;o)
  4. My guess is that it has to do with vector view versus rendered view. Probably not much can be done with vector line drawing.
  5. Why not download the trial version and play with the renderings and ray tracing. You can't save anything but you will see how much easier it is in the new version.
  6. Jon - you know it really pays to read and comprehend the WHOLE post. I totally missed that he was outsourcing. DOH! I think I was a little taxed from just coming in from shoveling snow! ;o(
  7. Jon - I noticed the commercial building but also that he was using 9.5 and POV. So that is why I referred to the improvements in the newer versions. IF he is doing commercial in 9.5 with POV then X6,7 will be a huge improvement.
  8. Do you also have a native built in video card? See if X7 is using your souped up video card or a default one.
  9. The rendering and ray tracing in the newer versions are way ahead of the old POV stuff. What type of projects do you do? Attached is a render of a recent bath. 100% Chief X6. Also, look in the "Time to show us your Goodies" thread for other examples from other users. There are also some "other" rendering programs used for some of the posts so read carefully.
  10. Found a nice tree in 3D Wharehouse only 221 KB. Try to bring it into Chief and it locks up the program. From the looks of it, it has a ton of faces. Tried converting to 3DS and reducing polygons in Accutrans. THe result was a huge file of about 45 MB. So much for reducing polygons. Can't figure how a 221 KB SKP file that loads easily in Sketchup poses such a problem for Chief etc. leafy-tree.zip
  11. I hope you don't have any ex-Obama people working for you......;o)
  12. Interesting. Do you paste in both 2D and 3D views?
  13. OK, I now have them framing. I checked several items so am not sure which one did it. Is it controlled via the roof framing? As you can see I never used this before.
  14. I have a room with a deck above. I am trying to do a ceiling plane which would be the "rafter" area for the room. I cannot get framing for the ceiling plane. I WILL post the plan if no one knows an answer off the top of their head.
  15. If you leave a room then, like in a walkthrough, the lighting will change to that of the new room you are in. You can start a camera view in a room and back out and the lights will stay on unless you select something. Also, maximum of 8 lights and I think Chief uses the 8 closest to the camera so if you move away from a light source it may go off if you have more than 8 lights on in a scene.
  16. Oh, so it only holds it for a moment? ;o)
  17. you know that is not a bad idea. IF not for Chief proper then for Chief users. I know there is a smathering of symbols created by users that have been posted from time to time but having a centralized place for them would be great. As new users come along they could access them.
  18. Bryce - What's supporting that ridge beam over the window?
  19. just emailed again asking of it has been released. Anyone hear anything?
  20. J - the reason you switched was because you did not want the same thing as you had. Well this program has a different approach and requires getting used to thinking a little differently. The hardest part is learning to adjust how you approach things. That is the hardest part for those coming from an AutoCAD or similar background. Hang in there. You will get better at it and come around to appreciating it. THe software is not perfect but none is.
  21. Mike - For remodeling I think it is the only way to go. New construction is different but I only do remodeling nad have to make sure that cabinet/shower etc. is going to fit ;o)
  22. Like David I do mostly kitchens and baths. Another thing you want is to set you dimensions to locate casings. WHen I measure I always measure along the wall to door and window casings.
