Chief Architect Software Licensing Changes
Rich_Winsor replied to Fairhaven_Homes's topic in General Q & A
You know Larry I was always of this opinion also but I have to admit that I was astounded, nay dare I say flabbergasted, to see that a topic that has been on the board for 17 days has had 14,600 views. To put that in perspective the instructional thread for the Q&A forum which has been at the top of this forum for going on 9 years now has only been viewed 8,100 times. 14,600 views divided by 17 days = 858.8 views per day 8,100 divided by 3285 (365 x 9) days = 2.5 views per day -
You know, I created this image on a lark but ever since we have been having a spirited debate as to just what exactly it is. Is this an example of 2D 3D? Or is it 3D 2D? Is it a 2D rendering or a 3D rendering. Sorry, somehow this seemed germane to this topic.

Now I'm getting confused. So are we talking about a Spanish home done in the Italian manner?

My philosophy has always been that the inside of my computer is no place for liquids. I had the unfortunate situation of spilling lemonade onto my workstation once and it was not a pretty sight, but I digress. I have always used spacious cases and very robust power supplies and have never had an over heating issue. It's the same reason that I run Avid mechanical disk brakes on my road bike. Who want's to mess around with a hydraulic system and the potential for seal failures and fluid leaks?

Porch room with difficult walls to separate spaces

What the heck, you guys are practically next door neighbors. Why don't you just hook up at the local pub? -
Interesting design... Didn't David use one of those to bring down Goliath?

Hey Chop, hope you didn't invest too much time in engraving the plates to print those up. You might want to take another look at those before you try to pass any. Nonetheless that is a unique way to devalue the C-note.
-
So I added a couple of stacks of C-notes to my plan and by the time I took a camera view they had turned into singles.

To what would you attribute the glowing areas behind the headboard and pillow? It seems that from the sun direction those areas would be in shadow like the bookshelf... no?- 245 replies

Aye matey, there's the rub. Xfrog.com has thousands but they tend to have high surface counts. They also have some free samples so you might want to give some a try and see how they perform for you. Here is a quick PBRT comparison between a Chief 3D tree and a Xfrog tree. These were both Ash trees and seem to be striking eerily similar poses.

Yikes! That's only 1,823 files. And I was thinking of volunteering to convert a few for you. I think I'll defer to the Rabbitt on this one.

Reference layers are displaying in black

I didn't look at your plan, but based on your image it looks like you have color toggled off. -
I don't know Eric... If the OP is looking for a riff-raff kind of look he just might be in the right place. There are river rocks and gravel in the Core Library if that will work for you.

What is the trick to shaping windows so one jamb is tilted off 90?

Here you go @rikdekker. Upon further consideration I have come up with a simple workaround that will let you tint your mirror glass any color and have it render in all views including Standard View. All you have to do is create a thin 3D Solid the dimensions of the mirror glass and place it in front of the mirror. Now you can assign a colored glass material to the solid and tint the mirror any color you like. In the images below the top and bottom mirrors in the center are default mirrors from the library. The 4 mirrors flanking the stock ones on either side are obviously tinted to different colors. They will display in all camera types. Maybe this will work for you until such time as your suggestion is acted upon.
-
Maybe the OP had something else in mind.
-
You can't always get what you want (where did I hear that?). But in this case maybe you can get what you need. If you use the Rainbow Tool to change the mirror "Material Color" to Black and the "Material Class" to "General Material" you can achieve a "Black Mirror" in Ray Trace (CPU), PBR (GPU) and Vector views.
-
Please do.... that's quite a daunting image. I don't know if I could "perform" under those circumstances.

Forget about the metal siding? What is that material that they book matched on the corner of the building?

Not to hi-jack my own thread or in any way disparage Joe, but I did not mark this thread as "Solved". In fact I hadn't even read the replies yet when it was marked as Solved. If I didn't then who else has the power to do so? Just trying to figure what happened and when? Original Post: 23 hours ago Joe's response: 20 hours ago I log in tonight - 22 hours since my last visit Go to read the new replies and find the thread marked as solved even though I haven't read the replies yet??? I think this is the point where I invoke the old standby...WTF? It's bad enough that we have people marking their own posts as the Solution. Now apparently anybody can mark my posts as Solved too. BTW, when I calm down I'll have a play with it Joe.

Since there seems to be a lot of discussion about cabinets here lately I thought I would throw this one out there also. This little PITA is called a 3 Drawer Corner Cabinet. After wasting a couple of hours (including watching a Chief video) trying to wring this out of the Base Cabinet Spec DBX I threw in the towel and settled for a 5 minute hack since all I was after was the appearance and not the functionality. I just stuck a 3D Solid in the corner and slapped some drawer fronts from the library onto it. Just for my edification I'd like to know if this configuration is doable as a cabinet?
