  1. Viki, if your tech is attempting to charge you $1700 for a clean install + software installation, you need to find yourself a new tech as that's a monumental ripoff. That being said, for a computer that's 7-8 years old, I don't think I would even spend $500 on something that may end up not even fixing the issues you are having. In my opinion, based on the age of your current PC, I'd say you're overdue for a new system. Keep your video card and your hard drive though .
  2. Much like yourself, I was planning on upgrading to a Ryzen system as well. I was debating between the 1800x and the 7820x for months. I ultimately went with the 7820x because it essentially provided single threaded performance close to the 7700k (single-threaded king), and multi-threaded performance meeting/exceeding the 6950x (10 core, $1700, beast of a chip). The Ryzen chips are great, don't get me wrong; they really shine with multi-threaded performance but unfortunately fall behind when it comes to single-threaded performance by quite a large margin. Some of the software I use benefits from ST, and some of the software I use benefits MT so to me the 7820x ended up being the better option. As TheKitchenAbode has said, the 8700k should be a great option for you. Keep in mind that the 8700k, much like the 1700x/1800x, only supports dual-channel memory. Is there much of a difference between dual/quad channel? Depending on the software it can double your memory bandwidth, or it can have absolutely no benefit whatsoever. Here's a comparison between your current chip and the 8700k: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-2400/3937vs803
  3. I ended up going with a 7820x + 32GB of Quad Channel ram for this exact reason. Built the system just yesterday.
  4. Can you post your plan file so we can take a look?
  5. I'm really confused as to what you're after buuuut... Couldn't you just do a copy-in-place and then reflect-about the copy? That way you have the original version remaining, plus the reflected version as well?
  6. Unfortunately Chief doesn't have this option. I have a seat with Weyerhaeuser's Javelin software. I just end up re-drawing it in the software for complete member analysis.
  7. Thanks guys. You're always super helpful
  8. Hey Guys, Looking for a retaining wall light similar to the one in the attachment. I've gone through Chief's library and can't seem to find one. Anyone have anything similar that I can use? Still on X8.
  9. Unfortunately CA does not possess the capability to import Revit files. The file itself would need to be exported/converted into a format that CA can import (dwg, dxf, sketchup etc...)
  10. I just ended up using PL solids. It was actually a lot less time-consuming than I had thought. Here's a rough perspective view which still isn't complete.
  11. Interesting. Are you able to provide some samples? I'd love to see the end result.
  12. Thanks, RR. I'll post some final renders once they are done early next week. I'm really hoping that this turns out lol
  13. No texture used. Just a crude circle drawn with the CAD tools and then converted to a PL.
  14. Very true. Also, when it comes time to applying color, I'm thinking having separate panels would look a lot better as each will have it's own gradient/shading etc.
  15. Thanks, Michael. When I was asked for this type of cladding, my immediate thought was that it would have to be done via PL solids. I guess I was just hoping that there would be an easier/quicker alternative.
  16. I have a client that's looking for this silver/grey cladding on a house: Just wondering how you guys would go about producing this in CA...
  17. Are you just hoping to show the area in 3D to help a client visualize it? If so I think it can be done with some trickery Edit:
  18. I personally don't think it's an issue setting up a PayPal account where users can donate money for your hard work in regards to the symbols you've created. Furthermore, there are threads within this forum where people are selling macros that they've spent the time to create to make our lives easier when it comes to drawings and calcs... I fail to see how this would be any different. That being said, you could also create your own thread showcasing all your symbols, some of them free, some of them with a price tag. My time is valuable so, if I can find a symbol out there that I need, 10 times out of 10 I'll purchase it rather than spend hours and hours trying to create it.
  19. Not sure if anyone needs this, but I had to create a modern garage door symbol for a client. Modern Garage Door - Side Window.calibz
  20. I'd wait until next month if you can. Intel is releasing their "i9" series of chips. If you can't wait, option 2 or 3 should be good.
  21. Great video. Thanks for spending the time to create this.
