Have you looked at it in a glass house view? Quite often that shows the cause of these extra lines.

What he wanted was 10' (I just used my default main level). My engineer has actually done this with bolted plates and 1/2" continuous plywood with a specified nailing pattern on both sides. I believe we also ran some lvl studs through at some of the larger openings. It was a while ago but the house is still standing and there have been no structural shifts or drywall cracking.

I haven't tried but wouldn't it frame properly if you used a 24" second floor and made all those room spaces open below?

As Michael said "Try getting yourself familiar with the Edit Wall Layer Intersections Tool.". You have to work with each different layer using this tool and it is explained in the manual. I did go to the library to bring a rug in. There was a good selection, I thought, but they are not symbols even though they look like one. If you want an oriental red rug (or many of the others) I presume you bring in a rectangular rug and then go back and add the oriental red rug as the material. Seems to work but more steps than I was expecting. Much better though than the previous slab suggestion.

If it is in Ontario, I believe it requires a Provincial certified Designer or Architect.

Does that mean, if I want an oriental rug in the dining room, I have to place a slab under the table and then put the oriental rug on it as a material?

I was looking for an area rug to put in a plan. I called up "rug" in the library and tried to install a border rug. None of them or the other patterned rugs would attach except for the items such as corded round rug or rectangular rug, etc. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the symbols? Are these just materials we have to apply to another rug symbol?

Thanks. I use them inside and forgot when doing the deck. Does that bring the deck supports out to the edge if you use the bearing line?

Is there any way to set the defaults so the deck support beam and posts are not stepped back for a cantilever? I never have a cantilever and usually have a roof over the deck so require supports directly under the roof supports. This situation comes up on almost every plan I draw. I also would like to know if there is a way to frame the deck in at 90 degrees when it is wrapped around a corner. The program always puts the joist direction the same even when I split the spaces up but maybe I am just not doing something in the correct order.

There should be a royalty fee + additional fees for reversed plans, site plans, revisions (if they are offered). I charge a pretty basic fee, usually $500, but only on the understanding that I do any additional work at my hourly rate or a predetermined fee for service. My contractors appreciate me dealing directly with the customers as it saves them one step and in the end gives them happy clients.

Perry, the homes in Brazilian cities are very well designed, generally by architects. They are very strict on codes and proper sealed drawings. Very similar, I would think, to California's requirements. Their construction techniques are different to North American standards but the wall system could easily be built into Chief. The translation issue would be the hardest to work around.

Where is your roof baseline? If it is outside the perimeter wall, the eaves will only box to it.

Do you have an Apple TV hookup? I have used that with a TV for video presentations and other apps on my iPad. It should work with your Air too. I have never used the computer connection but it is in the list. Maybe someone has tried this option.

Can you not just manually grab the dimension extensions and place them properly? Are the walls different on the second level?

I have done a few and always used 2 walls. You have to show the fire stops and double truss with drywall or extended walls to split the attic space. It works fairly simple and the sections look right.

I am with Richard on the design portion of the job. Just because you know structure, the codes and how to use Chief doesn't make you a good designer. Clients will depend on you knowing proper room layouts, traffic patterns, space requirements, balance, style, etc. etc. Read books, take classes, look at designs and above all listen. It is a fantastic job. Good luck.

Scott, if the driveway height is based on the terrain height does it matter which level it is on? I haven't tried it so just curious if it might or might nor work. I usually leave the terrain turned on in all the camera views to save myself a step and I have always used the hide terrain option. I am probably missing an important point because I am not on the computer right now.

If your terrain is on level 1 and you have a cantilevered floor it will cut the terrain at the cantilever. Move the terrain to level 0 and it doesn't according to a few posts I read. I still have to try it though, so not sure it's the best advice but worth a try.

Good video for a patio cover. This will probably help the OP. My issues are a bit different and if I get some time in the next while I will post a plan in a new thread that shows why I feel I need to do my decks manually.

I have tried to take the time and read up and watch videos to set all the defaults but after trying numerous times I have had to go back to my manual ways. This is partially because of time constraints. When you have multiple projects on the go and in the future it is hard to do more experimentation without cutting into my precious family time. I try my best to learn something new every week but I guess this is one of the items I find put to the back because it is fairly fast and labels exactly how I want in my templates. Maybe one day I can catch up to you P but I seem to have a few stumbling blocks:-( (See, I've even learnt how to use an acronym, lol.)
