  1. The city is beautiful and I'm sure if you google the local tourism office she will find lots to do or see. There may even be some group events that she could join.
  2. I would do a plan save as, remove the stair walls and do a set of railing that are the proper height/style for above the railing walls, then set them to follow stairs. Turn these into symbols and place them back in the original plan on top of the stair walls. There was an entire thread a ways back that explained this technique. I think Scott or ? even did a video of putting a railing symbol above a low wall for a deck.
  3. I saw that too. I'll have to give it a try.
  4. I don't know either. It worked with those settings and I didn't want, or have time,to explore any more options. I'll maybe revisit it once the drawing is out the door.
  5. Second try.. I changed it to furred and no room def. The rebuilt framing (F12) didn't work but when I used the "build framing" dbx and redid the subfloor for floor 2 it finally worked. I thought F12 would do this but obviously not.
  6. Thanks for the help everyone. I just got in from a client visit so will give these a try. This plan is a bit of a mess because the clients picked a contractor that wants scale drawings on 11x17 sheets. Everything I usually do is 1/4" and now I have convert these over to 1/8". What a pain:-(. Not as easy as I thought but they will be done soon.
  7. I did auto frame and then cut a section "S10". It shows the upper floor framing to my plumbing wall instead of the exterior wall. The wall framing detail shows the exterior wall ballooning through to the upper ceiling. Do I have to remove the plumbing wall to do the framing, turn off auto frame and then replace the wall? Why did the floor not frame to the exterior wall? Hoffman1.zip
  8. Yes, I do know you have to set grade height but I always show my terrain against the house so they are the same. I guess some people just use a line. If the terrain didn't match heights against the house in all the views, including rendering, my plans would be rejected by the building departments around here now.
  9. I can now set my grade as 0 on the story pole and the dimension label heights are then based on height above grade (terrain height). This has just been since the latest update. Maybe I am misunderstanding something but I can now show the highest ridge height with a dimension above grade and that is a improvement on my con docs.
  10. You will have to post your plan. There looks like a few problems but everyone that can help you will need to see what you have done on the plan.
  11. I set the top of terrain to 0" (I make sure the terrain is in the proper location against the house) and then do dimensioning off that because most of the plan checks around here need grade to various locations on the house. My sections show construction floor elevations. I haven't had any problems with incorrect heights.
  12. Thanks Michael. I didn't have my computer available to do a scene capture. Now that we can dimension from grade I am using the story pole on all my jobs. It is a big time saver.
  13. I'm not at my computer but I think that is the inside dimension line. You can turn that off in the default settings too.
  14. Story pole dimension defaults are under auto dimensions. Just add or remove from the lists. You can now also change where dimensioning is from. E.g. Main floor or grade.
  15. Mark. That is exactly how my user library is. Folders and subfolders. If I think I am going to use an item frequently it immediately gets saved to the proper location.
  16. As I use symbols, I move them to folders in my user library. Similar to Joey, I use fairly generic items for most plans just to show clients how spaces work. Occasionally I do more detailed interiors but only if the client is paying for my time hunting through the libraries. These items then go into a client user folder that I can pull from for other similar style jobs.
  17. On my printer I also have to select "choose paper size by PDF" (or something similar, not at the computer). That combined with "at scale" gives me correct drawings on both printers.
  18. Once you change it to round, go to Material and change that to steel.
  19. Yes, as Michael said, Thank You. A good addition to my library.
  20. If you don't want a schedule you can just uncheck "include in schedule" in the window dbx (can be the default) and it will then have a size on plan view. I use this for interior windows that we are just framing in.
  21. I did some office spaces inside a large vaulted area and just put a ceiling plane over the office area. It seemed to work well. I had the main area already drawn before they decided to put in the flat ceiling area so didn't want to restart with 2 story's at that point.
  22. Did you go to your nvidia card setup and put X8 in its 3D list?
  23. Yes, I know Alan wanted wall symbols but he also said he had found a cannister and motor. All is well though. A couple of our great guys have imported and shared a sketchup symbol that works great. Chief Talk and all its users are the best.
  24. Thank you Joe. The mechanical area of my user library is almost complete:-)
  25. A wall mounted waste can is pretty close. Can't imagine why we don't have one. 90 % of the new homes have one in their garage or utility room. I guess a suggestion is required.
