  1. It was Alan (ACADuser) that said he found one, in a post from last May. Hope he sees this or I'll send him a PM.
  2. I have been hunting for a symbol to use. I could get one from 3D warehouse but there was a thread from last year that said we had one. I have used every word and combo I can imagine and also googled it to no avail. There must be one as this is a pretty common residential item but I cannot find it. Someone must be better at library searches than me
  3. Thanks Michael. I did add an extra empty wall space to the upper portion to make it 8" to match the foundation but the pile still wasn't quite centred. I will send in the original drawing as I think the footing should centre under the foundation portion of a pony wall (just as it shows in plan view).
  4. Can anyone explain why the piles (footings) show centred in plan view when they are actually offset? Is this a bug? And why can we not offset them individually?
  5. Thanks for all the input. On the piles: I would have understood about the offset under the pony wall but was confused that they showed properly in the plan view. I will just adjust with a slab so it looks right in section. I used a pony wall because that is what will happen in real life. I think adding the "no material" layer to the wall definition may be the best solution if I was doing it again. I did use the auto roof originally but they changed their minds a couple times on the entry way so it was adjusted both times. (while they were sitting here, so manual was the fastest). I imagine that may have caused the problem but I'll check your solutions out so I can fix it myself if it happens again.
  6. I am doing a small garage addition to a farmhouse. They are adding the new entry over the old garage grade-beams. I have placed the piles but when I did a section through the old garage (S10) the piles are offset from the grade beam. When you click on them in plan view the center point is also offset but they look correct. I just copy/pasted all these old piles so do not know what happened as all the others are correct. The other issue I notice was the back corner of the roof. (Elev. 2) The box eave isn't framing the same as all the rest, so not sure what I did there either. Neither of these are important to the new addition but I would like to know what has happened so I can correct it in future plans. Delparte.zip
  7. Thank you for all the suggestions. I will try a few of these, as per David's suggestion, and see what feels/works the best for me.
  8. I am looking to upgrade to a new mouse but don't have any idea what to look for. I am currently using a Logitech M705 on my desktop and a Logitech M515 with my laptop. I do not want any extra programable button unless they are incredibly easy. My hand is small so those large ones I have seen suggested in some old threads will not work well. It may be these ones are the best but they are fairly old and it sounds like upgrading may help with all these click delays I have noticed lately.
  9. If you are ever worried about trying something, just do a save-as and rename so you know what it is. Then you can experiment without any changes to your original. If it works you can rename as your new drawing or keep trying.
  10. I have just started a new renovation project that needed some of the items in the medical library (that I never needed before). I looked at the $20 price tag plus exchange, then went to the 3D Warehouse. I would have downloaded everything if I had a warning this was going to happen.
  11. I am having the same issue. It seems to go to 1/2" sizing and I use the dbx too for a final drawing. Snaps are off.
  12. I doubt it let you put piles under your grade beam and equally space them in one operation.
  13. It is in the structure tab. Has been since the start of X8.
  14. I just tried Ken's method with my deck posts and it worked perfectly. 2 fantastic time savers in one. Great day! Edit....I actually meant rlacklore's method. I spaced the posts along the beam. No time at all to do it once you know how.
  15. OMG. That is great. I'm with Scott on needing a class just for these little, but oh so important tips. I gave Ken a point too.
  16. X8 Viewer is available. I have a client currently using it.
  17. This client has an excellent website and just wants to add a new section for renders and plans. I'm sure the web designer will give me some guidance but I wanted to know where to start when working with Chief. This is so much more fun than con docs
  18. I did understand about dpi. For now these will not be prints so I am doing the size that can be put on the website without too much slow down and yet people can zoom in for a larger view. The speed wasn't fast but manageable. Just had to take a longer lunch
  19. Thanks Larry and Graham. This is very useful. I think I'm on the right path and will definitely check with the web designer once my client gives me that info. The sign people will vary so I will just save the cameras and do them on am individual basis.
  20. I have been able to get some fairly decent ray traces from all the help on the forum. My problem now is that I'm not sure what image size or ?? do I use so my clients can put these images on their websites. They generally have very good quality photos and site pictures and need these images to be somewhat similar in quality. They will then be linked to design floor plans that I also have to supply. Others want to use images on signage. I haven't been able to find this info after watching and reading endless Ray trace videos and forum topics. I am a good custom home designer but these image problems seem to be completely taking over my design time.
  21. Thanks Dennis. This actually looks much better for a visual than a basic walk through .
  22. Dennis. Are there any samples of this approach some where on line? Sounds really interesting.
  23. Not at my computer but it looks like you have roof over turned on in the structure dbx for that room (the porch) and those are auto attic walls.
  24. Thanks for those. There were videos on the different subjects presented during the user meeting. Some of them were very good and they expanded on what was actually presented.
