  1. I do know that Chief works on the next version all year long and not just 3 months.
  2. They all have their own prices and that can vary greatly. I've seen a 400,000 job and some contractor comes in at 250,000
  3. Just remember for remodeling plans you have to separate new walls and all other items from anything existing, that can be quite a process if your not set up for it. I think Chief might have a remodeling template to give you a good start at it.
  4. In reality, with my extensive experience with insurance company's, they are never on your side and will always try to cheat you whenever possible ---so beware.
  5. Unless they can pay me as I draw the plans, everything is ok, if not then I wouldn't draw it. the Insurance does give them money up front. The bank won't fund it until all their things are done.
  6. Not sure about X7 but you could use a "Bearing line to break the joists also., You can also check with or without joists to get the flush result.
  7. if you make it a bearing beam by checking the box at the bottom of the DBX, it should break the ceiling joists.
  8. You have to just let go my friend, the name is " Los Angles Chargers now. I know it's painful but you always have the Padres and great weather..
  9. You can also just dig out the underfloor (crawl space) an extra 8" deeper and extend the footings down also or just build it as it is using 2x6 T&G with girders, make sure to check the span of the 2x6 flooring in your area.
  10. I guess the best thing would be to submit a plan for plan check, only then will they give you the time to go over all the things you might want to know. As for an engineer, find one and if he or shy is not what you want then try another one you can work with. I have been working with mine for over 30 years now.
  11. I deal with 50 different cities here in southern Calif. and most cities have their own way of applying the codes, it's best to check with the city or county the work is in, I check with each city to be sure.. The most change in in the zoning and municipal codes, you can check all that online.
  12. Dave very nice, that's really something with the animated opening cabinets doors, one question: How did you do that?
  13. I used to put many masonry fireplaces in my projects because that was the norm back then. Now you can't find any mason's to do them anymore and if you were doing a second story addition , around here cities won't let you extend the chimney's to the existing one. We now tear down masonry fireplaces and replace with metal., it's less expensive than rebuilding masonry and having the engineer calc. it, if you can even find someone to do it. Most of the older chimney's fell during one of the many earthquakes we have had.
  14. Best to call sales, they might give you a deal. I'm pretty sure you can upgrade though.
  15. I have been designing projects in California for 40+ years, using an engineer most of the time, Richard is just trying to scare people here.
  16. make sure your video card is adjusted for multiple monitor's
  17. And be carful the new label for that window will be placed exactly under the below label so you will need to move one of them to see it.
  18. The only thing is that you can only delete one page at a time, so we must go thru each page. what would be nice is if we could delete or edit all pages. now that would be a time saver.
  19. that site has been around for at least 15 years, I saw it when I started using Chief, I wonder if any of those details have been updated since.
  20. I'm pretty sure that you aren't allowed to trim any I joists, look in the manufacture's specs. Trimming destroys the integrity of them..
