  1. Thanks guys. The check is in the mail.
  2. Mike, I am in Oz and would be happy to hop over for a little "holiday". I could also do on line sessions using Skype screen sharing.
  3. Timmy, I wouldn't use the thickened walls - I would do it as per my pic. Looks like you are using 2 separate doors - use one Double Door to eliminate the central fin.
  4. There are at least 2 ways to do this: 1. Use Build...Wall...Wall Hatch to hatch the walls. Turn on the Walls, Main Layer Only layer. Make sure Walls, Hatching layer is turned on. 2, Do it all in the wall definition by applying the same Fill Style to every layer in the wall. Then make the wall lines white where you don't want to see them (everything but the main layer).
  5. Timmy, I think Joe means this:
  6. Julie, You can do something like this pretty quickly with Chief's standard tools - including the Spline Distribution Path and the Elevation Line tools. And a hint - you can use the Copy in Concentric mode for the rocky stream bed. My advice would be to steer away from the Terrain Modifier tools as you have very control - better to use the Elevation Data tools where you have complete control. This rough one took about 10 minutes.
  7. Yes, you can convert a spline into a wiggly line - these are most useful for all sorts of things. There is no problem deconstructing a spline. The problem is what to do then. You can copy an object along a straight line by using either the Multiple Copy tool or the Align/Distribute along line tools. But I think these only work for a single line. I don't thing that there is another tool (apart from the Distributed Object tools) that will allow you to distribute along a polyline or a spline. Probably easier to just trace over the existing spline with the Spline Distribution Path tool.
  8. Curt, Glad I could help Curt. Who would have thunk it was so easy to be a genius (and I can even spell it proper) . If I had known it was that easy to be a genius, I would have been one long ago!
  9. Curt, Have you tried turning off the Walls, Thru Wall Lines layer? That's the simplest one. And don't forget the Edit Wall Layer Intersections tool, which will work in a lot of cases.
  10. Perry, I can fix the problem by turning off Auto Build Roof Framing and Auto Build Floor & Ceiling Framing. I haven't got a clue why this works - but it does. Have a play with these settings and see what happens for you. Could have something to do with the Auto Rebuild Walls Floors/Ceiling setting that Alan covered. The poly solid error message is coming from your post brackets.
  11. Perry, I am seeing the freeze with labels off. But I am also getting an error message that says : This polyline solid overlaps or crosses itself. It may not look correct in 3D. Filled objects may also draw incorrectly in 2D. It appears 3 times in a row. Are you getting that message? Another thing - as soon as I delete one of your sidewalks everything comes back to normal - even if I undo the deletion.
  12. There is a tool to do exactly what you want. Have a look at the Distributed Objects tools like Polyline Distribution Path and Spline Distribution Path - at the bottom of the Build menu.
  13. The foundation doesn't display when you turn that layer off because that layer controls all the objects that make up the foundation like foundation walls, footings, framing, etc. It's just a quick way to turn off the display of all the foundation in one go. You can still control the display of the individual foundation items if needed on an individual basis.. ie, you can turn off just the Walls, Foundation layer, or the Framing, Rim Joists layer if you want. What makes you think that when you select 2 walls, they are on the CAD, Default layer - because it says CAD Layer: CAD, Default in the status bar? This is not indicating that the walls are on the CAD, Default layer. That is indicating that the current cad layer is the CAD, Default layer. It displays like that when you select 2 or more items. The best way to quickly see what layers are being used by an object or objects is to select them and then use the Object Layer Properties on the Edit toolbar.
  14. I'm not sure I understand 100% what you want. You can only draw a straight wall or a curved wall (arc) - you can't draw a freeform wall. You can always join a whole lot of curved walls to approximate the shape - but it sounds like that is what you have done. What type of iron fence do you want. You may be able to use a molding polyline if it's not too complicated - or there may be other option, depending on the detail required.
  15. Perry. That's a weird one. How about posting the plan here so that we can have a go.
  16. Sounds like you have the Core Catalogs turned off. In the LB, do you see an entry for the Chief Architect Core Catalogs, but just can't open it? First up, in the LB, check to see if the Active Filter is "Not Filtered" Next, click the Filter icon (the funnel with a + sign) and in the Core Catalogs section, make sure all the libraries are unchecked. You can use the Filter to hide libraries in the LB.
  17. Ron, I too started out with VCAD, but gave it away long ago. One of the best features of VCAD was the 2 letter sequential shortcuts. Are you aware that you can set Chief X6 up with the same (in most cases) 2 letter shortcuts as you are using in VCAD? They are a real time saver.
  18. Not so fast! To get the ceiling framing to display in the Cross Sections, you have to build the ceiling framing. Build... framing...Build Framing...1st panel...Ceiling Above Floor 1...Build Ceiling Framing. The ceiling framing will now display in your cross sections.
  19. Rob, Are those recessed joints or proud joints? If they are recessed, I outlined a method a little while ago using the Wall Material Region tool. Try doing a search. If they are proud, use a slab, poly solid, etc.
  20. There are several ways to select similar objects. Select the tool for the objects you want to select and then draw a marquee around them. Only those objects will be selected. Use the Select Same Type tool. Shift select the objects. There are probably other ways as well.
  21. Perry, You said: Well...they do show and are described pretty well by material, size, etc. And you can edit them and move them to a different category. No big deal.
  22. DO NOT use Rotate Plan View - it is like turning the drawing board around - as you have discovered. Edit Area (All Floors) should work - don't use the Visible option. Or...select everything and use the rotate arrow...or use Transform/Replicate. I would assume that you do not want your text to rotate as it is probably drawn horizontally and that is probably how you want it to remain - so don't select it.
  23. Mike, There is no such camera as a "Back Clipped Wall Section" camera. The Wall Elevation camera does not show the side walls, ceiling or floor framing. The Back Clipped Cross Section camera and the Cross Section/Elevation cameras show the side walls, ceiling and wall framing - assuming that the framing has been built and the layers displayed.
  24. Larry, Select the walls you want to frame. On the Edit toolbar, select "Build Framing For Selected Objects" - the icon looks like a house frame.
  25. Are you using the "Auto Adjust Lites for Component Size" setting?
