  1. The Leader Line IS snapping to the midpoint. It is snapping to the midpoint of the END of the framing member.
  2. David, You can open older .pl1 files directly in X8 without converting.
  3. Also... There are a few ortho controls: Angle Snaps is the main one The Primary Movement Method (Orthogonal or Polar) is another Always Snap Walls on Allowed Angles is another Have a look at the Cad Stops Move and Wall Stops Move setting in the line dbx. Have a look for the "Bumping/Pushing for Type in Dimensions" setting in Preferences.
  4. Without seeing the plan, I am guessing it is the Connect Island Rooms setting in the General Wall Defaults.
  5. You can change the default decking material at Defaults...Rooms...Deck Room...Structure panel...Floor...Planks, Joists. Don't forget that if you have actually built a deck with auto deck framing, the deck planks are individual framing members, not just a material applied to a surface. So it makes a difference if you have auto deck framing toggled on. The material painter will only do 1 deck plank at a time - very slow going.
  6. I could fix a lot of the wall problems by just opening the wall's dbx and closing it.
  7. To get the ball rolling. Open the Build Roof dbx...Roof panel...Roof Height...make the Raise/Lower From Ceiling Height, zero. Auto build roofs. You have lots of weird things happening with walls that I don't have time to look at now.
  8. Tami, Even though you don't have a ceiling in the room, the wall height is still controlled by the ceiling height. Raise the ceiling height and the walls and roof will raise (auto or rebuild roofs).
  9. I must of had a brain freeze. There is a setting in the staircase specification dbx for Landing Rail Height, but it doesn't affect the newel height. The best way is to set the newel height to suit the landing, no newel on first tread for the stairs, and then place manual newels on the stairs.
  10. Chop, Do you really need 15-20 different fonts in the one text block?
  11. Chop, I deleted my post because, with a bit more experimenting I could duplicate your problem. You seem to need a certain number of different fonts or other formatting before the problem occurs. In which case, Michael gave the correct answer - use the Layer Color Text on the Appearance panel if you want all the text to be the one color. That seems to preserve all the other formatting.
  12. Am I misunderstanding your question? But why can't you just select the text and change the color? You may have to uncheck Layer Color Text on the Appearance panel of the Rich Text Specification dbx if it is checked.
  13. Alex, Did you want tile or sheetrock on the wall end?
  14. Ah...a search for "import picture" should do it.
  15. I don't think that will work. The hotkeys are not stored with the plan or the template plan. They are not a Preference or a Default. The are stored in the C:\Users\"MyName"\Documents\Chief Architect Premier X8 Data\Hotkeys folder. Do you have files in that folder called UserHotkeys.xml and UserHotkeys.xsd? If they were deleted, they may be in the recycle bin and you could restore them from there.
  16. Did you look in the manual? It should all be covered there.
  17. AB, Do you mean you want every alternate web horizontal, or do you mean vertical? You have complete control of all the timber pieces that make up the truss, including top and bottom chords as well as the webs. Get as close as you can by using the truss specifications. Then, if you need to edit the truss, go to CAD...Cad detail Management... scroll down and select Truss Detail and Open. Or, you can get there quickly by selecting the truss and then selecting Open Truss Detail on the Edit menu. You will see a diagram of the truss. Unlock the Framing, Roof Trusses layer. You can now edit the truss any way you like, including extending the tail. You can even add new framing members. If you want something like the pic below, you can do this in the Roof Truss Specification dbx by adjusting the Maximum Horizontal span settings - no need for any of the above manual editing. Make both Top Chord and Bottom Chord spacing the same distance and you will get the vertical webbing.
  18. Have you had a look in Bonus Catalogs...3D Molding?
  19. This is doable with the Cad To Walls tools which usually works pretty well. You didn't say what problems you experienced using this tool.
  20. I think the problem is that the rooms that have no framing have their Floor Structure specified as a single layer of 20 3/4" OSB. You need a framing material in the Floor Structure to generate auto framing. The floors that are generating framing have a framing layer (20" Fir Framing) and a 3/4" OSB layer.
  21. There is an option that may make it a little easier than exporting and importing any defaults. Keep a shortcut to your template plan handy. When you want to change a default setting in the template plan, open it up and use Import Default Settings. You are given a choice as to what settings you want to import into your template plan. This saves manually changing the setting or exporting and importing various default settings.
  22. The wall finish on the shower wall should wrap the wall end if the wall is contained within a room. If the wall is outside a room, the finish will not wrap. For the kerb walls, you could try using a solid rail and assign the wall finish to the top rail.
  23. Rob, Try: Build... Roof...Edit All Roof Planes...Structure panel...Roof Size...reduce the size of the Eave Sub Fascia. If you build the roof framing and display the Framing, Roof Rafters layer in a section view, you will see the sub fascia and how it effects the eaves height.
  24. Joe, Isn't that the same as checking Use Room Type in the Room Specification dbx, with added flexibility that you can apply different settings for different rooms and you don't have to muck around with macros?
