  1. Just curious Joe, was my understanding that California doesn't accept REScheck, am I missing out?
  2. Ha, I wish! but then again your helmet would probably 'splode my computer on those rough days The sad part is, I found a better DIY touch interface, I have to program it all over again...if I ever get around to it, anyone could download it to ios and have it work ootb
  3. Why not print the actual icons? In PC: Program Files/Chief Architect/Chief Architect Premier X12 (64 Bit)/Resources/Buttons/ Not sure about Mac, use finder to search "Buttons"
  4. Christine, not singling you out here but just wanted to respond to this. I think style palettes may inadvertently do some designers a very big favor. I know many designers who build out cabinets any way they please and let the custom cabinet builder hash out the feasibility. What a great opportunity this is, to get in touch with a vendor and learn their system. Most cabinet styles already have an established name, sometimes a universally recognized name. Most custom cabinet builders just build the boxes and source the doors. Take a look at Conestoga, one of the leading cabinet door manufacturers: https://www.conestogawood.com/products/cabinet-doors-drawer-fronts/most-popular.html?p=1 Already an established naming convention. Find out what paint your builder uses, my main custom builder uses Sherwin Williams. Easy to spec "Madison 6531" and get an inside beaded shaker painted Indigo. Alternatively, for cabinets, you could always just use the established name that the style came from in the library I would encourage duplicate styles so that you can place in multiple parts of your library. Like /doors,/cabinet styles, /home style. etc. For home styles, I use the name of the project that it originated from. Or for local styles that I have studied for years- regional names. Dimond, Glen Park, Montclair, Sunset-etc, municipalities and their common architectural style in the way that a North Berkeley Craftsman is far different than a North Oakland Craftsman.
  5. Okay, as this topic is garnering more and more elaborate setups, I'll share mine. I have 3/4 of the available tools programmed to a hotkey touchpad interface...but my absolute favorite by far is one that changes the active saved plan view with one button on my touch pad. It took a bit of scripting to get it to work but man is it a time saver...changing plan views in under a second. For plan view 16, it mouse-clicks the drop down, hits page up, then pressing the down arrow key 15 times, etc.
  6. A "symbol" as Chop is referring to is the classification given to a 3d object, not to be confused with a 2D block which is the 2D graphical representation of your symbol. Create your 3D "symbols" and simply add them to your library using the various different methods which are laid out in CA's supporting documentation and videos. Alternatively, you can request that Chief host your files in their manufacturers libraries. You'll have to contact CA for that. I think Dustin is in that department, really nice guy.
  7. More specifically I think Glenn was referring to hotkeys using modifiers vs hotkeys using character keys. Modifiers are simultaneous only, characters are sequential when no modifier keys are present. You can do a combination of the two as well. There are enough combinations to perform all 1200 or so CA hotkeys I have nearly 500 programmed into my touchpad
  8. Pressing two keys together instead of one after another
  9. You can make your own toolbar icons as well with that method.
  10. Please post your plan file, can be a number of reasons this happens
  11. Feature Request Don't know why but I thought we has that feature in all schedules. Thank you Dermot
  12. Label in Schedule Specification/Columns/Available Columns/Label no longer shows a Callout in schedule as I remembered it doing in past when designating "Use Callout For Label" in the Label tab of the Door Schedule Specification DBX. Am I remembering this wrong or missing the correct available column item?
  13. 1) In the "Toolbar Customization" dbx. you currently have open in your screen snippet, navigate to "Tools" side-bar section. 2) In the "Available Toolbar Buttons" sub-section, search "toolbar," you should see your icon listed there with the associated name you gave for the set. 3) Click and drag the icon up to your toolbar and release.
  14. You can right click any user library folder and create a style palette. You can also click and drag your style palette into any other user folder. Style palettes are huge for saving intricate window or cabinet details, saving me hours of searching through template plans. With the new delete tools and style palette CA really heard and answered the call from us SAM users. Need a particular stacked molding detail and toe kick on your cabinet, easy with a style palette. Need beaded face frames..boom, style palette. instead of a wall material region you can use a backsplash and save a custom layered backsplash to your palette for things such as shower walls with hardie backer, aqua-bar and tile.
  15. For anyone finding this thread and looking for training. May want to check out Dan Baumann's program at https://www.chiefexpertsacademy.com/ he's an incredibly kind and warm person who has coached in this software for a couple of decades and is reasonably priced. I haven't taken the program but was invited to hang out with his family and constituents and can't say enough great things about him. May also want to check out @DMDesigns website for training and @SNestor's or @dshall's YouTube channel. @Alaskan_Son offers training in Macro creation, time available, @Joe_Carrick may offer training as well, not sure. May want to sit in on @MarkMc's cabinet hacking webinar next week. Lastly, I would say to direct questions @solver for roof related questions(or any questions) as he is the best and most available at auto generating complicated roofs in my opinion. Adding @joey_martin and @jbaehmer to the mix as well as they are some of the fastest drafters I know or heard tales of. Not sure how they do it but it's fun to pick through their plans when they post.(plan stalker) You can click on any of these tags that I've so annoyingly placed for these users and follow them.(sorry fellas, get back to work!,ha) Cheers!
  16. Why are you duplicating a detail in .plan instead of sending the detail to layout and duplicating the layout box of the detail and scaling accordingly?
  17. Why not write from a screen recording macro? Jitbits MacroRecorder can even work on a scripting basis and increase the speed of the output substantially. Just group the symbols needed into one folder and let the macro run on that folder...you would only be hindered by the time to adjust your most complex symbol, then set timing parameters based on that symbol and let it work through your folder. I'm guessing 10 minutes of scripting and 20-30 minutes of letting it run
  18. Why not build your wainscot using a lower cabinet, no need for creating a symbol. Just lock the recess faces and everything else will resize as you intended
  19. @ChiefUserBigRobI'm guessing it has something to do with how you are switching to your electrical plan. Are your plan view settings associated correctly. How do you get to your electrical plan? Walk us through it. When you turn every layer on is your electrical there?
  20. I have a system that is similar to many other users out there. Active jobs/Job Name/CAD/DATE AND PHASE IN FOLDER NAME/.plan and .template files such that I have a folder named 200203-DRVA meaning that I am in the design review phase on design iteration "A" dated today's date. Tomorrow I will copy and paste that entire folder and rename it to 200204-DRVA. That was I can reference old designs, revert back to them if needed, also keep historical data or previous textures, elements etc. AND have an active backup vs automatic which can possibly be corrupted. These all live on a cloud service. You now have the added benefit of showing previous design iterations in your active plan with referenced files.
  21. You have to do this in a 3rd party software. CA is not capable of UV mapping. You could do it through painstacking surface deletion and symbol compiling, but nowhere near worth the time invested.
