  1. What are you trying to accomplish with this action? I did not quite follow.
  2. Just thought I would chime in with a couple of thoughts. If people finding this thread really want to improve their renderings it would be a good idea to learn a photo editing software and replace the backdrop altogether. Yes the backdrop will cast light into your scene, so why not do away with it and export as a .png with transparent background. From there you simply drop in a new backdrop. Takes all of 2 minutes and then you aren't dealing with color casting. I still use the backdrop in some scenes but its important to manually rotate your sun. I never turn down my sun settings, but when you rotate the sun, you will find that it stops illuminating your backdrop depending on the angle of rotation. The only setting then that I change is the suns angle and backdrop intensity. It takes me nearly no time, just a few minutes

  6. Chief overhauled its rendering engine specifically BECAUSE Mac was dropping support for OpenGL, don't think Chief was really asking for that...Your killing machine has always been run by people that don't truly promote opensource, So it will never be a killing machine for me as I utilize a lot of opensource software. Still can't believe I cant send iMessages through my PC...great "work" phone FYI you will get a lot of new little tidbits of goodness when you pump up your resolution and passes(say 5000) and let it sit for a while
  7. HAHA, you knew you were thread hijacking and did it anyway..get outta here. Would love to comment on your stuff, start a new thread!
  8. Oh I didn't notice! very cool. Always like to help out of my town. Feel free to give me a call anytime and can work you through anything in Chief, contact in website. Would say if one of your technicians is spending a ton of time in layout that is usually an indicator that they could use some workflow improvements. I spend very little time in layout as I use the SAM method and automation and annotation is best suited in plan.
  9. I would ignore the layout time tracker as time is often redundant, unless you export to CSV and write a comparator for both for overlapping times. Timeout is based on idle, meaning triggerable actions in plan. Doesnt matter that you change to a layout window
  10. Second that. For anyone finding this thread..I offer this for the Premier Line
  11. @robdyckand @HumbleChief in your edit toolbar with arc selected: This of course will bypass chord length.
  12. Not to dissuade the suggestion can you post an example plan..10 seconds is a long time, curious if I have some helpful advice for you
  13. I would STRONGLY discourage both of these options. Why are you turning off your background and setting no sun? The OP's desired result is a daylit condition with a background.
  14. So sorry, I dont get notifications on this thread, maybe I can change that through the follow settings. Most of my materials are in my default plan. So yes it can be pretty quick and easy to get a good shot once the concepts are all understood. I still tell people to just hire me for their renderings because it is such a fruitless effort in terms of margin If you want to learn however then by all means we can set things up. I don't spend much time tweaking materials, I usually know the path that I want to take. I also have a large store of core files that I use or simply create new. My photoshop skills are above average however and I am very fast at creating materials. I did start offering photoshop training recently if that is of interest. It can be very time consuming trying to make a material fit your needs when it may be easier for me to just make an entirely new material. On top of that, I utilize substance painter for materials as well.
  15. These are some of the few elements that carry macro values, which is why I use them as well. But annotations, such as the OP was suggesting, are ill advised. All of SH text notes are in plan, as well as elevation callouts or notes.
  16. None of his finished work uses notes or callouts in Layout, it really is an uncommon practice. Plan carries with it so much BIM component based information. Not only do you miss out on the opportunity to take advantage of this information, but you cannot globally change active defaults if you are annotating in layout. Punny as it is, annotating in Layout is "dumb" as in we have no "smart" features to utilize.
  17. Nothing they can do about it, and its been that way for years. Also it is illegitimate as it doesn't give you a functioning Key. So it doesn't harm sales
  18. My files are on my computer, I only selective sync inactive files. So this is not an issue. Maybe I will produce a video explaining all of this. There is literally nothing but upside to using cloud based project orginization, no cons to speak of. When I save a project, it lives on my computer regardless of my internet connection(I should know, I work in Costa Rica twice a year) My files are actively synced to the web when I do have connection.
  19. been using it for a decade with no issue. This is old news. Onedrive and Dropbox have far advanced the coding of their software since that suggestion from Chief. Files are saved to explorer and then parsed to the cloud. Power spikes will make no difference.
  20. Documents folder is the default location for Chiefs data folder and subsequently the archive folder. By default, I believe Win 10 has the documents folder in onedrive, so by default the archive should be synced to the cloud which then has versioning based on a given filename. I never lose a document, I have an iterative folder structure in dropbox and archives in onedrive. Pretty bulletproof
  21. My Elevations are already sent to layout. I typically start compiling for layout before I start annotating. Maybe find an order of operations that work. Layout is dumb, as in no smart features tie it to the model, no classifications, no BIM. Think of layout as a PDF compiler. The process is the same for making a brochure. Make the content, and before you start organizing graphics, ensure that the media can be arranged within the print page margins.
  22. Stop doing this! This is a terrible practice. Especially when you take the leap to macros.
