Rashid_Garuba
Hello,,, Trying to print a job I printed last week with no issues whatsoever... Just made minor revisions and it hangs in Print view for over 2 minutes.. then there are at least 20 nearly blank preview sheets .. (only 1 sheet in this job)... Rashid_Garuba
Just noticed the preview shows 2,541 pages... definitely the reason.. trying to figure this out. NOTHING more annoying... having to reschedule appointment as a result..

Rashid_Garuba
it is recommended to print to PDF first many advantages to do so Lew Why is it "recommended".. should be able to print to whatever I want without any risks..
Gawdzira
Your drawing sheet and paper size should match, ideally. That is the reason for the unusually large quantity of pages.
Rashid_Garuba
What does the blue box in the drawing preview represent? It is restricting the preview in Print view.. I have both sheet and paper size matched... Thanks
Gawdzira
Post you plan and I will try and output a pdf file for you. Are you trying to print 8.5 x 11 sheets from the plan file or from a layout file?
Rashid_Garuba
Alan, I am no longer in a rush to print.... thanks for offering... Clearly the paper size was causing the high page count. The blue box that is "cropping" the drawing?
Rashid_Garuba
Moved the building into the blue box (print area based on drawing scale).. But more an art than science getting what you want in the print without the print getting clipped here or there..
Gawdzira
I can understand that you may print from the plan file (as some do) but I never do that. I am always working with a layout file open that I am feeding images. That way, for plan views and elevation views, I will be printing at a known scale. I even will often include a graphic scale so that if someone does not print out at the correct size they have a scale for reference. I am assuming the blue box you were referring to is the sheet size indicator in the plan file?
Rashid_Garuba
Yes Alan... You print from Layout even very early in the design process??
lbuttery
I never print from plan didn't like the results back in ver 9.5 and other versions since so I don't even try now send to layout then create PDF then to printer as needed Lew

Gawdzira
Yes, I send to layout early in the process. My first prints will be either the as built or very rough elevations that are used as the base for a lot of layers of trace paper. I need those at scale and the easiest way for me to track that is by sending to layout. I have title blocks in my layout file for 8.5x11, 11x17 (both horizontal and vertical) and for 24x36. Once I am done with design development my layout boxes get rescaled and moved accordingly for the construction documents.

Rashid, I hope you didn't actually move the plan to fit into the blue box ( -the drawing sheet, which can be toggled on and off using Print Preview). Much easier to use Centre Sheet or manually drag the drawing sheet around the plan.
Kiwideziner
The only reason to print to PDF if for a record of what is printed, I only do this once at each time I issue a set of drawings. It means printing twice once to PDF and once fron PDF which is a waste of time to do it for check prints or working prints during design phase.
