Auto Build Roof Framing - Default

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is a bug, but when I set the defaults for the roofs to auto build roof framing, it works after I set it for the following roofs I build. But when I open the plan again to work on, I need to set this default back on. ???

If you are talking about your template plan then you would need to re-save the file as your new template.  Unless you are referring to a file that already has roof planes...   That would be a longer story.

It is a plan from my template which does not have it selected.

But after creating a new plan (from the template) I set the defaults to build rafters.

And now I am finding it un-checks when I leave the plan view to a 3d view and go back. That does not seem right to me.

Might sound like a silly question but just to make sure, you are clicking OK and not just closing or canceling the dialog box right?

Yes. Now I am opening the Build Roof first to make sure of my settings and it works from there. Maybe I am doing something that is causing the default to reset ???

Only thing I know of that can cause that problem is you manually modifying framing in one way or another and then clicking "Yes" to the "The current operation modifies a roof framing member....Would you like to turn off Automatic Roof Framing and continue with this operation?" question.

Very possible! Now I need to figure out how to turn it back on - the browser is not letting me upload my plan.

Maybe I need to go back to an archive.

Michael, I think I need to retain your services for things like this.

Because I also built my roof over the main floor, but now I want to put dormers in the second floor and I'm not real sure how to cut my roofs on other planes. I know i seen a video on moving roofs to another floor - but I cant find it back

Move roof up or down a floor is a button icon at bottom dialog box when you've selected a plane or planes.

I think I figured it out. My roof was on the attic level. The rafters seem to show on the floor below - I also found the tools to raise the roof to another level to work on

This has has been a nice learning opportunity. I love that you can move roofs up or down to work on additional roofs. That is amazing to me.

You have to have the file closed out of Chief before you can send it or upload it anywhere.

Chief locks Files while open , so you can't upload it while open in Chief.

Just to Clarify ...Chief doesn't actually move the Roof Planes up or down, it just displays them on a different floor for you so you can work on them easier eg joining them etc....

Or when you need to send ALL planes to Layout and show then on a 1 page "Roof Plan" View some jurisdiction like.

I added my first skylight and the help says it auto creates the ceiling hole. The shaft is created up to the top of the ceiling, but not through the ceiling. Thoughts?

At times, and not on even very large homes - like under 2000 sq.ft. - every edit I make, I get the popup telling me it is rebuilding the model. Now I am trying to force it and it's not doing it - of course! There are times I get a delay with my drawing and editing, and what I find is normal as I know there is a lot going on as the software recalculates. However, other times it just takes like 2 to 4 second with each step.
Is there something I can turn off? This happens even if I only have the plan in front and no other windows/tabs open. I have tried rebooting. Once again, it is fine most of the time, but then I can work for an hour like this. I do not have my layout open either.
      Thoughts?

I have two questions, both in this same picture...
My column molding is distorting on the top. On the rear of this house I wanted to learn more about making my header/beam using a railing wall and my columns I made. I'm liking this better than on the front of this home where I create a molding to make my header/beam and then add my columns in. I even made my columns smaller and places symbol columns over the top of the existing built into the railing wall, but they would not fit over the top - conflict - and also did the same distortion on the top molding. The other is the roof frieze board. Looks strange. I figure there may be something I am missing to make this look right. I was very careful with my dimensioning of the rail wall and my roof. I even tried the using "Edit Wall Layer Intersections" tool - but that did nothing. That may be more for how a plan looks. I also tried the "Wall Intersection" options in Structure. The file is too large to upload here so I will include a link to the file from my google drive... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ir7TdOUleweaC7DFxXqp3hEvQ2eKn-K7/view?usp=sharing
      Thank you,
      Steve

I'm making an electrical plan and trying to figure out how to add my electrical line to my light fixture over the stairs - shown on the main floor. So I have a 2 way switch at the bottom and top of the stairs.

I found a post in another forum discussing the reversal of a plan and how it also reverses (rotates) vertical (sideways) text. It was not solved.
I had to reverse a plan today and once done, I needed to rotate all my vertical text 180 so they were read from the right.
I went into the defaults and set the text to rotate and also not to rotate, but get the same results. Does anyone know how to reverse a plan and keep the text reading from the right?
      Thank you
