Crown Moulding not showing up?

Recommended Posts

crown moulding not showing up on the inside of an exterior wall? I have created a new exterior wall (Dbl masonry w/fir strips), I have three layers (Int, Main, ext.), the walls line up with upper and lower walls, but, the crown does not show up on these walls?

For questions like this, please post the plan file after closing Chief.

And ...

It could be that No Room Moldings is checked for that wall.

I don’t think that’s it...the baseboard is showing.

More info...........I'm on version X8 on a mac 27" 3.2ghz, 32 GB Ram w/GeForce GT 755M 1GB (Graphics), not that any of that matters, except for maybe which version I'm on (X8).

It seems to be only the wall I created (Dbl brick w/fir strips), because all the others are fine. e.g. interior 4&6 and exterior siding 6 (2nd story). They all show both mouldings (base and Crown) as to where the new wall only shows the base moulding? Which makes it even more confusing?? The moulding height seems fine (Set by room, not wall) so, I'm at a loss? But, pretty sure it is with that wall I created (Copied, modified and renamed).

I appreciate your help so far, keep the suggestions coming!

Thanks!!

A new twist? I just created a room (Box) in another location of the drawing with the wall I created (Dbl masonry w/fir strips) and put a camera in there, and the crown showed up?? Now I'm really confused! I've closed, save, reopened the drawing many times, and that didn't change anything (Still no crown on outside wall).

Kind of brings back Eric's first suggestion-post the plan.

Your walls are confusing the program which is causing the automatic molding to generate incorrectly.  In situations like this you can always use the "Make Room Molding Polyline" tool to convert the crown molding into a manual one, edit the shape so that it is inside of the room, and then turn on the crown molding for the edge where it is missing.

The good news is that the automatic molding looks fine in X12.

Just move the masonry out of your main layer

Thanks, that worked! But it does raise some questions that were probably already answered when it was said "I'm confusing the program"? The moulding showed up when I built a room (4 basic walls). Being anilrentetive, moving the masonry wall to the outside is confusing to me? It's a load bearing wall I would think it should be in the "Main" layer? Masonry construction where I'm at (Outside Chicago), means dbl brick. All current modern residential construction is wood frame with brick veneer (I always have to explain what that means to someone who doesn't understand construction) Maybe the program can't decipher that? Either way, thanks, looks great now!

Maybe you can help me with another problem? On an L shaped staircase, how do I have One of the two with a wall instead of railing? (Close on top?)

As you said, seems to work in a separate structure.

Suggest you send the plan to support.

Welcome to the forum.

The K(nowledge) B(ase) has lots of info to help you with these types of things.  You will find the guys on this forum are amazingly helpful and very generous with their time!  But a quick search of the KB or even this forum will give you quick answers and helps you to receive that help when you really need it the most!

The staircase looks good and I help this helps you figure it out.

BTW the reason everyone will ask for your signature info is that ALOT of items that are asked about are different depending on what version and certain technical difficulties others with the same type of configurations have had the same glitch happen so they can help you fix it.

Cheers!

I'm a new user and am trying different tools in X11.  However, for the life of me I cannot find the extend tool (or trim tool for that matter).

I thought that if I picked an interior wall for example to extend to an exterior wall, I would select the interior wall and the
extend (and trim) tool would appear on the bottom of the screen, but it does not.  I checked the Reference Manual and videos, but no go.  I thought maybe it was left off of a toolbar, but I can't find an option to add these tools.

      Thanks for your help.

If you have exposed rafters...is there anyway to get the gable fascia to extend "plumb"...or does it always "trim" to meet the "fascia"?  See attached picture....

I know if I change the gable fascia to something like 1.5" tall it will work...sort of.  What I'd like is to not have a sub-fascia and get the "fascia" trim to extend plumb like the rafters are.

I have an upper cabinet that extends past a railing wall below that is cutting off the crown molding on the wall cabinet. I cannot seem to find a option or work around. Any thoughts?

Can anyone help me I am lost on what seems to be some of the most simple task. I am an AutoCad user and I am used to one or two clicks of a mouse and a task is done. Now I am trying to trim a circle at a specific area. I have drawn a line manually through the circle where I want to trim. I figured I will just grab a trim tool like AutoCad has and just click the line and then the part I want trimmed from the line and its done. But no...I can't find a trim or extend tool. I go to help and it begins to walk me through all the steps to trim a line. TrimObject and ExtendObject tools, I followed the steps starting with drawing a cutting line through my circle, then click the cutting trim tool ( that was what was throwing me off, in Autocad you select the tool first then go to work but here it seems you select the lines/circles etc. then the tool appears as an option to work with.)  selected the cutting line and then tried to mouse click the part of the circle to be trimmed thinking it will just vanish on that side of the cutting line. Nothing! Is the cutting line a different line than just drawing a basic line? I'm confused   Please help...
Also on a side note. Making a block out of something. I noticed when I try to select an object with the select tool by grabbing the whole object the make a block tool does not present itself at the bottom of my screen. But if I only grab part of the object using the same method...the tool appears.. Any advice would be great! Thanks

I am working with a client of mine and they want to restore a downtown building.  They have this historic moulding and I am wondering on how to do this in Chief Architect. See picture.
