keysersoze
i am getting very slow response to moving around in 3d view mode, even the simplest 4 walls and and a roof with shadows on is jerky, a regular model locks the machine up. not having this trouble on my desktop machine at work. \ any ideas out there? here is a snap shot of my driver status
Joe_Carrick
Try turning off shadows. If your video card doesn't have enough onboard memory it will be a problem with them on.
keysersoze
Hi Joe, i have a 1 GB of video memory, geoforce gt540m card?
DRAWZILLA
Do you have the latest version. ? Also a corrupt symbol could do it. Is your video card drivers up to date? Anything running in the background will use resources. ??? Lot of round railing could also do it.
Kbird1
the snap shot above shows his Render Status , driver is 334.7 from Jan. it shows 3147mb of Ram so it must be sharing? since he says 1GB which is 1024mb. also notes simple square house with just a roof..... Joe_Carrick
1GB onboad video memory is pretty low. I wouldn't accept anything less than 2GB - but if you look at my specs you'll see that I have 3GB on my system. Even my Laptop has 3GB.
Barton_Brown
Question for the OP - is this a new problem on your home PC or has it always been slow and jerky and lockups on a regular model?
keysersoze
the model i am using is only about 4megs large, my laptop is gateway nv57h13h with 8 gigs of ram and a i7 -2670qm chip...my office laptop has a very good video card..with this model it has to rebuild shadows...at work it doesnt rebuild at all. Doug_Park
The 540M is not a particularly fast card. I would reccomend turning off shadows when using that card as it will likley not keep up. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
keysersoze
Could the upgrades to CA have out stripped this card on my laptop? The rating for my laptop gtm540 was 701 and my work box gtx670 is 5385...on my work machine i have no delay at all when rotating a 3d model with shadows on... HumbleChief
Also be sure to add Chief to the programs in the 3D Settings dbx. Sped up my renders a LOT.
jcaffee
Once you've done what Larry suggested, be sure to turn OFF software control of rendering in CA. That way the two systems aren't fighting one another. jon
Doug_Park
In versions of Chief prior to X6 shadows would normally always be off in the preview mode. In X6 shadows are a lot faster so can be on all the time, if your card is fast enough. But for a slower card like the 540M you won't get fast enough performance to keep them on all the time. DRAWZILLA
I think Doug is probably correct in this case the 540 is pretty old. I would try to turn off shadows and turn them on only when you need them to send to the layout

Barton_Brown
Thanks Perry! I saw that but thought there was a switch labeled more like 'software control'... I'm now set up with your settings...
