x10 missing flooring materials?

Recommended Posts

So today I was able to update my x10 beta to the full version. After doing so I updated my library catalogs as well, and for some reason all of my hardwood flooring options associated with the core library are now missing.. I tried re downloading the core content as well as updating again to no avail. Which is a bummer because now all of my old projects are missing their floors... Has anyone else ran into this? I wouldnt think chief would get rid of its flooring features, as they actually added to their hardwood library with the beta.

I experienced this with my siding materials this morning when I uploaded X10.

Well played around a little more and turns out that not only is my hardwood flooring gone, nearly half of my wood materials are missing all together..

Can confirm some issues here with beta->full x10 release textures.  I'm missing most of the core catalog wood textures, along with some of the siding textures.  Doesn't appear to be a pattern to what's missing (ie, 'Alder' is missing, 'Ash' is fine, 'Bamboo' missing).

Running a catalog update didn't correct the issue.

Does anyone know if chief is aware of the issue yet? I've heard nothing back from support

I just got off the phone with support - they are aware. Fellow I spoke to had an email to the effect that they are working on it as fast as they can but no date for fix, no work around.

After seeing these posts, I checked and found that I too was missing a most of the wood textures. Called support and went through deleting core content and reference files and reinstalled core content. This did not resolve the missing content. Called support again and got instructions to manually install. This also did not work. All textures worked well using X10 beta. The update took out the textures. Hope they resolve this quickly.

Thanks Jim! Yes, we are on it... hoping to have a fix available for you in a few.

Thanks for your patience while we iron out this wrinkle.

Okay All,

I believe we have resolved the issue. Apologies for the confusion and inconvenience.

To get to latest files for the updated materials, please run the "Update Library Catalogs" command from the "Library" menu inside Chief.

You should see some files download.

Once the download completes, relaunch Chief Architect. The textures for the updated materials should now show properly.

The materials affected where primarily those that got an update in X10 which includes the categories of "Siding", "Wood Flooring", and "Wood".

Thanks for sticking with us while we worked through this.

Best,

I didn't lose any textures.  I'm curious what the rest of you guys are doing differently than me.  Were all of you installing X10 for the first time?  Or do you completely uninstall and reinstall at every update?

Worked for me. Thanks support. Michael, I've never reinstalled, only updated. As I mentioned, I had done several projects with the beta version with no problem. I don't know what the difference was with the download yesterday.

I could be wrong but I think X10 is a stand alone program and does not upgrade X9.  I did not uninstall X9.

Both full versions are still on my system.

It was an upgrade from Beta to the full release

Updated from beta to full release version, the textures were there and working untill I  decided to update the catalogs afterwards. Then they were missing. I'll try re updating once I get home now that they have fixed the issue

Jim and All,

We updated new files to our server recently to support some new materials, and accidentally posted the wrong file. The correct file should be on the server now.

Ryzen, it is possible that it takes some time for the file to populate to the server you are accessing. You may want to try again in a few minutes to run the Update from the Library Menu, and then make sure you re-launch Chief Architect (the files won't refresh until you restart the program).

If this continues to fail for you, we can work through the Support Department to find a good solution.

This is off topic, but will the quick ray trace be coming back or is it all high quality interior and exterior traces now?

Ryzen, these Ray Trace settings are really just different defaults that you can set up in your Profile Template.

We removed the Quick option from the Out Of Box Templates because we had many users confused by the dark looking metals and lighting effects that happen when Photon Mapping is turned OFF. If you prefer to have a preset for quicker Ray Traced scenes in your defaults, you can set a new one up in your Profile called "Quick" with the Photon Mapping setting disabled.

      Hello,
I am applying a wood material to kitchen cabinets and the wood grain is going vertical in the doors and horizontal in the drawers.
I checked the cabinet specifications and it shows only one material for doors.
How can I do the wood grain the same direction in the doors and drawers?
      Thank you.

      Update 11-26-2019
      Tile Builder
      -Dropped Beta tag
-Added a resolution drop down "Output Size" for bigger/smaller texture options
Higher resolutions will let you get smoother edges on non-square tile patterns and the added pixel count will allow for thinner grout lines. Higher resolutions can also clog up your machine and Chief if you use a lot of them, so unless you aren’t getting the look you need, I’d stick with 512 or 1024 output sizes.  Map responsibly.
-Added Picket Tile and Penny tile to the shape drop down

-Changed “thin tile” to 4:1 tile

-Added a slider for Grout width.  Again, if you need thinner grout then what’s being shown, you’ll need to up your resolution under Output Size.

-Added a color selector for tile color, behaves just like the grout color options.  If you want an eyedropper, open the color selector and hit “pick.”
Color Hue is still included for fine tune adjustments.  Keep an eye on your hue if you eyedrop to another color and it’s not matching, more times than not your color is being skewed by the hue slider.
-Added a color variation slider to get some non-uniform color.  Randomly darkens some tiles to varying degrees.

-Added a finish drop down for hand glaze options.

      Fabric Builder Beta added
Single color and multi-color builders for different fabric types.  See parameters below for details.

      Update 4-17-2019
      Wood_Builder_Beta added
Multiple species of both uncut wood for furniture as well as various cut sizes for hardwood flooring.  See parameters below for details.

      Original Post...
Our Content Development Team has been churning out new PBR friendly materials over the past few releases. These are materials that include a combination of Normal Maps, AO Maps, Roughness Maps, and Metal Maps. We use a software specifically designed to generate custom materials for 3D Rendering called Substance Designer. The program leverages parametric values to control sizing, colors, pattern, and other elements to generate unique tile-able texture maps along with automatically producing the other relevant maps need to create the effects that you expect to see in PBR and Ray Trace views.

Our process includes generating individual materials then importing them into Chief Architect and distributing the catalogs that you download and use. This converts the parametric materials into static images that aren't as flexible as those that are created in the Substance Designer Program.

Much like the Client Viewer and 3D Viewer products that are available for use with Chief Architect, Substance offers a product that allows others to leverage the parametric files to create their own custom materials... without needing to be an expert of the full-fledged program. We would like to invite you to try it out and create your own custom materials from the file we've set up for Tile.

      How does it work?

First of all, a healthy understanding of how materials work inside of Chief Architect is a good starting point, and we just happen to have a primer ready for you here:
      Advanced Materials

You should also be comfortable with controlling materials, as described in this video:
      Creating Custom Materials and Colors

Once you understand how Chief Architect behaves with different properties and maps, you can dig right in and make your own maps using Substance Player (a free download) and these source files we've set up to generate materials.

      Substance Player

      Tile_Builder.sbsar
      Wood Builder Beta.sbsar
      Single Color Fabric.sbsar
      Multi_Color_Fabric.sbsar

After you’ve installed Substance Player, simply load the material type you wish to customize and get to work. To assist, we have a quick video showing how to use Substance Player to get your custom maps into Chief Architect:
      Substance Player

We'd love to hear what you think. Is this useful? Are there other material types you'd like to try with the Substance Player tool? Voice any requests or questions here, or via e-mail to content@chiefarchitect.com .

Chief Architect is not affiliated in any way with the Substance Designer or Substance Player software programs. Chief Architect will not be able to offer any support for the Substance software products or files. Using the program and files is completely voluntary. Substance compatible files are provided simply as a gesture, with no guarantees, extended to give access to more material options for those who are interested.

I am having an issue with the Library Browser where even when the top left Icon and in the view tab icon is show with a check mark to indicate being open but there is no sign of the Library Browser actually popping up on my screen or right sidebar, next to the Project Browser, as I have used it before. Has anyone else had this issue? Am I missing a setting that would hide the Library Browser or does this sound like a glitch/issue?

      Hey all,

Is there a way to control what Chief names each material as it's importing a model as a collada (.dae) file?

At my company, we use Chief to build the base model and then export as a collada file to import into Lumion to render. Lumion's latest version has the ability to automatically replace materials with "glass" or "water" in the name with those kinds of materials when importing, but for some reason Chief will randomly assign names to materials during the collada export process like "mat127-material," regardless of what they are named in the material settings. Other export processes will keep the material names, but those have their own problems in Lumion. The 3DS format, for example, is the best alternative, but it changes the scale of the model.

I can't seem to find anywhere in the preferences to mess with export settings, though. It's nothing that totally breaks our workflow, as it only takes a couple seconds to replace the material, but it would be a nice little quality-of-life feature we could take advantage of if we could get Chief to cooperate.
