Chief X2 and 4k Ultra HD Display

Recommended Posts

I am currently using Chief X2 and still happy with it but need a new laptop.

Will Chief X2 function properly with a 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) laptop display? I am only expecting a 1920 x 1080 output but concerned that it may not display properly. The 4K Monitor seems to be the default option for the higher end Dell XPS 15.6" laptops.

Considering a Dell XPS with an i7 7700HQ Quad Core processor (6M cache), 32GB DDR4-2400MHz, 1TB PCIe solid state drive, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050 with 4 GB GDDR5 and 15.6" 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) display.

Thank you.

I am running Chief on a new iMac with a 5k 5120x2880 display.

It is fantastic with no problems at all.

Can't say about the 4K display functionality and your

hardware setup but you should also consider operating

system requirements. According to this link:

  https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00027/what-operating-systems-does-chief-architect-run-on.html

X2 will only run on Windows XP, Vista and 7. You

may have some issues getting full functionality out

of your 4K display with Windows 7.

If you can afford a new laptop I would strongly suggest upgrading Chief as well even it you only make the jump to X7 that had a lot of new features.

X2 wont be High DPI aware like alot of older Programs which will likely mean the icons and text are very small , Was it X7 or X8 where we got High DPI icons for Chief ?

not sure if this is negated by attaching a 1920 Res. monitor to the laptop for Chief use?

DJP may still have X2 installed , perhaps he will know more....

yep......

X6 -X9 has the option to "Scale Toolbar Icons for High DPI" and X9 also has an manual size adjustment for Button Size.  Not sure for anything before that.

David Potter has X1-X9 on Windows 10 Pro

If you will be using the laptop at the clients I would recommend 17" or larger

or buy an LCD projector

crowding shoulder to shoulder with the clients works but ???

get a larger monitor or tv for home with 4K etc

the clients don't need that in your laptop screen

I agree with upgrading to X9

If you are in business you should stay current

X2 is getting very old

if you ask questions on this forum you may not get the best answers

as the reply might be "not sure how X2..." or "not sure if X2 can do that..."
