I tried it using the out of box residential template, everything looks perfect. Maybe you guys should be using a Mac I like that there's only one material that uses "Blend with Texture" for the color. Makes much more sense than having 6 or so colors to choose from, that usually had to be modified anyway. Vinyl siding called "Double 4" which is two 4" planks per panel is very common here.

Open a 2nd Instance of Chief / Copying between layouts
Chrisb222 replied to bdammeyer's topic in General Q & A
Can this be done on the Mac? -
No, but you could add your support to the request for stacked fractions:
-
You still use copy/paste but "Edit Area (All Floors)" captures more of the model than simple selecting, for editing, moving, deleting, copying, etc.

They did announce it: Foundations The deprecated Fireplace tool has been removed from the Build menu. https://cloud.chiefarchitect.com/1/pdf/documentation/chief-architect-x11-migration-guide.pdf

How do you handle split celing heights in an entry way?
Chrisb222 replied to Max3732's topic in General Q & A
That's how I do it. -
Me too. I have ALDO, Library Browser and two different browsers open on the second. NEED. MORE. MONITORS!

Actually, switching Saved Plan Views using the drop down provides all the functionality of saved plan views, more than just annotation sets.
-
Interesting. That's pretty out there, you're definitely thinking outside the "box" haha!
-
You can also switch Saved Plan Views using its drop down menu which is my preferred method. Just as easy to switch views and only one tab required for plan view. I may also have the layout and several cameras open which leads to a lot of tab clutter if multiple plan views are also open.

Yep. I watched the entire series start to finish, tons of great tips in that build.

In the video series where that image came from they explain how to make that curved roof: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/6043/chic-cottage-building-project-part-10-building-a-story-and-a-half.html?playlist=111

Is there still no way to calculate drywall?
Chrisb222 replied to Michael_Gia's topic in General Q & A
As I said, my ceiling finish and wall definitions already automatically specify the corresponding board types. The only thing I have to manually change is the ceiling finish on the garage ceiling. -

That's what I do now but I still think the program could be modified so an Attic Wall type in Defaults could have all the specs you describe, and ALSO derive it's exterior cladding from the main Exterior wall. -

+1 A drywall man once gave me his sq ft/math formula but it's no better than the method you describe, which was always my method. I use Chief now because I found it to be just as accurate but automatic using my wall definitions/material list. Haha, to each their own. I buy from local wholesalers who stock the house, and they won't take returns. I try to buy short and then have my lumber yard fill in at the end. Doesn't always work, right now I need to store two boards in a house that was just hung. -
Is there still no way to calculate drywall?
Chrisb222 replied to Michael_Gia's topic in General Q & A
I have my materials and material list programmed to return number of sheets required for an entire house, 5/8" 48"x12' for ceilings, 1/2" 54"x12' for house walls, and 1/2" 48"x12' for garage ceiling and walls. I have to add for waste because the program uses square footage calculate the number of sheets, which does not allow for waste. Yes you have to manually change the attic walls which makes me wish for an Attic Wall type in defaults that can be defined with no interior finish. This has not been my experience. In testing how the material list calculates number of sheets, in my tests the program used every scrap to fill in every odd sized space. -
I too wish for stacked fractions, needs re-asked in Suggestions. If not stacked I would at least like to see a dash between the full inch and the fraction. The way it is now is somewhat unclear.

I didn't mean to suggest that anyone stop posting questions, reading questions and answers is a great way for ME to learn so I appreciate the questions. Heck, I posted a question just today, only to figure out my own answer within seconds after posting it. But that was after I exhausted every effort I could think of to figure it out before posting. Guess I should've tried one more time first... For myself, personally, I just find it sticks better when I figure it out myself. As others have said, to each his own...

Preference settings are program, not plan, specific, i.e. they won't carry from user to user. My method of learning has been and continues to be: The help button in each dialog box Google search: "site:chiefarchitect.com my search terms" <- restricts search to only the CA website, including chieftalk If I want to Google ONLY chieftalk: "site:chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com my search terms" <- restricts search to only chieftalk Search tool on the chieftalk forum (difficult to obtain useful results) Reading the Chieftalk Q&A Forum almost daily (GREAT learning tool) Trial and error... and error... and error... and error... and error... and error... Repeat Steps 1 through 6 Finally, I may either abandon whatever I'm trying to do, or reluctantly ask for help in a new thread here

Multiple Room Moldings, One Missing From Interior Walls
Chrisb222 replied to Chrisb222's topic in General Q & A
Thanks. I pulled my hair out for about half an hour then found the answer seconds after posting the thread. I did a thorough search and couldn't find a thread topic on it so thought I would leave it for someone else having that problem. -
Multiple Room Moldings, One Missing From Interior Walls
Chrisb222 replied to Chrisb222's topic in General Q & A
Fixed it, second molding was specified as "Crown Molding." Changed to base molding and it works. Not sure why it would matter, shouldn't crown molding show on interior walls? -
I assigned two moldings to my Current Floor Defaults, but the second one only shows up on exterior walls. I tried deleting the second molding from the default and adding it to the room, same result. Any ideas? moldings.plan
