  1. I have this same issue and usually do the zero RO in window settings and either omit RO from the schedule or enter manually. That would make a great Suggestion.
  2. I've only ever used Macs except for a couple of laptops. Like Ryan said, Macs just work. I've been using them since 1989 and they're tanks. When I see all the threads on here of all the issues PC people have with third party drivers etc it makes me glad I don't have to deal with all that. As far as I know the only feature that ever that didn't work on a Mac is RTRT. And my humble little $700 2014 MacMini with 2) 24" monitors runs X12 just fine, with virtually no lag. I don't think it will handle 13 and up very well, but a new M1 MacMini starts at $700 and a 16GB version with 512 SSD is only $1100. And they're dead quiet.
  3. Select roof plane(s), hit Transform/Replicate tool in lower Edit toolbar, click Move and enter a value in Z field.
  4. That's how most everything works unless a program autosaves. If you don't save before save as, everything in between is not saved. Actually the Mac OS changed this in recent years for native Apple apps, and eliminated Save As. Now the command is "Duplicate" which leaves the source file open and unchanged, and creates and opens a new copy of the file named "So and so File Name Copy", which you can then rename and save in any location. I hate it. Because I'm old.
  5. I stopped annotating in layout long ago. Elevations only. My 2¢
  6. Yes. The texture image needs to be edited in a way so that when it repeats, the left edge butting to the right edge looks right, same for top and bottom. In your picture of the texture, you have a grout line on the left and on the right. They will combine to look like a double line when repeated over the object. You'll want "something" like this: (although your image is skewed and missing some image area that would make it a better texture)
  7. I know. That's not the only reason I haven't switched. Like I said I've already paid for 13 and 14, but I kinda missed the boat on 13, doesn't make sense to build templates for it now with 14 in the pipe. Thanks again
  8. Yep, works great thank you! Yes. And I'm bummed because I'd love to use the new features, some of which I have requested. But when X13 first came out there was uncertainty if it would run on the new Mac M1 architecture (which I do not use yet). That combined with the fact Macs can't take advantage of RTRT caused me to hold off making the jump early in the release.... then I just got too busy to really even think about it. I'm getting ready to move my office and upgrade hardware, but honestly because of rendering not being fully implemented on the Mac I've been considering going with a PC. Then I've been watching the internal rendering error crash thread that PC users are experiencing and it gets confusing. I'm always paid up because I use 3D Model Viewer but at this point I think I'll just wait for X14 to come out instead of updating my templates this late in the year. You probably weren't looking for all that info but... yes I am still on X12
  9. When I specify a "Floor" column in a schedule, the number of the floor is reported i.e. 0, 1, 2. I'd like to instead display "Main" "second" or "lower" etc Right now I'm using Object Information fields but it's kind of a pain and looking for a more automated approach, hopefully a simple setting I'm overlooking. Thanks!
  10. Not sure why you're having trouble. For me vaulted ceiling planes work the same inside and outside. What exactly is the problem?
  11. Many possible causes. Post a sample plan and layout with the problem to get an answer.
  12. No but you eventually get used to it. Drove me crazy for a couple months. It was introduced with some other changes that actually did make things more efficient but I'm so used to the new ways I don't even remember the difference.
  13. Roof moldings can be adjusted. A bit tricky to select, and the layer they're on is locked by default, also they act a little wonky. So it's not often a useful feature, but you can select and edit them.
  14. Got it, yep that worked. Had to fiddle with Edit Wall Layer Intersections to get plan view to look right but it worked. Thanks again.
  15. Yeah that didn't work for me, going from a 6" exterior to a 4" interior threw the exterior plane out, plus I had to manually edit the outer wall shape to fill in above the roof. Ugh.
  16. You can also go into the Line Style tab of the point marker DBX and set the line to None, but you have to do it for each individual marker. If only one needs turned off this can be useful but if you want to turn off a lot of them, use another type of dimensioning method.
  17. I do those all the time and like Joey I take an elevation view and drag the wall down. Drag-tab will allow you to enter an exact move distance. Then you get just the taller wall you want, and not anything else which may be involved when adding a floor. You can also place breaks in the wall to create a step footer if needed:
  18. Thanks Mick. I swore I tried that but I think it was in conjunction with another setting that screwed it all up. I've used that setting before but it was escaping me. One problem with this, though, is the plan view displays the 6" exterior wall and I need it to show the 4" interior wall. Do you know if this is possible? Changing "Pony Wall Display" setting in Plan View Specs to "Lower Wall" shows 4" interior corner to corner:
  19. Wondering why this happens and how to fix it without turning off auto roofs. Interior wall divides two sections of a building with different ceiling heights. I know I can make the outside look right by running the exterior wall through the building, but I want an interior wall there. Attached is a basic X12 file showing the issue which was made from the out-of-box Chief Residential Template, no modifications. Thanks Cheek Wall Issue.plan
  20. Chief is set up with a generic 4'x8' drywall material out of the box. I made different types of drywall materials for use on specialized wall types: 54" 12' for 9'H walls, 48" 12' for 8'H and garage walls, and 4'x12'x5/8" for ceilings (the thickness is set in the room structure but the material has 5/8" in the name so it lists separately from 1/2"). Also have a special interior wall type that has 54" on one side and 48" on the other, for the house-garage common walls, and two standard exterior walls, one with 54" for main floor exterior walls and one with 48" for garage and second floor exterior walls. A generic "drywall" material is useless in the material list, if the plan calls for different types of drywall.
  21. +1 I always update within the layout, never when closing the elevation.... even though for me the time is about the same. Two more great reasons to update within layout, or just hit NO when closing the elevation: 1) CAD and text elements already update in real time automatically, like plan views, so that's a big time saver as you can edit text and CAD in the elevation and close without updating and the change already happened, and 2) many times I changed the model and don't even need to open the elevation, I just need to update the view. Not having to open the elevation in these cases is a big time saver. Example: Changing roof pitch (among myriad other possible examples). Edit: I'm talking strictly about elevation views sent as plot lines here.
  22. Having the insurance and the disclaimer are both good, but I still would not operate without an LLC. And then make sure it's run properly and cannot be pierced.
  23. Select room, click "Make Room Polyline" button that will appear on the lower Edit toolbar. Open Polyline DBX and find area and other info.
  24. No, but wouldn't it be great if we could? Please add your support to this feature request in Suggestions:
