  1. That doesn't happen to me using the Help functions zoom. The text wraps.
  2. So I checked the documentation on QT Assistant- thanks Eric Option in View to Zoom in changes the size of the information window it appears that once zoomed in the size holds when closed and reopened, also holds after closing Chief and reopening. Edit/ Preferences only changes the size of the font in the bookmark/contents panel.
  3. I checked into this myself since I hit F1 so often. Chief help is not a CFM file so some of those solutions don't work. Can change the entire system to 125% but that isn't so good. I downloaded Advanced System Font Changer. Haven't given it a go yet though, bit much going on for that (in the course of things I did find a way to load the Group Policy Editor onto my Spectre which has Win Home-hope that works, will save me the cost of an upgrade
  4. Sorry, I have that license on support until April it's already been upgraded to X10 beta and will get the upgrade on final release (February 14th or so) . Since it's been upgraded I no longer can sell it as X9 AFAIK. In any case there's no reason for me to drop the price at this time.
  5. Could of things I found https://geekycoder.wordpress.com/2010/01/12/solutions-to-enlarge-the-text-size-of-chm-without-tears/ https://www.ghacks.net/2017/04/12/system-font-changer-restore-font-changing-in-windows-10-creators-update/ https://www.ghacks.net/2017/04/12/system-font-changer-restore-font-changing-in-windows-10-creators-update/ FWIW I use a download of the PDF and haven't noticed an issue with readability
  6. I can't say for sure but I think that the threads in question might have been reported by other users to the moderators, I know someone asked "where are the moderators when you need them". FWIW the poster started 4 or so threads with lengthy rants and at one point posted to my personal profile NOT a PM just to my profile. I didn't appreciate that. If you want to question something I posted why not in the public forum where it was posted to begin with. Sneaky crap.
  7. You don't even have to set it up as a hotspot. I can deactivate and activate right on my phone. If for some reason I was somewhere that the phone did not have a signal -a clients house, get access on their connection, middle of nowhere with no access-find the nearest McDonalds, Panera, Starbucks, rest area... Of course all of that is assuming you forgot to change the activation before you left. Forgot to bring your dongle with you though? SOL.
  8. One other thing I started doing in 9. I keep one plan template with the OOB anno sets. To keep the anno set list more manageable I split them up, one for new construction, one for remodel. Every now and then I've needed some adjustments. When I do that I export the sets and can import them into the template with the OOB set. Just less confusing for me.
  9. I've been making new templates each version since X7. Through versions I've had no issues importing Annosets, Layer Sets, Hotkeys. I keep walls in the library and don't mess much. At first I let 10 migrate everything but reverted at some point- to an OOB as I was not happy with the toolbar migration so am going to redo those. Only started on the X10 templates before work got in the way. Anno sets, layer sets, hotkeys and macros came in ok (some macros renamed themselves-I don't have as many as some of you use though- Joe and Michael can answer issues there best). I'd already had to make adjustments for those sub categories I'd added to the item list with X9 as I was able to substitute OIP field for those. The new expanded OIP options may affect that. I'd already taken to keeping fewer plan templates and importing defaults from other plans as need. Have never had a problem with that, just wish that more of the defaults could be imported. The few cases where I tried importing defaults into 10 were ok but haven't checked all that completely yet. (changes to windows and floors could matter)
  10. Just got updates from HP for the Spectre, included a BIOS and newer Video driver. Still sluggish opening and new views, a bit better with new views. Get the same pixelization in Standard View unitl I checked edge smoothing when idle and turned off bloom. PBR is unusable now though. I'm guessing that the updates likely included the Intel fix for the CPU that is running around. I'd prevented Windows from updating till that gets fixed but wanted to see how the video driver acted. I won't be allowing the update on the Sager until they have that straightened out. Note I just saw that the biggest hit on the new Intel update is on single core performance. That may be complicating what is going on with 10, Will likely be only using 10 on the Sager where it is fine, maybe a tad slower. And stick to 9 on here. Have one drafting client that I was going to encourage to go to 10 but will wait until all is better (thankfully all the work is currently in 9, had just started setting up templates for them in 10)
  11. Yeah that is a pain. In fairness I've pulled a string somewhere in a design that created havoc elsewhere that I didn't notice at first. While I'm sure that programming is easier (judging from all the folks working with Ruby then again this is BETA.
  12. Turning of RCS helps only slightly and a pain to find em all. (dunno how I got logged in as other earlier, sleepy I guess)
  13. See notes here getting on bus to airport now
  14. Can't look at plan right now, here's what I've found - it's different.... Less than 100% ambient occlusion, play with adjusting camera exposure, always use a lighting set (defaults to not doing that), avoid generated sky, never us generated sky with sun follows camera, helps to adjust the sun manually, can help to alter light lumens up drop off down and increase spread, one or two added lights that are directional with wide spread can be useful (play with height). Once you get a few that work cameras and lights can be refused and copied.
  15. Mine are physically based render, my ray traces aren't that good.
  16. I"ve never been a big rendering guy, tried a bit more this year as need arose but I always struggle with RTs. I approached these as if nothing I knew applied but that like RTs need to be "worked" a little and I 'd have to find out what did what. While there are still things that need tweaking the results are better than I normally can produce, faster, easier. I'm not going back. IN Orlando now and only have the Spectre with me so haven't run stuff through latest update but here's some of what I've been able to do.
  17. There are a number of videos in the knowledge base , then there is the Reference Manual and the Tutorial and a good section in the new Chief Tutorial PDF found at Product Documentation Just a note- Once a cabinet is placed in the user library you don't have access to change anything but the name until it is placed in a plan. Because of that it's useful to change whatever needs be prior to saving to the library. Those things that should to follow defaults ahead of time. That would be door, drawer style, side panels, and materials. Layer (I place some on a second cabinet layer), fill if not standard Label if not standard (as in the case of a refrigerator cabinet- the automatic label is unlikely to match what you use day to day)
  18. While I've set the keyboards I use all the time to left side I also use a wireless number pad so never changed that one.
  19. Keyboard on mine is (-) to zoom in (/) to zoom out, think those are default. Arrow keys work for moving.
  20. Alternate edit behavior, concentric. Set jump distance in preferences. Or transform replicate, copy move if along the axis. Or multiple copy
  21. This looks good in standard view, lousy in vector unless you turn off the material region layer so might be wise to place on it's own layer, for plan the block needs some work (I didn't bother). Placed an outlet, 3D molding line around it 5/8" x 1/16", convert to symbol, change y origin. Placed in wall, placed material region to match set to cut into wall, Got rid of all but one layer of the material region, set to 5/8" as opening no material. Recessed outlet.calibz
  22. Ditto build #2. FWIW I had a couple of Dell Precisions with Quadro cards when I first switched to Chief, switched to GTX and it's been better. As to your Surface issues- 2gb on the GPU is minimum and that most likely has Optimus which is a hassle with multiple monitors since it some will run on the Intel card instead of the GPU. My previous machine could have issues with other monitors depending on which ports I was using. I run the Saber in my Sig with the main screen, a 24", a 42" TV, and a 15" DisplayLink all at 1920 with no problem. From what I can tell it handles things comparable to many of the machines folks list here in their signatures- some better some worse, and it's a bit dated. You may want to look over some of the recent Ray Trace threads-Graham has done a bit of research and indicates that single core performance for RT's matters even though RT will use multiple cores. Chief itself OTOH doesn't gain much from extra cores AFAIK. There are a couple of folks on here with Xeon.s I know mrscott runs a Xeon machine for tracing but he just got an 8700k with a 1080, could likely give you a comparison. If I were getting a machine today and couldn't wait I'd talk to tech about what X10 will be happiest with, the new rendering engine they are previewing on youtube is different.
