I'm missing something. I couldn't even remember what fills I use so had to check. I do roughs/massing with countertops on the default cabinet for clarity of overhang. After that is settled I use custom tops exclusively so that the cabinet height reads correctly in the schedule. Most often I'm building them from the icon, not converting them. Looks like I have the same fill for cabinets and counters when they start as default, and no fill for the ones I usually build. Hasn't been a problem. Attached screenshot-??

Not for nothing but I use a single cabinet for massing- one corner cabinet stretched, one along the wall, one for the island, suppress labels. The big advantage is that then the countertop overhangs are correct so that work aisle dimension are also correct. NKBA suggested minimum is 42" (yours are a tad less before overhangs) I'm always getting plans from architects that don't account for counter overhang. There are times that losing 3" to two counters is an issue giving the client what they want.

I took the Riverstone sample plan (88mb) and layout (15mb) zoom and pan are fluid and fine. Add one plan view from the Minnehaha file and that is jerky in both. Not sure this is hardware. Fixing the balcony, changing the grid snap size, moved model to origin, all did nothing. Also checked for duplicates (my assistant gets those a lot using copy and paste in place), none. I do remodels the way Perry except recently started to also save a copy of the as built as a template. Find it easier send multiple versions to the layout that way without having one already sent change it's reference if both are open when doing a save as.

I'd agree it might be easier live but you do get a preview in the dbx. I make benches from base cabinets- yes you have to add the dividers but have more control over them (would love to have a "divider option") but you have control over the face (toe, panel, flush, baseboard..) and can then show the "lid" partly open if you make it separately. edited-alwys forget to click attach

Changing the deck did not help. I opened a fairly large layout file, added some to it, was all fine until I sent a view from your plan. I think the problem may be in the plan.

Still not sure but I should mention that we have less trouble on the Dell listed here (with lesser quadro than you have)

Lagging here too. Opening the plan directly is fine BUT clicking a view in layout opens plan with nothing showing,can't figure it out.

Some symbols, such as cabinets, walls, doors-don't rotate. I can't see why I'd want to.

place in plan, "open symbol" , 3D tab check Y axis-set to 90 degrees, rotate-go to 2D block and generate block- add to user library

Guess I don't understand. Using the alt, can draw one with escape or more lines without, pan and zoom with middle mouse button without losing connection, toggle snaps with a click or keyboard, line doesn't stop until I click a second time. Appears to work same as TurboCad (haven't used ACAD) except I see the line instead of just the snap point. What am I missing?

Read it again- can do exactly everything you ask for.

Try using the "alt" behavior, see reference manual pg 1061. I'll send a bill )) It's also possible to use the keyboard, or temporary points.

Thanks Michael-that gave me an idea which worked. The problem: I only use the blocks so that I can have it show up in the cabinet schedule. I add a sub category for use in the schedule to list modifications, accessories, and another for treatment of sides. To do that I have to access the components list for an item. If I block psolids I have no access to a "component list" when they are in the plan. Oddly I can open the component list of blocked Plines in the library. (Getting live,accurate cabinet schedules to suit my needs has been tedious almost every step and may be a fools errand) I was avoiding making symbols out of these since these shapes really can't be properly altered as symbols, AND I'd still have to block them to get them into the schedule. But after your suggestion I remembered that I've managed to make this work with millwork symbols so I tried. Made it into a millwork symbol, I can access the component list in plan after blocking I can get them into the cabinet schedule. The symbols still aren't suitable for altering but I'll live with that, I'll just keep some blocked copies around the plan (and not in the schedule) in case I need to alter them so I can make a new symbol if I have to. So thanks.

I often need to make an Architectural Block out of things to get them into the cabinet schedule. Then I need to edit the components, add a sub category and type something in there. Say the block is made of psolids. In that case I can't open the components dialog- but IF I add it to the library, I had already specified treat as one object, include in cabinet schedule I can open the components while it is in the library. Is it at all possible to open the components while it is in the plan??

Another clipboard manager I use is Clipmate from Thornsoft.com. More money but still cheap, a bit more robust, worth a look.

I can't help with the fill. For desktop, countertop items etc -I keep those on dedicated layers (accessory counter,...) so I can control them with layer sets. Since the library doesn't remember the layer I keep those things in a "warehouse" plan and copy paste from there.

Inserted points for me too, but to the drawer box, maybe my snap distance. I still don't want points but a much easier and safer way for me to get detail from view on overlay. Thanks

Nice Michael-doesn't appear to work well for inset. To dimension that did you cad or lines? at least I still couldn't get dims on the rails.

For dimensioning cabinet faces the only options are points, lines, or cad detail (premier only). I just don't like how points behave, every now and then end up with points after editing something so dimensions don't reflect what's going on. I find it easier to notice something was edited with lines than with points. None are live so depends on the situation. If I have fussy face editing to do I use lines and make them longer than the cabinet. When it's time to send in an order I use detail from view..pick your poison.

Either make a CAD detail Or add a line open it, lock start I was mistaken, lock length/angle then set Y to zero (had gotten that from Scott Hall some time ago) Then using transform from view replicate offset copies to match the drawer height Your dimensions will now snap to the lines.

Just went through this-no change in computer or location,was using CA yesterday afternoon. No go this am,reboot, still nada, tried again-was listed as running in task manager processes- finally loaded.

Glad it's working out for you, didn't save as much time as you think. Are those shadows on the 3 drawer base on the right? if so something is amiss.

Yes Scott, I got nowhere with the eaves, only made progress when I changed the pitch to an angle on the side arcs. Don't have any vid capture so can't- Put photo into Bluebeam PDF-drew in circles and sized until they looked about right. Added lines so I could measure distances and convert arc sizes to full scale. Calibrated the measure tool in Bluebeam to match the width I pulled off the Chief elevation then measured as needed, worked out the radius of the arcs based on scale. In Chief changed the arcs to match radius I pulled from the pdf. Changed the width of the center arc to match the pdf (selected line-lock center,change length for both front and back. Same for the side arcs. Fooled with the pitch. At first I hit upon 45 degrees and stopped. Later I realized I could change the pitch so measured the angle of the chord of the arc in the PDF and used that as a starting point. Moved things up and down with transform replicate till things matched. (they jumped around every time I changed something -remember I don't know how to do rooves:) Noodged top arc radius and width, noodge up and down...like that. Finally shot a cad detail from an elevation in CA- export as picture- placed that in the pdf file. Increased transparency and sized till it looked close just to check it all.
